This will be the place to post Duck Hunt footage from Smash 4. Everyone is more than welcome to post their own videos for critiques or any findings they may have uncovered. Additionally, anyone is free to offer critiques provided it's respectful and constructive.

When posting videos, DO NOT DO AS AN EMBEDDED VIDEO. This makes the thread cleaner and reduces the amount of lag some users may have when attempting to browse this thread.

With that said, feel free to post your videos.

So since I've been putting a lot of effort into my Pac-Man play, I thought I'd try to put some more effort into my Duck Hunt just so that I have another character to fall back on. So I figured I'd share a game I had with a friend of mine, who was playing as Wii Fit Trainer, a few days ago and hopefully get a few tips on it.

http://youtu.be/xpkLQv_SJbM VS. :4wiifit:

I was already made aware of the "too much rolling" problem by several people. I'm REALLY bad at it and it's a bad habit that I'm trying to work on and fix the best I can.

Yeah I really need help with playing as this character >_<. I only played him G1, but I'm sure there are a lot of things I was doing wrong in that game. Tips would be LOVELY!!

I play games 2 & 3 w/ DHD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDZXmA44QOs I'd love some tips, I feel like I wasn't playing nearly as well as game 2.
The main thing I'd say is that if you see someone airdodge into you, it would probably be better to use dtilt or grab instead of fsmash, because the start up on fsmash is longer and they can still be knocked out of the fsmash before the final hit. Everything else showed that your DHD is pretty sweet! :D

Edit: Actually, I'm watching the last game now, and I noticed that this game specifically you're relying a lot on your projectiles (it seems like more than you were last game), and the Captain Falcon started adapting to them. There were a few times where you would clay pidgeon when Captain Falcon was right above you, or Can when he's right next to you, and Falcon would just grab you for it consistently. It may be better to either run away and re-set up your positioning or to grab/jab him as he falls into the ground. I could be wrong though.

You also weren't using your aerial game nearly as much last game as you were the second game, and that was part of what put you ahead of the Falcon imo.

I watched your games, & I really love your movement around the stage. I don't see you use Down-B enough to bait into grabs/attacks/ect...enough. I also think you could utilize more jab OOS, I saw the MK land behind you a couple times w/ dash attack & I think Turn-around Jab OOS would punish that. I think you can utilize the can more even if it's just for pressure/stage control. I do like that you seem careful about the placement of your projectiles & not spam them mindlessly, but I think you need to abuse them a lot more. Other than that, I think your DHD can be really good, just need to lab him more & learn how to spam but also play/mix-it-up/ect...

Thanks for the tips though, I wasn't even thinking of the dtilt/grab thing, I will work on that. And yeah game 3, I kinda played bad lol, I played like 80% my best 2nd game then like 50% 3rd game lol. I lost focus somehow and DHD takes A LOT of mental effort in a tournament setting. I forgot my options and didn't keep up the camping game w/ Cans.

Some games I had on For Glory, lookin' to improve my Duck Hunt again. I would get tournament matches or local play if I could, but I'm stuck with Lousy FG.
I don't know how many times I've mentioned it now, but SmashLadder.com is the place for the BEST practice, especially considering (imo) FD is a counterpick, not really neutral.

I played against Will for a few hours earlier. I went mostly Lucario before switching to Duck Hunt and then messing around with whoever. He streamed it here, and Duck Hunt starts at 4:15:20 until 4:31:50. I only ever manage to beat his Ganondorf but I made him hate every match he won :p

Hints/tips/tricks/secrets appreciated!

Here are some of my matches from the other night. You can switch it to 1080p if it's too choppy (I recorded from my phone at the gamepad since no capture card yet lol).

Still learning different tactics and how to attack certain characters, but it doesn't help with the lag delay online. Just don't play enough really good players offline where it runs smoother.

Got a few matches with me playing Duck Hunt Duo, but don't have a capture card so I had to record the replays I saved

I'd only to point out that all 3 of your opponents in those videos weren't very good with their respective characters and you 2 stocked 2/3 of them while taking fairly low damage. I'm assuming you uploaded these videos so you could get advice on how to improve, correct? If that is your intent, may I suggest that you should probably get replays of better opponents next time and with matches you lose too, and not just ones where you win? Its just that 2-stocking a noticeably worse player doesn't really say a lot about your ability to adapt when the going gets rough or highlight weaknesses you are suffering from the most, you didn't seem to be challenged that much when your opponents barely made a scratch on you. Although I will admit, you made plenty of mistakes that could've gotten you bodied in the way you were playing (no offense), if your opponents were better players and capitalized on your mistakes. I would go into detail and be more specific with said mistakes, but I'll come back later and do that, typing on my phone is too tedious. .

Also, sorry for double post, but can somebody help me out with my own videos I posted earlier? Been there since Christmas and I still haven't gotten the advice I wanted. Luckily where I am, the sun is rising right now and I'm getting my homework done, so I'll probably get new videos on SmashLadder by this afternoon.

Your first match ditto, I felt as if you could have set up cans much more often. In one part during the opponents second stock, you just sat there after an up-air, waiting for your opponent to get closer enough to go for another up air. Setting up a can in the center of the stage gives you many more options, as well as a way to get a bit more damage off a throw. We'll both also need to practice wall jumping with doggy, recovering so low with doggy is dangerous, since you can easy be daired from the slow-ish speed.

Second ditto was very nice, especially that early dair. Just try not to airdodge so close to the ground, the ending lag is very easy to punish with a grab or tilt. Also, don't be too predictable with your Fair approaches, you were doing it quite often.

With Peach, your first stock seemed pretty shakey, but you adapted nicely in the end. With her avoiding so many of your up-air, next time you should try mixing in a Nair, since it lasts a long time and will throw her off. She could kinda tell when most of tose up-airs were coming.

With DeDeDe, keep this rule of thumb: CAN ALWAYS OUT ALWAYS. Can in mid-air almost always hits gordos back, and at a ridiculous speed. They are a direct counter to the gordos. Not to mention his huge hurtbox, and preventing him from using swallow around a can.

Don't hurt me for the double post, but I forgot I had a vid to share as well

http://youtu.be/qCHPri8sxRI Me getting beat hard with a Mega-Man (@noe3). If you'd like to watch me be destroyed.
That's interesting.

The best Mega Mans i've played whether I was using Wario or DHD, were projectile spammrs. Constantly adding pressure with projectiles (something I do with DHD) except Mega Man's projectiles are faster in the air. Playing an up close Mega Man is so much more preferable. He's hard to KO because he's heavy and has decent recovery.

Got a few more matches:

I wasn't really feeling my main Lucario for this MU so I went the dog. For the most part I think I did pretty good (excepting the second match). Couldn't quite clutch it out though :/

I love watching this one. I was on top of my game.

First match only. My DHD has done better against this ROB than Lucario, but only in friendlies. They both kind of **** the bed in tournament :(

I like it, but against Sheik you are not using your gunmen enough. Also, I don't see you utilize the trick shot can on second attempt (hitting the can with your paw or duck to make it re-direct). You leave the can laying there for the most part but it's a nice tactic to hit the can and make it fly to throw your opponent off. I used to be the same way with the can, but now I've found that against really good players if I'm scrambling around playing keep away, that if the can is just sitting there more often than not I end up getting hit by it and exploding on me.

My tournament set earlier today on Twitch Stream, tons of people were watching. My Duck Hunt games start at 3:52 against this really good :4luigi: named Swoops. Normally, I'd have gone on the offense and try to pressure him aggressively with projectiles to overwhelm him with pressure, exploit openings, and force reactions out of him. But knowing how Luigi is super scary up close but has a lot of trouble dealing with projectiles, I forced myself to stay on the defensive and play lame for this matchup.

http://www.twitch.tv/gamingzoneaz/b/609489761

Didn't use Duck Hunt for the rest of the tourney, but this was all in all a great set, and I think it's only going to get better by next time. Any and all advice is most welcome.

So I entered my first Wii U tournament a little bit ago. Most of North Carolina's best players were there and I actually ended up in a tie for first (the tournament ran on way too long, so me and the other guy in Winner's Finals ended up splitting).

I played only Duck Hunt and some of the matches were actually recorded.

Any tips are appreciated.

First time using Duck Hunt in For Glory, vs. Ness. He was actually a decent player, but I kept putting out Gunmen to predict/block his PK attacks so he eventually goes only A-button attacks (and I don't think he knew the matchup). Just looking for some advice, also critique on my fundamentals.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8tG5owCzys

Also of note on the killing blow: so I put out the can to edge guard him. But instead what happens: it bounces off his head, goes underneath him, meets the PKT and cancels it out, leaving Ness to fall to his doom. Don't know why it didn't explode, but that was one of the best accidental kills I've ever gotten.

Duck Hunt vs Jigglypuff match with commentary that I hosted. What do you think these two players could have done better?

Just this one for now.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hgj4ap-SWlE

Keep in mind that this match is from shortly after the release of the game. They'll get better as time goes on. ^_^

Below is selfless self-promotion:
I also do other things on my channel as it is something of a job for myself. I upload Let's Plays, Reviews, and the occasional Guide. Having partnered with Maker Studios, I'm drawing revenue for each view so Likes and Subscriptions are very much appreciated. With that being said, Smash Bros. is going to be a focal point for my channel considering that it was once a huge part of my life, and to an extent it still is. And since my main character is Duck Hunt... Well that's my excuse for promoting in this thread. =P

As mentioned above, my channel updates with new Smash matches weekly and a handful of them are with my main Duck Hunt. That being said, I figured this deserved posting anyway.

ChuDat (Zelda) vs. Undr (Duck Hunt) - WiFi Match
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYB7kp6vq8k&list=UUf5ozwQLm06i2V_eP5oWQyw

Again it's WiFi so it isn't the greatest match in the world. Also, see description for info on the odd method of commentating.

Finally, be sure to check his Livestream. I'd suspect most if not all Smashers know who ChuDat is, so make sure to search him up on Twitch.

Watching, and loled a little that the commentators are shocked in the beginning that the Dogs are playing aggressively XD

It was a good set. Still, Smash is the only competitive game I'm aware of that the commentators aren't learned on the game. It's really irritating.

There's my video of me playing duck hunt. To be honest I played a lot better buffering my moves playing online, but when I played offline I felt weird autocanceling my aerials so I don't think I played as well as I do online. I'd love for you guys to critique meme!

You're missing free percent from a forward throw at low percents. It almost always leads into either a dash attack or forward air (usually dash attack when you get a grab at 0, which you did a few times). I'm not sure if dthrow is the same because I always go for fthrow, but try to add that in to your play for those free percent. Learn what you can get out of your throws fully before just throwing them away and sending out projectiles.

As an example, there were times where you would forward throw Falcon and then run away and throw out your can. You could have accomplished the same thing if you would have added a tipper forward air after your throw, fast falled, and then retreated. Not only do you still have your can out, but you got an extra 7-10%.

Also, don't be afraid to throw out your sea of projectiles at Captain Falcon. You were going for a lot of grabs, but if Captain Falcon catches onto that, he can throw out his jab and ruin your life because no grab armor and his jab is dumb. Gotta mix your game up a little bit, especially considering that Duck Hunt has an amazing forward air.

Don't be afraid to use up-air at lower percent. Considering how many projectiles we throw out, it will become unstale before you get to kill percents anyways.

Your can game is really smart. #takingnotes

Lol I remember the TLOC commentary only trying to figure your tag XD LordCatGod is pretty damn good.

Those cans were on point! The gunmen can lead to more grabs, so don't be scred to toss one out and try for it, they help cover more options. If they hop. You get a free fair.

Not much to critique, it was a different, super aggro doggy, but it works! It'd be easier to critique a match where you have trouble.

I usually throw out a lot of projectiles, but when the person starts rolling I just hate trying to catch them in my projectile because they usually roll past it which annoys me. Also before I got to the tourney I was still used to online lag so when I played offline, it felt so weird and everything was moving a lot faster. Anyways thanks for your tips guys, I'll try to apply them next time I'm there!

#2 Went to Shockwave 16 today and tried to go duck hunt against a Bowser, but it didn't turn out well. http://www.twitch.tv/tourneylocator/v/3740190 starts at 1:44:37. The rest of the set I played villager. Please critique my video please!

so I went to a tournament yesterday, and actually won three matches before getting smoked by a Villager and a damn good Mario. I wasn't expecting there to be recordings of my play, however.

Here's my first round against a Palutena. Tell me where I was blowing stuff, although I know you guy'sll get a lot more info when you see my losses to the aforementioned players.
