I loved Custom Moves in Smash 4, but I feel like they were lacking, so I came up with an idea to implement them better: clones!
Yes, you heard me right. Clones. Not of characters, but of moves. Kind of like in the Pokémon games where every Pokémon gets access to some of the moves that are available to other Pokémon.
For example, let's say you want Link to use magic like Zelda. Just give him Zelda's Side B as a Custom Move option! As long as the move makes logical sense on a character, the sky's the limit!

With that in mind, I want YOU, the SmashBoards community to help me make an ultimate list of all characters with complete custom movesets. But there are a few rules:

1. Limit custom moves to NINE per special. The reason for this is so one digit can represent a move. For example, a Mario moveset could be 3729, like in Smash 4, but with nine options instead of three.

2. The first three moves must be variants of the original, like it was in Smash 4, and if the character WAS in Smash 4, the first three moves must be what they were in that game.

3. If a character had a special move from an older game removed, like Mario's tornado Down-B, they must have it as a Custom Move. This does not apply to A moves.

4. The moves must be clones of already existing moves. No "cool new ideas". They can be other special moves, normal moves, Smash moves, moves from previous Smash games, Pokémon moves, items, Assist Trophy moves, etc. As long as it exists in Smash.

5. Specific stats can vary such as damage, knockback, startup lag, endlag, and angle it launches, but nothing extremely complicated.

6. Elemental attributes are ok. Flaming, freezing, poison, wind, electricity, stun, etc.

7. A move can start as a clone as one, but end as another. For example, the move starts like Ganondorf's Warlock punch, but ends with Palutena's Explosive Flame where Ganondorf's fist is.

8. Though we won't be too hard on balance, as balance patches exist to buff or nerf moves, don't do anything absurdly and obviously broken like "A Fox laser that when it hits activates Jigglypuff's Rest."

9. The move must make at least SOME sense on the character. I don't exactly see Ganondorf using Joker's gun or Pikachu doing a Wario Fart.

10. Just for legal reasons, I need to let you know that on the off chance this ever gets to Sakurai's eyes, we voluntarily agree to allow our ideas in this thread to be used in his games.
By posting ideas to this thread, you agree to have them implemented without credit or compensation.
We post here with the intention that they DO get noticed and make it to Ultimate or future Smash Bros title.

I've been told many, many times by you to bump this thread, and...I'm so confused. Like, I would just bring up whatever Custom Moves Marth/Lucina had in Smash 4, and that's about it.

I'll just explain my stance. I took to Reddit and asked if they are in favor of them being brought back, and it was quite mixed. Some wanted them back only for specific characters, while others believed them to be too unbalanced. If you were to ask me, I'd say that no, I'm fine with how the game is, with or without custom moves. Everyone is fine the way they are, and I wouldn't change that. Excuse my competitive player bias, but I'm not in favor of custom moves being brought back. If any, there should be a way to implement them competitively as well such that it would be fun, but sadly, they take some time to set up, which is a major hassle to tournament organizers.

I understand your passion for this project, though I'm not fully supportive of it. And besides, I don't think the rest of the community is in favor of it; hell, if they were, this would've been much, much longer. But sad to say, only a couple seem to be interested.

Yo, this is a pretty dope idea. I was one of the few people that actually liked the customs in Smash. Though I only really want the customs already present in Smash 4 to return alongside new ones for each returning character with some rebalancing, a less idiotic unlock condition (or just having them available from the start), and maybe a few replacements for some characters. I generally liked slight tweaks more than changing outright. But I never thought of "cloning speicals" as you put it, and I really like the idea. Compared to making new moves from scratch, it's much simpler and still works to add an alternative and potentially game-changing twist to a character's playstyle. While I doubt this will ever happen for Ultimate, maybe a future game could do something similar as a hook, especially if there are severe roster cuts like there probably will be. At the very least, it seems like it'd be comparatively pretty easy to mod in once the modding scene fully evolves. I might come up with a handful of speicals for a few characters later.
