Okay. There's been talk going around, and I thought I'd confirm - MLG_JV was kind enough to set us up with a private board for the discussion of Brawl+. We felt this board was necessary, given the huge range of options that are available with softmodded Brawl codes - without some form of authority, it will be hard for everyone to agree on what to do. As such, the Brawlplusery contains many of the key competitive players who have shown an interest in the Brawl+ project, all eagerly bickering about how to best improve the game. Out of courtesy I won't mention them by name, but I'm sure if they want to they will present themselves.

I'd like to mention that we're trying to keep a keen eye for people who would contribute to the board - as it is membership is extremely exclusive, so I wouldn't feel disheartened if we haven't talked to you. As such there is no 'application' process, but if we see you posting in an informed, competitive (and preferably not inflammatory) manner, I'm sure we'll pick up on you eventually. We are still actively discussing who to invite - specifically people who have experience with characters we are less knowledgeable about.

Since it's creation we've made a lot of progress on creating a more standardised codeset which we believe most of you will enjoy. The production of character specific codes allows us to make every character feel truly natural and unique - taking away Brawl's floatiness for characters like Fox, while maintaining the 'bubbly' feeling that characters like King Dedede and Jigglypuff deserve.

Of course - we'd like everyone's opinion on this codeset. While we are trying to produce the most competitive set available, this is still a community project. Everyone's opinion should be considered, and will be provided that they can present their points in a structured, comprehensible manner. If you have any comments on how you think we could improve our current set, then either post it here, or send it in a PM to myself, and I'll make sure that it is given the attention it deserves.

I'd like to request that this thread remain devoid of discussion about the validity of Brawl+ as a project, or fill up with requests as to codes you think should be produced - especially if they are not of a truly competitive nature. There are already threads which handle these subjects, and these topics should be taken there. Rather, it'd be nice to know what people think of the current modifications in effect, and how they could best be tweaked to make every character natural, enjoyable and balanced.

Thanks to everyone involved in the Brawl+ project - here's the first codeset produced by the Brawlplusery. I hope you enjoy it!

For the character specific codes, can a list be made that tells us exactly what specific changes are made to each character? I think thats really important for us to know.

Thanks though, its exciting to see how far Brawl + has come.

What are the values for the jump speed, Dash speed, and FF speed and where are they located? Do you want me to host this on my thread?

is it me or does it feel heavier than melee? I don't remember Falcon in melee falling this fast on his own.

some codes are giving trouble (shieldstun mostly) so don't expect a PAL set for another 48 hours or so

Haven't been able to update my codeset yet but I look forward to checking this out!
I would like to see the values on hitstun, dash speed, jump speed and etc. here and I'm sure a lot of others will come here and want to see it too.

Mario:

I personally believe that since Mario's biggest asset is his ability to juggle we should try to give him a good jump (I know it's unstable atm) and Fast Fall speed (around 1.25) and since his recovery sucks you can just leave any part of his gravity to normal.

Falcon:

He feels a little too heavy, heavier than melee. I can't do Bair>uair in a full hop and he just feels heavy. I think he doesn't need to be that different from Vb in gravity just a shorter short hop like .9

Ike:

I can barely ledge hop aerials with him if its even possible
Can't "just" ledge hop like how ganon was

Falco:

I find it really hard to punish off the stage without killing myself using the Nair and Fair

Edit for Beta2:

This ****'s the mother****ing ****. I've already sent my constructive criticism to shanus.

Edit 2:

You may not be able to tell from the censoring, but that means it's really awesome.

After playing MuBa's codeset and enjoying it, this feels like molasses. Is the dashspeed at 1.0 or is it buried in the code somewhere I don't see? o_O

SH on some characters feel higher than necessary, and gravities feel lower than they could go. I guess that's just the MuBa in me. I will post in depth responses after a more thorough test.

It seems very balanced, just... slow. I don't mean to come off as ungrateful, though, I'm very thankful for the work you've all put into it. I will do my best to give this new game pace a chance.
Oddly enough, it feels slower than my codeset as well...o_O

I feel the air game is limited but I'll test some more

I think that other than spacies (which feel great!) most characters have less gravity than in previous code sets. Also, I suspect that Dash Speed is at 1.0. Which is strange since I thought everyone agreed that at least 1.15 was semi-standard. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Oddly enough, it feels slower than my codeset as well...o_O
I think it's because it's missing a faster Dash Speed and Jump Speed.

Also, I think Wolf should have a faster fastfall, he IS a spacie and spacies have always had good FFs. Falcon needs a smaller SH height, .9 would suffice, change Upwards Grav JUST A LITTLE so he doesn't feel as heavy.

DK feels good, Diddy Kong feels good, Sonic feels pretty okay (I don't play him though, I just tried him out), Wario feels good, Fox felt perfect, and CF felt a little too heavy but maybe that's 'cause I was playing against CPUs. He FEELS okay, but, nothing that great. Maybe I need to get used to the changes (that's probably the case, as that's how it usually is with Melee).

So these are the character individual gravities/tweaks/etc. that you guys have been talking about? Great looks exciting. I'll get to testing this right away. I'll come back and edit my post after tests most likely.

Actually, thinking about it, I think it's because we're no longer using 1.2 down grav universally so everybody doesn't fall at the same rate anymore. We now have three or four different types of falling gravity for each character so, it FEELS slower because the 1.2 or 1.15 down grav is no longer shared by everyone.

Also, when I said Wolf needed a faster fastfall, I meant only a slight increase so his Dair is more useful on stage.

I think the better approach for Falcon would be this: .9 SH and a faster fastfall but, not too fast with some good downwards gravity and very slight increase in Up grav. He feels like a heavyweight champion ready to play basketball.

I agree! I also like doing double aerials in a full hop. Im pretty sure he could do this in melee...

I don't know if I'm the only one here, but I'm completely loving this codeset.
CF is sexy beyond imagining.

Falcon - fall too fast
Dash speed - need 1.15 at least
And I would either do the MuBa thing and have 100% autocanceling and 30% hitlag, or keep it at 50% and bring up the hitstun to .49

I will insist that higher hitstun balances the game more.

I have never been so unhappy with a Brawl+ codeset since it was only no tripping and melee airdodge. I think some of these character specific jump and grav changes are very poor and mess up a lot of the characters. Beyond that I am very sad to see No pokemon swap on death getting into the game.

I'll keep playing it more and find more specific stuff but after my first little test of it I don't like it.

edit: After playing it for awhile I like it much better. At first test it feels very odd and different from the other releases but after a little while I got used to it and like it much more. It still needs a lot of work but thanks for the release.

Glad we all agree that falcon is way too heavy. I understand where you are coming from Giza. Why does it feel like the gravity is higher than melee? I remember a full hop in melee took some time to get back down but here its really fast. I think melee is floatier than people think, its just that other aspects made it not feel as floaty

Actually, I like this codeset much more than Kupo's, Mookie's, and especially MuBa's. It is a definite improvement.

However, I like my own custom codeset more, so I will return to it.

I personally think a lot of the new changes just take some time getting used to. We're all mostly used to everybody falling at the same rate in B+ so naturally, our muscle instincts are trying to go faster than we should be with the new codeset. Kinda like how on the first day vB released everybody was trying to go SUPAHHHH FAASSSST and **** because of having played Melee for 7 years.

We may need a faster dash speed than 1.15 now looking at the character specific changes. Maybe even increase hitstun to .487? I dunno, I'm gonna wait before passing judgement. I gave my thoughts on what needs changing though

Whatever you do, don't have newbies try this code set, use kupo's or Mookie's for that as it's faster and will give them a good outlook on the differences between B+ and vB. That's what I'm going to do when I got to TYM if nothing is changed in this code set or if I don't get used to it anytime soon lol.

I'm not dismissing this code set yet, I've had it for only a half hour, but so far I've felt more characters were adversely affected by it then benefited. Half the characters can't even dream of going anywhere off the stage (bye bye Epic Falcon off-the-stage kills) and some of the characters are doomed if they fast fall, making their recoveries too predictable (I'm looking at you Gdorf).

I only messed in training mode, I'm about to go do some comp stomps now.

I just played with it for the last hour and a half, I don't see why CF is too heavy. Sure, he falls fast, but this allows for even better SHFFLs, and he can still do things like double Uair in a FH.
I personally like this much better, I love the feel.

Yea I agree. At first I was like, what? But its a "little" better but then I aso agree with this...

I feel the offstage options are limited by the gravity and the whole air game feels askewed atm and being more air based and most aerials last a while, I think this should be somewhat preserved. More testing though...

It takes some getting used to, I only played it for an hour and it was against CPUs so it was kinda boring. I need to play humans in order to feel it. lol

I will continue to update my original post as I play in the coming days. If Brawlplusery members could address the questions in the post as they come I'd appreciate it.

You'll notice that most characters rest in the 1.05 to 1.15 range for grav, so yes, this might feel slower than the gameplay you're used to.

We make no claims about these values being perfect. In fact, far from it. With limited people back there, we could only test so much in the time we had with the codes. In actuality, we only had all the kinks in the code worked out just yesterday. These character values are a starting point, and it is expected that we will need to change them based on the community's feedback.
