The Amateur Melee League is an Orlando, Florida based league designed with new and up and coming players in mind. The league will provide for meaningful matches for players to create opportunities to learn and improve.

We have two major changes we're implementing with Season 2 that we're very proud of, and we have, of course, updates and tweaks to the way we ran Season 1 that will make Season 2 even better. The two major changes are shown below in the Format and Player Eligibility Rules sections.

Season 2 will have a different format than Season 1. This time around, there will be no more round robin pools.

Instead, we will be implementing an Elo rating system, where you have the possibility to play any player at any time. Fearless wrote his own software that we are excited to start using. Here's a breakdown of how it will work:

Players will check-in whenever they attend an event that features the AML, and when they do, they will be put into the pool of players available for matches. When you are done for the day, or want to leave to get food or whatever, you can check out, and you will be removed from that pool for the time being.

While you are in the pool, we will assign a match to you when a setup is open. You will not choose your opponents. You can only play a specific player once per day.

When you win, your rating will improve. When you lose, your rating will drop. The loss/gain in rating for each player will be determined by the difference in rating between the two players. The more closely the players are rated, the more their loss and gain in rating will be about the same. However, if the difference between two players is larger, then the lower rated player wins more than usual for winning, and loses less than usual for losing, with the reverse being true for the higher rated player.

Everyone will begin the season with the same Elo rating. Ratings will be maintained in a Google docs spreadsheet that we will update at the end of every event.

The following are some pros of the Elo rating system that directly address a lot of player's (and our own) concerns about Season 1:
  • No more worrying about getting people to show up on certain days, or telling people not to play if their pool isn't the pool for that day.
  • No more seeding issues (Eclipsing Binary)
  • Player's ratings will be able to directly seed into the Finals Day bracket with 100% transparency, and no subjectivity.
  • Players can play as many matches as they can handle.

All regular season matches are best of 3. The league follows the standard Apex rule set which can be found here: www.meleeitonme.com/img/Apex_2015_rulebook.pdf

Each participant is required to pay $10.

A small portion ($3) of this will go to support league activities, with the majority of it (7$) going straight into the pot.

The payouts will look like this:

1st - 40%
2nd - 25%
3rd - 15%
4th - 10%
5th - 5%
5th - 5%
7th - 0%
7th - 0%

1: If you have any questions about your eligibility, just ask! We will consider questionable players on a case by case basis.

2: We have the right to refuse any player from entering the league at any time.
