The 100 song SHOWDOWN - video games edition

Hi people. This is my first ever post on this forum and I figure i'd make it on something that could be very enjoyable for all of ya. I don't know if this has been done before I mean with so many posts and stuff maybe it has but I'm going to try it anyway. I borrowed this from an old forum and have had the permission of the creator(assumed creator) to use it freely anywhere because I don't like stealing things.

Video game music comes in many varieties. It could be from a boss theme, over world theme, credits, opening, character theme, etc. Each series has a different take of how they sound to fit the game and or make it better. All of us here enjoy music from video games, I'm sure, but we're here to see which one would be the last song standing after duking it out with 99 other formidable pieces of video game music.

This is how things will go down. I am going to use a RNG and place all 100 songs in 20 rounds that consist of 5 songs. You guys are going to rate the songs on a scale of 0-10. You can rate the songs with the same ratings if you want. Hell, if you dislike everything, you can give everything a low score. I just figure the 0-10 system works more than the other thing. At the end of the round, I'm going to divide the total score of each song by the amount of people that participated in the round. The 20 songs with the best ratings will proceed to the next round, which will then be narrowed down to 5, before a winner is declared in the final round.


Now, here's something that I'll need YOUR guys' help with. I want all of you guys to PM me your favorite video game music to fill up this list. It wouldn't be fun if this was just a list of video game music I and other select people like. I would prefer you guys send me 5-10 songs from video games in order of most favorite to the least. That way, if I get some repeats, I'll be able to work with it because I have more songs to choose from you guys. And please, when you send me a PM, no more than two songs from the same game/series. I want some variety in this showdown, so try to pick 1 song for each franchise and not like 5 from the same one.

If or when I get enough PM's to fill 100 songs, I will show a spoiler that lists all 100 songs that were chosen and the rounds they're in. I will then begin round 1 for all of you to rate and stuff.

tl;dr version:
-you guys are gonna PM me the songs
-1 at the least and 10 at the most so choose wisely

-the 100 songs are gonna be split into 20 rounds of 5 to be rated
-rate 0-10 (u gotta rate all 5 songs in the round obs)
-highest rated (divide total score of a song by number of participants in that round to get average; rinse repeat till all 5 songs are averaged out) wins
-rinse repeat for 20 rounds

Alright, well we have 100 songs. I apologize if some of you got under-represented, but there were many submissions from the same series and I had to choose 2 or 3 depending on said series.

This should be interesting as these songs are way different from each other. You can rate 0-10 and you can use decimals in the tenths. Remember to give all of the song a chance before judging (unless the song is an extended version in which case just a few minutes of it should give you the idea)! Try to be fair with your ratings and don't overrate or underrate to elevate a song and sabotage another.

40. Donkey Kong Country - Gang Plank Galleon - 7/10. I like how it starts out with a pirate-y theme and get's faster and more frantic over the course of the track.
71. Kirby Triple Deluxe - The World to Win - 8/10. An epic theme for the coup de grace of the game. The intro pumps you up for the last phase of the battle, and I especially like the instrumentalization.
62. Final Fantasy X - To Zanarkand - 7/10. The theme is pretty classic, and for good reasons. It carries a ton of emotion and has a beautiful piano.
50. Kingdom Hearts 2 - Sanctuary - 8/10. A beautiful intro to the sequel of a great JRPG game. If only the fanbase wasn't so bad...

59. No More Heroes 2 - Philistine ~ RANK 4 Margaret Moonlight - 8/10 I'd say this is a hella guilty pleasure for me, but I don't feel guilty about it.
40. Donkey Kong Country - Gang Plank Galleon - 6.5/10 It was good, but it felt monotonous rather quickly.
71. Kirby Triple Deluxe - The World to Win - 7/10 I liked it, seems like a good fight theme.
62. Final Fantasy X - To Zanarkland - 7.5/10 I'm a sucker for pretty piano themes.
50. Kingdom Hearts 2 - Sanctuary - 7/10 Usually not my type of song, but I liked this one well enough. Felt like it ran for a bit long, though. Also I'm pretty sure I've heard this in some travel commercial recently.

59. 7/10 - This campy song took some time to grow on me, but it's not one I'll listen to often.
40. 9/10 - King K. Rool's theme on the other hand, I can't get enough of. I agree with @ xLemmy_KoopaX on this one.
71. 8/10 - This battle music is enjoyable, but the tempo is sometimes too fast for its own good.
62. 8/10 - An emotional piano piece, and a good one, but not one I'll listen to often.
50. 7.5/10 - Good J-pop music, but the orchestrated version greatly trumps it in my opinion.

59. 5/10 - This song is weird and the lyrics are.... Unique. Not my style, but I think this is OK I guess.
40. 8.5/10 - This song is classic Donkey Kong, it has a good sound to it, and I like the changing musical styles throughout.
71. 7/10 - I like how this theme sort of mixes the old and the new musical styles of Kirby with the traditional leitmotifs from the original games. Not my favorite Kirby theme of all time because it is a bit unbalanced (too many highs and not enough low instruments), but all in all a solid song.
62. 8.5/10 - Wonderful piano piece invoking a lot of emotion and feels for Tidus' homeland that was overrun by Sin a thousand years before the time period the plot (past the first half hour or so) is set in.
50. 7.8/10 - Wonderful song, but I'm not sure if it's because I like the song or because my nostalgia likes the song.

EDIT: Rounded 7.75 up to 7.8 since we can only reply in numbers to the tenths place.

Well Spak's post brought up something. You gotta vote for every song in the round or else it doesn't count. Don't care if you nominated it. Just go for it I don't mind and nobody else does either. Been doing it this way since the beginning and I ain't changing it now.

59. 4/10 - I just really don't like this very much, it's all a little bit over the place; although from what I understand of NMH that's kinda what makes the game what it is.

40. 5/10 - Eh. I'll probably get flak for this but beyond the first couple seconds, which i'll admit that it's catchy and iconic, it's just a bit monotonous.

71. 7.7/10 - I had never heard this before, but I really like it. It's got a great Layton vibe going on as well as that little snippet of Green Greens.

62. 6.5/10 - It's pretty. I like it.

50. 6/10 - Maybe i'm harsh, but it's the same criticism as K. Rool's Theme: beyond the really iconic part at the start it's a little bland.

92. Super Paper Mario - The Ultimate Show - 10/10 Hey look, the only theme I suggested that actually made it in. Of course I'm gonna give it a 10.
45. Donkey Kong Country 2 - Stickerbrush Symphony - 9/10 Amazing, but I prefer the Brawl version.
74. Golden Sun - Battle with Saturos - 8.5/10 Wow. I didn't know Golden Sun had such amazing music.
86. Kid Icarus Uprising - The War's End - 8.7/10 I love me some epic choirs.
80. Super Castlevania IV - Simon's Theme - 8.5/10 Really catchy.

92: 7/10: It's a bit busy, but manages to convey what it wants to very well
45: 8/10: Calming, a bit eerie, but still nice to listen to. I like it.
74: 7/10: It's pleasant to listen to, but at the time kind of all over the place at parts. Such nostalgia, though.
86: 8/10: I probably would have liked this a lot more when I was younger, but I am a sucker for booming orchestral musical and choirs. Plus the call backs to previous Kid Icarus themes is really neat.
80: 8/10: Fun, catchy and memorable, as always with Castlevania music. I feel like the Castlevania Chronicles version of this song would have been better to represent the series than the CVIV version.

92. Super Paper Mario - The Ultimate Show - 7/10. The intro is fantastically chaotic and the music gives both an awesome, weird and eerie feeling. I do think it is a bit overrated though, but I still like it. Oh well.
45. Donkey Kong Country 2 - Stickerbrush Symphony - 8/10. Another classic for good reason. This track calms me, and I enjoy listening to such tracks in many situations in my life; during homework and/or while studying, while playing games or just when I am feeling bad. I actually like this version more than the Brawl version, although that one is beautiful for an entirely different reason.
74. Golden Sun - Battle with Saturos - 9/10. I have a lot of (more or less) fond memories of this theme. When you hear this track in Golden Sun, get ready or get your ass kicked. This track is just pure excitement and awesomeness for me.
86. Kid Icarus Uprising - The War's End - 8/10. This kinda is Nintendo's Dancing Mad. This track is sooo long. But you know what? I don't care, because it is 11 minutes of epic. I love how we have a literal battle of the Kid Icarus Main Theme and the Hades Theme going on.
80. Super Castlevania IV - Simon's Theme - 7/10. The theme sounds really dang catchy and adventurous.

92. 7.5/10 - It sounds very dark and twisted, but all over the place.
45. 9/10 - Beautiful and relaxing.
74. 8/10 - Considering this battle theme is from a GBA game, it sounds impressive.
86. 8.5/10 - This orchestral/choir piece screams "Welcome to the Underworld, this is your final battle!"
80. 8.5/10 - I was always amazed at how the original SNES version of Simon's Theme managed to be both catchy and atmospheric, and none of the remixes from later Castlevania games have really topped it in that regard, at least in my opinion.

45. Donkey Kong Country 2 - Stickerbrush Symphony - 6.5/10 It was tranquil and nice, but I got bored of it around the middle.
74. Golden Sun - Battle with Saturos - 7.5/10 Hot damn
86. Kid Icarus Uprising - The War's End - 5/10 It's all over the place and feels a lot too long, despite the individual sections being alright. I have a feeling this is one of those songs you like a lot more once you've actually played the game.
80. Super Castlevania IV - Simon's Theme - 5.5/10 Seemed kind of average to me.

45. Donkey Kong Country 2 - Stickerbrush Symphony - 3/10 Peaceful in a way that got me too bored. Simple background piece imo
74. Golden Sun - Battle with Saturos - 6/10 Pretty nice battle theme but it doesn't feel all that pumped up.
86. Kid Icarus Uprising - The War's End 6.2/10 An epic sounding piece but to me it doesn't hold much weight.
80. Super Castlevania IV - Simon's Theme 5/10 Decent retro music but nothing special.

Not really. I gave it a good score but I've never played a Castlevania game before.
