So, this saturday (May 31st) I am going to my first tournament ever. Any tips that anyone can provide would surely be appreciated. Also, ask me anything about this tournament and I'll do my best to answer.

Have fun and play as many people as possible. Don't be afraid to ask for tips from better players, most enjoy giving them. Be as social as you can and try to get to know the scene, smash tournaments are an easy way to make friends and get connected into a tight community.

1. dont listen to froggy.
2. have fun. losing is okay. use the tournament as a learning experience. if you get too wrapped up in winning as the overall main goal, then you miss out on a lot of fun learning experiences and new friendships.
3. if theres a player you admire, ask em to play some friendlies. easiest way to learn from the best + make new friend!
4. do work and take names and try your best c:
5. do NOT allow yourself to get so discouraged that the event isnt fun. it's fine to be upset at a loss - its not fun, really - but dont let it be all consuming.

I am very curious if this ends up happening to you.

Too often I go to tournaments play people and usually never get around to intermingling with the people I play with. At least not with newer people I meet. So, I would say after like the first match or two just start introductions. Asking for your name/tag more than once is something everyone does it seems lol

I'll be sure to keep all that in mind! Thanks! I don't know why losing to a girl would be such a bad thing haha

Just a heads up. I will be playing in the PM tourney that is going on there. My Wii won't play my copy of Melee but PM has been loads of fun and I've come up with some pretty cool tricks with Yoshi (my main if anyone missed it from before). I've also practiced a few of aMSa's tricks. I don't quite have his edge-stalling eggs down yet but I'm working on it (though the egss act completely different in PM). I've been trying to find an alternative to Yoshi just in case I get bodied, and Lucas is pretty great I think. Does anyone have any tips on playing Lucas or could recommend someone to watch who mains Lucas?

Oh what was wrong with what I said?

Are you kidding? It will be humiliating. Not only will other people think less of you because of it but you will think less of yourself as well. Its pathetic.

That said if you do have to play a girl don't let the fear of loosing to her go to your head and therefore play worse because of it.

I mean, losing to anyone is humiliating. Sex plays no role in how much I respect someone. However, if I get beat by a hot chick at smash bros I may need to step up my flirt game along with my other game.

I like how the guy who casually calls me a douchebag all the time is now casually saying it's humiliating to lose to a girl when there's no logical ****ing reason a girl shouldn't be able to beat you in Smash. Women turn into crazy feminazi ******* after meeting enough guys like you, Froggy.

Virgins don't see women the same way non-virgins do.

Please answer the question.
Yes. Not that this side conversation has anything to do with the topic I made this thread for. Just because you or someone you know lost their virginity and suddenly lost all respect for women does not mean that everyone will.

I thought about taking this thread down because I predicted that you might be an arrogant prick, please prove me wrong.

Oh come on, Froggy. Stop being sexist and trying to start an argument. And virginity is a ridiculous question to ask.
Well is it really sexist if its true? Like if you fight a girl and she beats you up its very emasculating. You can't blame someone for being embarrassed.

Aha I knew it! Believe me you will stop thinking women are so special after you've ****ed enough of them.

It's a ****ing video game, dude. Your posts are so bigoted that I'm not even sure if you're if you're trying to troll or if you actually believe this ****.

Alright, stop it here. I'm not putting up with this crap. I'm leaving the thread open for the op's sake, and if you continue any of this I'm infracting, no questions asked.

The things people say on smashboards smh. Women aren't as good at videogames as men are. Thats not some cultural secret.

I maybe mistaken but didn't you and I used to be very friendly with each other? Like I feel awkward making a counter insult to you. Weren't we cool with each other?

I guarantee there are over a hundred women who could body you for free in Smash. There's no physical or mental thing holding a girl back from getting good at Smash, there just aren't as many, probably because they avoid gaming much because they run into fun people like you.

I'm pretty sure we were. In the Unhappy thread we'd often give each other advice, when the other had a problem. I don't know how you felt but I was always appreciate of you. And just because you disagree with me doesn't mean you should say abusive things does it?

DWL OMG NO!! In fact I guarantee there aren't more than a dozen women who have a favorable chance at defeating me in smash. And even a dozen is a very conservative approximation here.

So you just completely ignored me telling you to stop? Just "didn't see [my] post?"

Sure. And it isn't just trolling, it's some of the most bigoted opinions I've heard on here in ages. It functions the same as trolling, in the end.

Play as if you were doing a friendly... minus trying to go needlessly deep or trying to style unnecessarily when you don't have to.

Dr. Peepee saw a huge rise in tourney placement when he started playing for fun, so maybe by not being as serious, you also ease the nerves a bit too.
