Support for more than 4 controllers?

Would it be possible to hack Melee to support 8 players?

Alongside Gamecube Mario Strikers, Mario Party 7 and Double Dash?

I could care less about Melee compared to the other 3, but I figured my friends would like 8 player Melee

I was thinking more on a hacked Wii U

Nintendont doesn't even have simulated multitap support, it's only possible on PC with lots of memory injection.

jeez this is actually a sick idea... if nintendo ever decides to release melee HD (we can only wish lol) that would be sick
