Making its Super Smash Con debut is Smash Masters, a side event created in order to determine the most proficient player across all four Smash games. Top-players battle it out in Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. On one side of Semi-finals we have Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman versus Michael "Nintendude" Brancato, and on the other we have Eric "ESAM" Lew against Justin "Wizzrobe" Hallet. Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios was originally set to play M2K but dropped out to focus on Smash 4.
The Rules (courtesy of the SCC website):
- A rock, paper, scissors game to determine who strikes games first
- The winner strikes one game from the series
- The loser then strikes one game from the series
- From the remaining two games, the RPS winner chooses which Smash title will be played first
- A normal Best of 3 set is played with normal tournament rules
- The loser of the set counterpicks which Smash title will be played next (from any unplayed title in the set)
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 until all Smash titles have been played
- The final scoring for the set will be determined by who won more sets (who won more Smash titles).
- If tied 2-2, then the player with more game victories is the winner.
- If game victories are tied, we will use a metric known as “big victories”, which will be awarded if a particularly lopsided win occurs
- A “Big Victory” is earned for Smash 64 / Smash Melee if the winner has 3 stocks or more when the match ends
- A “Big Victory” is earned for Smash Brawl / Smash Wii U if the winner has 2 stocks or more when the match ends
Mew2KIng and Nintendude: Semis
Melee: M2K wins 2-1 over Nintendude with one Big Victory. Nintendude very well could have won the last game had this not had happened.
Smash 4: M2K wins 2-0 with two Big Victories over Nintendude
Brawl: M2K wins 2-0 with two Big Victories over Nintendude
Smash 64: Nintendude wins 2-1 with one Big Victory, M2K also snags one Big Victory
Mew2King (Final Set Count 3-1) advances to Grand Finals
Wizzrobe and ESAM: Semis
Melee: Wizzrobe wins over ESAM 2-0. Despite it being a bad MU for Samus, ESAM managed to keep the games close and so Wizzrobe pulled away with no Big Victories.
Brawl: ESAM wins the first game over Wizzy with a Big Victory. Also, this happened. However, Wizzrobe wins the second game which prompts ESAM to go Ice Climbers the third game. In an extremely close Game 3, ESAM clutches it out albeit with no Big Victory.
Smash 64: Wizzrobe utterly destroys ESAM /. 2 Big Victories for Wizzy.
Smash 4: ESAM beats Wizzrobe 2-1 with one Big Victory for ESAM.
Wizzrobe (Final Set Count 2-2) advances to GF
Melee: M2K wins 2-0 over Wizzy. Wizzy keeps it close so no Big Victories for M2K. We also saw a sick recovery edge-cancel from M2K.
Smash 64: Wizzy wins with 2 Big Victories over M2K . Wizzrobe showing us his clear dominance in S64.
Brawl: Wizzrobe loses 2-0 to M2K . M2K with a Big Victory Game 1 but not Game 2.
Smash 4: Seeing how if M2K won one game he stood no chance, the set ends abruptly at 1-0 when M2K beats Wizzy game one.
Mew2King is your Super Smash Con Smash Master! Final set count: 3-1
