About
For several months, myself and several other people have been working on a fangame known as Super Smash Bros. Fusion. This game is being developed in Clickteam Fusion 2.5. Our primary goal with this game is to include unique series and features that will most likely never happen in a real Super Smash Bros. game. We also intend to take full advantage of the game's status as a 2D, sprite-based game. We’ll be releasing content of the game in multiple phases, with the first release build only having a small selection of characters and stages, but gradually will add more as time goes on. The first 12 and a selection of others will be the game’s starting roster, with the rest being unlockable.
Characters
We wish to bring unique characters into the Smash Bros. universe that would never happen in an actual Smash game. These range from characters who have never had full appearances on Nintendo's systems to characters who didn't even debut in games. (though we promise to restrict those types of characters to ones which already have a strong connection to video games in some way) While SSF2 and Crusade do similar things, most of their choices lean towards the "safer" side of character selections. First-parties will not be entirely ignored, though they will mostly be older cult favorites to fit within our roster goals. In addition, certain veterans will also be updated to make them feel more representative of the unique elements of their games.
Our first release build will include 12 characters, future major builds will add 1-3 characters per update. We do not plan on revealing the full roster count at this time, but we don't think the amount we have is too ridiculous. We intend to add a shop-based unlocking system for characters and other content later on, but that will not be present in the first few builds. We’ll list the roster, and any important changes/elements below.
- Mario - Mario will be getting Dr. Mario's down air and down special.
- Donkey Kong
- Link - He will be updated to represent various Zelda games as a whole rather than one particular game.
- Kirby - Kirby will have his moveset updated to address his range issues and represent his copy abilities a bit better. He also now wears the respective hat whenever he uses a move based on a Copy Ability.
- Pikachu
- Ness - He will be recieving two new mechanics based directly on EarthBound; A power boost when hitting opponents from behind, and a "rolling percentage" mechanic.
- Captain Falcon
- Mr. Game & Watch - His grab will now be based on the Game & Watch's Mickey Mouse game.
- Sonic - He will be receiving a new side special, the Boost, and an aerial variant of his down special, the Bounce Attack.
- Goku - One of the most frequently used characters in Super Smash Bros. fangames, Fusion is no different. However, we've differentiated him by basing his depiction in the game off of Dragon Ball FighterZ rather than being based on the anime, with Goku always being in his Super Saiyan form during battle. His moveset includes projectile normal ki blasts, his signature Kamehameha, Instant Transmission, the Dragon Flash Fist, and a flurry of kicks called the Rapid Kick Rush, with his Final Smash being the Meteor Smash.
- Gordon - Our first fully unique character, Gordon is intended to be an example of the type of characters we want to add to the game. Gordon will have a mechanic that allows him to reduce some of the knockback (but not damage) he takes from attacks.
- Crash - While Super Smash Bros. Crusade also included Crash, we wanted to create a more unique moveset that better represents the character and his gameplay. His moveset will include his trademark belly flop, slide and spin attacks, his Fruit Bazooka, Polar, and even an arrow crate. His Final Smash will utilize the Mecha-Bandicoot from Crash Twinsanity.
In Fusion, most stages will be associated with a playable character. The first release build of the game will include Battlefield and Final Destination. Character-associated stages will be revealed at a later date.
Items
A selection of both new and returning items will be featured in the first release build, with more being added in later builds. The exact details will be revealed at a later date.
Modes
The first release build will only have the basic Smash and Training modes, but we do intend to add several other new and returning modes over the course of this games’ development. The exact details will be revealed at a later date.
Media
For this thread, I’ve prepared a demo with Mario and a Sandbag, that allows you to test various attacks. Controls are Z for normals, and X for specials.

Contributing
If any of this sounds interesting to you and you want to contribute to the project in some form, please private message me with what role you want in the project (i.e., Spriter, Programmer, etc). Note that for spriters, the game will be using an art style similar to Jump Ultimate Stars or Kirby Super Star Ultra.
Even if you don't wish to contribute, feedback on what we've discussed and showcased here would be appreciated.
