So a reminder that we will be choosing characters to buff, nerf, or not change for our version update once Zangreus and his bundle appears. I have yet to decide if we will actually list the actual buffs and/or nerfs when we get the results. Voting will be held for the remainder of the weekend.
So I have been looking at our current roster and we currently have two humanoid male fighters, one uses a sword and the other uses various items as well as logic. Zagreus was created to appear similar to his hand-drawn appearance in Hades but also keeping true the Smash aesthetics while Phoenix has a more anime-esque approach that's in the same vein as the likes of Joker, Hero, and Terry. In addition, both characters are very gimmick oriented. So, I have been wanting to balance out our third included fighter to contrast these aspects. We have two more characters for this pack waiting to be included and I intend for our fourth character to be a prompt that's submitted by the thread (we submit a theme prompt for the character for people to base submissions off of).
So, I have had several ideas for submission prompts floating in my head to help balance out this roster. Mind you, we are still keeping this strictly to Japanese-only characters since we have Zagreus in our pass. Also, Project Touhou, Capcom and Sonic characters or those affiliated with dark red and blue are ineligible. We are also keeping it strictly to third party. Also, due to a connection between the two series, Professor Layton will also be ineligible in this first pass.
1) An animal/creature-based fighter: This is to help contrast against our two humanoid fighters. Possible picks could include Agumon, Klonoa, AiAi, Frogger, Deathclaw (Fallout), etc. The only issue is that there are a number of western picks that could also fit in this category so perhaps its better to save it for our next pass?
2) A more basic, simple character: This it to help contrast against our two gimmicky fighters. Some potential picks could be the aforementioned Aiai, Pyramid Head, Wonder Red, Katalina (Granblue), Chrono, platformer-based fighters
3) A female fighter: This helps contrast against our two male fighters. Possible picks include: Katalina, Miriam, Sakura, Sabre, Kasumi (DoA), etc
4) A cartoony fighter: This helps contrast against Zagreus and Phoenix who are more cartoony than, say, Kazuya or Simon but are still rather serious in tone. Picks could include NiGHTS, Oliver (Ni no Kuni), someother characters that I am kind of blanking on.
Of course, these characters and their series needs to be at least popular or have a noticeable legacy with some connection to the Nintendo systems. These characters needs to be able to sell the bundle and produce noticeable hype to encourage these purchases. These four options are ones I have considered but actually stuck on which is why i am coming to the thread for input. I was originally going with option 1 but I wanted to be more transparent. I will say that I will consider all of the input people give but this isn't a vote. Merely a discussion on which one would make sense within this pass that has Zagreus and Phoenix in it so far.
