Super Smash Blog Weekly Roundup: Small But Mighty Edition (7/15 - 7/19)

Welcome back to the Super Smash Blog Weekly Roundup. This week served to remind us to never overlook the "smaller" details, and that even after ten years, snakes can still be quite tasty. Let's get started.

7/15

  • Fighter: Pichu

Everyone is here, and that means even Pichu gets his time in the spotlight for the first time since Super Smash Bros. Melee! He doesn't seem to be getting the joke treatment this time around though: a side tilt that can cause a foe to trip, extra range and power for his electric attacks (though they still damage him!), and the single least-punchable face in the entire Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster are sure to make this baby Pokémon a terrifying glass cannon.

Seriously though, look at him. If you actively want to cause harm to this little bundle of joy, you might want to call a doctor to fill that missing heart of yours.

  • Stage: Moray Towers

Hailing as our first brand new stage shown on the Smash Blog, it's Moray Towers from Splatoon! This tall stage lives up to the foundation of its source material, with ramps going down multiple stories and plenty of opportunities to easily drop all the way down and climb back up. In addition, both Judd and Li'l Judd are present to point out the color of the fighter in the lead, and even the Splatfest version of the stage is present!

Does Lil' Judd ever sleep? And does he dream of electric squids?

  • Music: Snake Eater
  • Stage: Wily Castle

To the delight of many, Wednesday treated us to our first taste of new music for the Metal Gear series. This time, it's a remix of the fan favorite "Snake Eater" from the entry of the same name, arranged by the series' own Nokuko Toda. While she wasn't the original composer of the song, she got her start with Metal Gear Solid 3 and was also behind Metal Gear Solid 4's "Theme of Love,” for both its original and Super Smash Bros. Brawl arrangements. She has been absent from the series as a composer for quite some time, so it's great to hear from her again.

From one third party to another, we were also given another look at the returning Wily Castle from Mega Man. The stage now combines the hazards from both Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, complete with the Yellow Devil.

  • Fighter: Bowser Jr.

The Future King and the Seven Koopa Generals return! His trailer doesn't give us much to work with in terms of potential changes, but we do know he will still take less damage if the Clown Car is hit rather than Junior himself, so mind your positioning!

Hey, has anyone seen Pit? He had a run in with a Tempura Wizard earlier and- Oh dear.

  • Item: Bewear

We close off the week with another new Pokémon, Bewear! He's slow but packs a punch, so... beware!

Sorry for that horrible pun before. But you should Bewear-y that I make them sometimes. Some people call it un-bear-able.
See you all next week!

Author's Note: Fenriraga is actually pretty excited to see the new Pichu in action. Are there any fighters you didn't play much before that you have renewed interest in? Let us know in the comments!

So many unbearable puns makes me ware-y of the Bear truth that we should beware-y of old news blog updates.

That didn’t make any sense. I’m happy to be getting these updates but I know a lot of us find the wait for new content to be...well...unbearable.

D
Bewear going to make you weary of everything and going to mess you up in an instant.
