Super Smash Blog Updates

Hey guys! So, I'm not sure if many of you remember / were around, but I previously went by the name "iDOWN", and was a Mod and staff writer for Smash Boards in the pre-Smash 4 era. I ran the Daily Miiverse Picture topic, which was basically a discussion topic about the daily pictures that Masahiro Sakurai would put up on Miiverse regarding Super Smash Bros for Wii U / 3DS. I thought it would be fun to continue that for Smash Ultimate with a discussion topic for the daily (or what I assume will be daily) Super Smash Blog posts.

Rules:
  1. All posts and topics must stay within the guidelines of the Global Rules.
  2. Please stay on topic even while waiting for the next update. Instead take your discussions to the Smash Ultimate Discussion thread or, if it's specific character talk, to the appropriate Character Discussion sub-forum.
  3. Please do not make Troll Updates.
If you have any questions or spot something that conflicts with the above rules please contact one of the staff members, or report the post in question. If you disagree with any actions of any of the staff members, please contact them privately, or go to Forum Support.

Please enjoy the new Super Smash Blog thread.

FIGHTERS

Today's Fighter
#09: Luigi
He can jump higher than his brother, Mario. His Up Special, Super Jump Punch, will gain maximum damage and launching power when hitting the opponent right at the start. It truly is a "Special" move. He also uses his new Poltergust for his throw!
https://youtu.be/LlNXKM3sHWU
Today's Fighter
#54: Palutena
With her wings and staff, this goddess's attacks cover a wide range. With her up smash, neutral special, and side special, she can create a ranged attack in almost every direction except for directly beneath her! Keep the pressure on your opponents from a distance with ranged attacks!
https://youtu.be/0yD_B4ZkdME
Today's Fighter
#61: Cloud
He's the protagonist of Final Fantasy VII. You can also select his Advent Children outfit. Charging up his Limit Gauge increases his special move abilities! Land a powerful hit!
https://youtu.be/hccjmuujoD4
Today's Fighter
#57: Shulk
He is the only fighter that can change his status during battle. His sword, the Monado, allows him to switch between five modes—Jump, Speed, Shield, Buster and Smash—which change his abilities for a short time. Fun fact: Shulk's eighth color variation puts him in a pair of swimming trunks!
https://youtu.be/XWeR6XmzZyI
Today's Fighter
#50: Greninja
A ninja-like fighter that battles with moves like the Water Shuriken. Greninja can use a log for clever counterattacks, and this Pokémon can even stick to walls. During its Final Smash, it turns into Ash-Greninja...!?
https://youtu.be/rMCn8NuATaE
Today's Fighter
#18: Dr. Mario
He has more attack and launch power than Mario, but his jump and recovery is not as good. Pro tip: You can repeatedly press the B button when using his down special, Dr. Tornado, to float a bit!
https://youtu.be/w0qVpaEtEF4
Today's Fighter
#47: Wii Fit Trainer

https://youtu.be/kJbHRv4nCBw
Today's Fighter
#07: Fox
He can overwhelm his opponents with his quick movements, and his specials don't leave him open for counterattacks. His costume and voice have been redone to match his appearance in Star Fox Zero. This Fox is brand new! "Come on!"
https://youtu.be/Arw6c0dJHAE
Today's Fighter
#16: Sheik
Now Sheik joins the battle wearing the Sheikah costume from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Keep the pressure on your opponent by using his speedy dash to quickly close in on (or get away from) your opponent!

Today's Fighter
#21ᵋ: Lucina
Lucina is Marth's echo fighter, so she shares most of her standard and special attacks with Marth. However, while Marth's attacks are more powerful when made with the tip of his blade, Lucina's attacks just as powerful whether you use the tip or the base of the sword.

STAGES

Today's Stage

Today's Stage

It’s somehwere between 12 pm and 7 pm here in Japan. So that’s 11 pm and 6 am in the States Eastern Time. The updates seem to come at different times of the day with, for now, three per day. Also, it’s Saturday today so we will see if there will be any updates on the weekend.

In addition, the Japanese site has different blog updates (and more) compared to the US version. I can help translate the ones that’s not featured. Source Gaming PushDustIn PushDustIn seems to be the man for the job, though.

Edit: Stickied the thread for now.

AHHHHHHH finally this threadc came along!

So, in the events that people recognise me from my previous activity in ssb4 time, HI, a lot has changed since about me and I mostly left sb inactive because I found other places to talk and ssb was less of an interest.

But one thing that I need to mention is to be honest, I loved the potd thread so much back then that a lot of the best memories I had from sb comes form that thread. This is why I will do an exception to my inactivity: this thread. We are 6 months away from a release so having a potd is REALLY nice and I cannot wait to check every day for them! I also cannot wait to see old users that I never had the chances to talk to since :)

So one thing, I now work fulltime until fall when I will study unis which gives me more free time (yep, even with unis, I seem to have a lot of leftover time) so this means that I won't be able to be there until 12-1am EST reliably, maybe I will stay later if my sleep schedule is that screwed up, I remmeber the original potd was 3-4 am EST so this might be a problem, but hopefully they will get posted earlier. The reason I was able to be so consistent back then was simply because I was ending my high school at the time and that was basically giving me 90% of free time so I couls have slept at 4am eveyr day and have no problem, but this is no longer the case. At the very least, chatting in this thread hours before it is my pleasure :)

Now about this blog psot of the day: I do not expect much for at least a month because they are likely going to show a lot of already confirmed thing especially with stages becuase about 80 were confirmed, I also do not expect ANY character reveal because of EVERYONE IS HERE meaning any reveal is a newcomer and the problem with that is not only they will be newcomer, but there won't be much of them. It makes no sense to reveal them in bptd (blog post of the day) then to reveal them in the next direct which should be in September I guess.

Also, you know which pic I am looking forward the most: the freaking paper mario stage. It eneded up being one of the missing stages, but because Sakurai is a madman, I feel like we are actually going to get every stages back, we are so close that it's not impossible so I don't worry about it being cut, but I am still looking forward to see the stage improved

So yeah, i expect, AT, items and stages. Myabe some misc stuff idk, but I do not expect any character reveal.

And that's all I had to say! it feels good to be back!

I'm guessing this means newcomers and echoes are only going to be in Directs if the blog content is different worldwide.
I was wondering why you thought that but I realized you thought I said that all Japanese Daily Blogs are different. That’s not the case. The Japanese Daily Blogs does have a few different posts (more posts actually) than outside of Japan but they are mostly the same. The ones that are different seem to be tailored to Japanese Smash Players (like Japanese events). So a character reveal can definitely happen in Daily Blogs. However, looking back at a Smash 4, I can’t recall a newcomer character who was revealed during the Pic of the Day. I imagine that newcomers will be revealed in Directs or announced video events.

I know that every newcomer reveal during potd time was veterans, but this ssb is very different because every veterans has been revealed already so it's EXTREMELY unlikely to see char reveal, the best you'll get are stage reveals (which I am still looking forward to).

I think it was meant to be an E3 novelty. I'm guessing it'll be used to announce demo events or possibly DLC or show new trailers from Directs, but I can't see it being Dojo #2.

It updated. Mario's video. Hooraaaaay.

The Japanese site likes to put extra bits up. I get that the US site wouldn't show off the Japanese games, but the fact it doesn't show the US versions is kind of disappointing.

I guess the non Japanese side of things just doesn't want to gather up all the resources needed to show off the "thoughts" on the character since that involves getting NTSC and PAL versions of all the games they talk about.

These times are also really inconsistent. This week alone has somehow managed to outdo The Miiverse POTD sparratic timings.

I also feel like we should get something else along with a fighter considering all the fighters' videos are already up on the site. But that's probably just me being greedy.

Regardless, it's really nice to have something to look forward to every day again.

...That sounds really depressing when I say it out loud. :ultkirby:

It updated with some more bits: Battlefield and the Black Hole item. Nothing too interesting, though the latter does show a stage which seems to be the new Final Destination.

It seems we are getting anywhere from one to three updates on the weekdays. We didn’t get an update on Monday though. I imagine it’ll be rehashed information until the next big reveal.

Edit: I would update but I’m on mobile and I can’t seem to copy the link of the pictures

So the Black Hole is an original item, right?
I think it was an item in Kid Icarus Uprising. I don't know if was an item in the main campaign or battle mode though.
At least, It's effect looks very similar to the one used in Palutena's Final Smash.

So, just did the math. If they post to the blog every Mon-Thu between now and release, we're due for exactly 100 new posts.

Considering they're doing a character post for seemingly every character, we're going to get a character trailer on about 2/3 of every posting day between now and launch.

That's kind of exciting.

The blog updates tends to have a series symbol when it’s attached to a series. The Warp Star was like that. But there isn’t any for either the Black Hole and Battlefield.

Very weird.

Then again, Giga Bowser had the Smash symbol at first, but gained the Mario symbol later on as a Final Smash. So who knows what they're planning.

Yeah. Nothing is for certain but if we are to go my series symbols, then it’s attached to the Smash series. Apparently, SSBwiki also has it with the Smash series.

In terms of content, like I said, we will probably be getting content seem at E3 followed by newer content next month or maybe even August. Especially if they will show every veteran like they just did with Mario. That debut trailer showed us a lot of stuff!

Remember when Waluigi was listed under Wario as an error?

Fun times. The site has had errors these days, so not having a symbol could potentially be an oversight, but it's best to act like it's a generic idea or Smash original for now.

Oh on further inspection of fox holding and throwing the black hole

That might be the real final destination background and stage texture

There’s a new blog post. It consists of a song “Bomb Rush Blush” from Splatoon.

This thread isn't as wild as the old PotD thread, probably because there doesn't really seem to be any designated time or message. Still, it's exciting that Sakurai is updating the blog multiple times a day.

I think while contributed to that wildness was when a PotD was particularly late or if one that we have been waiting for (character reveals) were on the horizon. Or when we got trolled by tunnels and noses.

There's also the fact that people were hungry for anything, even veteran reveals. We were sorta spoiled this time around knowing EVERYONE is returning right off the bat.

I have a feeling that the blog will show off more brand new stuff (like this Splatoon Dance remix) in time but I think that character reveals, if any more, will be saved for Nintendo directs.

Which means we got 6 months of Nintendo Directs either being hype or disappointing.
