The best character, besides Marth, is Fox, maybe Falco(pillar combos), and Sheik(he was the metaknight of Melee during a pretty long period, with his awesome fair). Other characters that have higher metagame potential now are Peach and jigglypuff, you can see it by watching the Genesis tournament finals.
