So this is a little off topic but I can't be bothered trying to find a topic for this so I'll just post it here.

I was thinking the other day about who I would add to Smash if we could have a roster of 100. (unrealistic sure but I wanted to have some room to get a bit creative) Any character is fair game. (as long as they originated in a video game)

It's a mixture of personal wants, likely characters, iconic characters/franchises and some oddball picks for flavour.

--Personal Wants--
75. Phoenix Wright
76. Isaac
77. Monokuma

--Smashboard Wants--
78. Waluigi
79. Geno
80. Dixie Kong
81. Bandana Dee

--Sony Quartet-- (If I could put 101 characters I'd probably add Kratos)
82. Rayman
83. Crash Bandicoot
84. Spyro
85. Lara Croft

--Unrepresented Genre Definers--
86. Doomguy/Doom Slayer (1st Person Shooter)
87. Bella Goth (Life Sim)

--Indie Trio--
88. Shovel Knight
89. Shantae
90. Quote

--Miscellaneous--
91. Bomberman
92. Lloyd Irving
93. Edelgard
94. Sora
95. Master Chief
96. 2B
97. Agumon
98. Abe (Abe's Odyssey)

--Oddball/Retros--
99. Excitebiker/Mach Rider (alt costume)
100. Hakkun

--Honorable Mentions-- (Swap em in if you don't like a character on my list)
1. Kratos
2. Spring Man/Ribbon Girl
3. Astral Chain Character
4. Nightmare
5. Dark Souls Character

It's hard to cover as many bases as possible even when going as far as 100 characters. I do think every character I listed is deserving of a slot in one way or the other though (I mean I guess Hakkun is questionable but oddball picks are rarely "deserving")

Edit: Of course I forgot the Chorus Kids as well. I have a lot of sympathy for Sakurai trying to decide who to add. :p

Know what I miss about Golden Sun so much? The philosophical side of the story, and how it progresses further into the story. It would be a blast to have it return with the franchise, but taken a few steps further knowing the original fanbase of Golden Sun is all grown up now.

We try. Haha! Though, it would be poetic justice if we get Isaac or a Golden Sun game or both announced by the time we reach 1K. That would be awesome!

If Golden Sun, for whatever reason, had a cross-over with another JRPG series, which series do you think would be the most interesting for it to cross-over with?

I feel like it would mix the best with Fire Emblem, since like many FE characters, GS characters use both weapons and magic-type powers.

well, hi all;
this is my first or second post here, but i follow this thread since 2018. That's because I don't know inglish so well, i'm italian, but my wish for Isaac in smash or golden sun 4 is high, so i'm here, hoping with all of you. Unfortunately, i have to say, i don't really think Isaac can be part of second DLC wave: Sakurai himself think that AT are already part of the "roster", so (after the absolutely disappointing reveal of him being AT again), i don't even have so much interest in following Smash Bros brand in general. I still see more likely a golden sun 4, or a 1-2 remake in 2020.

Honestly I feel Zelda would work a lot better to cross over with Fire Emblem, because the characters are more developed in Zelda and they fit the standard classes and weapon and magic types of Fire Emblem best.

Link for example would be based around a Hero archetype but uses Swords and Bows mostly, could also have Epona as a mount to make him somewhat of a Paladin / Bow Knight mix.

Zelda is obviously somewhat like the Bishops but could also use Swords, Bows and mainly Light Magic and healing.

Ganondorf is obviously a specialist in things as Dark Magic, Swords, Lances and the FE3H exclusive Brawling would fit him well too because why not.

Impa could use a mix of Lances, Swords , Brawling and some sort of magic also because why not.

But I struggle to think of other characters from Zelda who would fit standard FE classes and are important enough honestly.

I'll say Ni No Kuni...

Just because I want to see Golden Sun characters in Studio Ghiblis style.

Sakurai himself think that AT are already part of the "roster"
At the same time, consider

These are characters who could already "join the battle" in some form, and in Japan, everyone gets that tagline, regardless of how they were featured in the previous game.

Talking about a new game everythink is possible, but talking about second wave of dlc for Ultimate, i won't bet seeing Isaac. That would make me happy, clearly, but i see hoping more after Rathalos tweet and terrible direction of marketing just a self damaging... While Golden Sun 4 is still likely, mostly for reaction of fans and NoA concern.

Please elaborate, I'm very confused. It seems like you're saying that you don't expect Isaac because Nintendo is bad with marketing and satisfying their fans? While that can be true in the end that argument relies on us knowing how Sakurai and the Big N thinks. A quick skim of the previous 995 pages would prove that we're pretty terrible at that.

I'm sure they know Golden Sun is popular. Am also sure that it's one of the more likely older franchises to get revived on the Switch due to the massive succes of RPGs on the system.

There should be nothing to worry about honestly.

The marketing regarding Ultimate was bad, I mean: showing the moon before Skull Kid, Knuckles before Shadow, and Isaac at the last direct (one of the most wanted and speculated pg) was really contestabile IMHO. I was too upset to hope again, and now Isaac being AT, he is strong enough as a reality to stop speculating.
On the other hand, Nintendo has understood that Golden Sun is a franchise that can still work, so I think golden sun on switch is likely.

That's not really a marketing issue, more of a reveal pacing deal. Either way, nobody on the Nintendo side sees an assist trophy as "part of the roster". Heck, even when ATs were introduced in Brawl Sakurai called them "guests". Sakurai's made a pretty clear distinction what he considers a fighter and what he considers a guest. The referee is involved in Boxing or Wrestling in high capacity, but they are not "on the roster" by any stretch. This is similar.

On one hand, "Assist trophies figure into All-Star Mode" was meant to say "the all-star battle" instead.

On the other, those splash screens I tried to post earlier but got screwed over by Smashboards' ****ty image uploader showed that Chrom and Dark Samus didn't truly "join the battle" until they were playable, not just a Final Smash character/AT.

When DLC is still a thing, anything is possible and that also means Isaac and many other AT/Spirit/Etc. have a chance. It’s only over (with Ultimate) when DLC stops.
Supposedly, Nintendo knows that demand for Isaac is high and if a new Golden Sun game is on the horizon (possibility in 2020), why wouldn’t they take advantage of the opportunity to add Isaac in the roster to help promote the new Golden Sun game? All speculation, but makes sense.
Other fighting games have made NPCs as fighters via DLC before. Why not Smash? Saying that it won’t happen is ludicrous.

Here's a topic question that has been running through my mind every now and then. Since the Takahashi brothers made Golden Sun as a continuous story do you think they have an ending in mind that will complete the Golden Sun story and that's the end of it? It won't be a matter of Golden Sun being dead, just that it's story is completed.

Other rpgs like Fire Emblem and Xenoblade have their longevity by featuring different protagonists each game installment.

Of course it's not impossible for Golden Sun to do something similar for it to be a staple numbered/titled series that gets a release every few years. Could Matthew have a son that looks identical to him and go on to be the protagonist of the next game? Similar to how Zelda uses the same protagonist?

Or could after the end of Isaac and Matthew's story arc the next game be a completely new character to be explored in the world of Golden Sun. Maybe the Takahashi brothers will think of new psynergy concepts and ways for the big bad to cause havoc. Like DQ, new hero who goes to save the world from big bad, Fire Emblem lead an army in a war, or Pokemon becoming champion. Golden Sun could also have it's concept that goes on for each installment.

It's just a matter of whether the Takahashi brothers sees Golden Sun as a series that can continue, or one big story arc that has an ending. Of course I'd like to fast forward to the part where it's already back before wondering how future installments will continue lol.

I'd love for the Takahashi bros. to find a way to continue the Golden Sun series. Maybe it could be something like JoJo, where the descendants/relatives of Isaac continually face new evils (or the same evil again, twice) while taking place in the same world with the same conventions. Clearly, we already have the Isaac saga (TBS, TLA, sort of DD) and the Matthew saga (DD and a potential GS4), so maybe we see the son of Matthew or a descendant of Felix next.

I think they probably do have an endgame in plan. That's fine with me too, I like a good ending, I'd rather have that than have the story stretched out to the point where it has no meaning.

Didn't they state that the first two games were meant to be a prologue of the actual story they had in mind? I think I've read that somewhere. Therefore we wouldn't have to worry about that in the near future anyway.

Also there's no problem if a franchise is finished properly like Mother for instance. So I'd be fine with them either finishing the story arc of GS they have in mind or do it like DQ and use the same concepts with different characters and a different world in each iteration.

Nice! We got nominated in the For Smashies award for most ambitious account. Unfortunately only other For Smash accounts are allowed to vote but the others all do a good job regardless so I'm fine with any outcome
Also here's some great Christmas art from Stoic
Here's the Christmas art that our own Falgor Falgor made a year ago

Yeah I second this as well. Golden Sun being "finished" rather than "dead" again would be fine by me. I just want a proper resolution to the Sun Saga in GS4, hopefully without another cliffhanger lol.

The difference between Golden Sun & Mother is that with Golden Sun, there's still room for a prequel before the events of the GBA games and maybe even a midquel between TLA & DD? That was what I originally wanted GS3 to be since there were still some plot points to be explored post-TLA.

I would love a prequel! I want to know who thought it was a good idea to seal up Alchemy. It also makes me wonder if before, the world was round, but after sealing up Alchemy, it separated Weyard from the world into its own “flat world”. In Dark Dawn, more pieces of Weyard (or the world) started to show up. It’s all theory, but it’s one that’s very fascinating to me.

Honestly, any more information on Weyard in general would be nice. It's such a mysterious place that new places and people all add to.

I second this. I figured the way to go is pretty much a remake of GS1 & 2 at this point. Most people aren't even aware of DD's existence outside of the core, Golden Sun fanbase.
