It's voting time!
Please vote for your top four fighter/stage combos for a ranked vote (self-voting is allowed for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th).
Submissions close tomorrow afternoon!
1. Jacket. (This was a big process of deliberation for me, but Jacket feels like genuinely such both a perfect and obvious pick, whilst also being a great inclusion, that they'd be a brilliant addition in so many ways. Whether it's the visual design of their stage and the Miami Vice feel, the wonderful collections of music, or the high-octane potential of Jacket's moveset, I think there's tons of interesting and cool additions that could turn up here!)
2. CommanderVideo. (Lowkey, I think Bit.Trip is a solid thing to see in an indie title, and feels like kind of a necessary addition - as well as a great and approachable "thing" to kick off the second season of DLC for both new blood and our diehard fans. If he doesn't have a constant rainbow trail behind all of his movement I'm going to riot.)
3. Madotsuki. (I think RPGMaker is a really interesting "thing" to represent in an indie title like this, and Yume Nikki is probably the best fit for that kind of role. Whilst I don't have a massively in-depth knowledge of Yume Nikki, I have enough of a knowledge to know it's both popular and interesting, which feels like a solid fit. It's relatively low on my votes because, admittedly, I don't know enough to really rank it higher.)
4. Arizona. (I think Them's Fighting Herds is a pretty interesting game to represent in a game like this, plus Arizona's nature as both a fighting game character and a quadruped would make them quite an unusual character to play as - in a fun way! I only have Arizona so relatively low because the three above them feel like shoe-in inclusions, but Arizona would nonetheless be very cool to see.

I'm actually going to give a massive honourable mention to Yooka and Laylee, who came very close to snagging the number four spot - I think they'd be another example of an "obvious inclusion" in a great way, but I felt it'd be cool to see another fighting game character make it in. Also, Candyman my beloved - but bias aside, it felt like there were other, more "obvious" picks to me.

  • Yooka & Laylee + ??? (Yooka-Laylee) ( Megadoomer Megadoomer )
    • A stage is required - I'll give Megadoomer until voting ends to submit one.
Sorry about that! I forgot that we needed to include a stage.

Capital Cashino

While I could go with the first level or hub world, I wanted to go with something that was aesthetically different - in this case, a giant gaudy casino. The fighting takes place on top of one of the chandeliers overlooking the casino, and as a stage hazard, minecart tracks will occasionally be lowered onto the screen in various patterns, which are followed shortly after by Kartos driving along and hopping from one track segment to the other, damaging whoever he touches. (the tracks can also be used as platforms - otherwise, it's a flat Final Destination-style stage)

1. Jacket
2. Zero
3. Yooka and Laylee
4. CommanderVideo

Jacket specials:

Neutral Special: Shotgun
- Jacket fires a shotgun, which has a good spread but short range

Forward Special: Machete Mayhem - Jacket leaps forward, swinging a machete downwards like he's chopping with an axe

Back Special: Quick Escape - Jacket rolls backwards to escape, throwing a knife as he lands.

Up Special: Coup De Grace - Jacket prepares to jump, with a targeting reticle that can be aimed. Either when the special button is released or a certain amount of time passes, Jacket leaps in the direction of the reticle. If he hits the opponent during this jump, he holds them down and punches them in the head.

Down Special: Magnum - steadying himself, Jacket fires a bullet from a magnum, which deals high damage and knockback but takes a relatively long time to set up and has predictable movement.

Guard: Door - Jacket stands with his back to a door, like he's preparing to enter a room. The door can withstand one or two attacks depending on their strength, and releasing the guard button causes him to kick it open, dealing damage to whoever's in front of him and knocking them away, though it only protects him from the front.

Job 249: Lava Factory (Annalynn, resubmission)
Pixel Art Stage: Lava Factory (Annalynn)

Holy cow, FazDude submitting Annalynn content? Who could have seen this coming?

In all seriousness, though, I think a stage based off this area in particular could be fun. I'd imagine it'd have a similar layout to what's pictured. This stage's main gimmick is provided by the Venom Brood, consisting of the snakes Randy, Handy, Candy, and Satan Mike. They would enter the stage through the doors seen in the image and deal damage upon contact. However, Blinding Rubies will appear on the top two platforms on occasion; Once picked up, a fighter gains the ability to kick the Venom Brood off-screen via touch, as well as increased attack power!

In short, it's pretty much Pac-Maze. And who doesn't love Pac-Maze?

HOTEL MURDOWER
From Katana ZERO
The Hotel Murdower is one of the firsts stages of the game and is very iconic, in the Hotel Murdower we will fight in the different floors of the hotel being transported to the superior floor by a elevator, the last place is the penthouse and unlike other type of stages here you will be in the penthouse until the end of the match. Like in Katana ZERO there would be items such has bottles or knives that can be grabbed and launched has projectiles.
Alright I will resubmit the Hotel Murdower, I personally think its one of the best options considering how much similar Katana ZERO and Hotline Miami are to the point that fanart of the two is very common.

Job #248:
I wanted an equal split between the first and second game - felt right to me somehow and there's plenty to pull from in both. This was a tough call, but...

1. Hydrogen - the funny Hotline Miami music track that everyone knows and there'd be riots if it wasn't here
2. Miami Disco - any opportunity to get a Peturbator track in here is one I'd leap at, so here it is
3. A New Morning - perhaps a weirder pick, but I felt like a more "chill" track to offset the high tension would be a good call
4. Le Perv - one of those "high tension" pieces that I think fits really well actually it's another "obvious" pick but feels right
5. Future Club - feels like it has a darker tone than some of the others but hey that's a good contrast that works well
6. Pursuit - another high-octane pick that feels like the exact feeling you'd get playing as Jacket and curbstomping a goose

Job #249:

Stage Name: The Arstotzkan/Kolechian Border
Stage Origin
: Papers, Please

In keeping with the theme of pixel art, the 80s (specfically in relation to its Cold War-era setting), and to an extent assassins, I felt that the urban dystopia of the Eastern Bloc would be thematically fitting to contrast Hotline Miami's much more colourful nature, providing a great contrast between two very different defining and important parts of the 1980s as a decade.

It's not a massively complicated stage, however. The border wall between Arstozka and Kolchecia is where you fight - in front of it, at least. The crowds of people around you will take some interest in the battle taking place, as will the conveniently placed snipers in the form of a stage hazard. The background also has a lot going on - you'll see a lot of events that can happen in the game taking place, such as illegal border crossings, people being escorted by armed guards, and the various investigations taking place in the passport office. Overall it's quite functional, simple, and practical - despite being grey, oh so grey.

Before I get into today's jobs, I do have some announcements to make.
  • I've decided that All-Star Strife will be taking a brief hiatus once Jacket's content is complete. I go back to school next week and wanted to take some time to get adjusted to my new schedule, but I didn't want to start working on the eighth DLC fighter and then have to put the thread on hiatus in the middle of that. As such, we'll be taking a 1-2 week break from the thread once Jacket is finished. Once I do return, there will be a schedule change - Jobs will now be updated later in the afternoon (roughly 4-5 PM EDT for the most part). Hope you all understand!
  • In a bit of lighter news, I've kinda been messing up the job counts. In a bit of course-correction, today's jobs will start with #260. Sorry for the confusion!
----
Job 260: Submit Jacket's super moves!
Please submit three super moves for Jacket.

Job 261: Submit animations for Jacket!
Please submit a stage intro, three taunts, and/or three victory animations for Jacket.

Submissions close tomorrow afternoon!

Stage Votes
  1. Lust (I mean, we already deconfirmed V1 - Might as well throw Ultrakill fans a bone.)
  2. Lava Factory (haha funny miner girl game go brrrrrr)
Shout-outs to Hotel Murdower - While I'd love to see it get in as a stage, Zero himself has been a fairly popular contender for a DLC fighter in terms of submissions, so I'd rather hold off on adding Murdower in case Zero does get in one of these days.

(I'd just like to start by saying on behalf of literally all of us that it's 100% fine to put it on hiatus, school's much more important and I think I can safely say we're all glad that you're putting your studies first - hope it goes wonderfully for you!)

In terms of voting,

1. Lust. Echoing the sentiment from FazDude, I think it'd be nice to give ULTRAKILL some representation given that V1 isn't "joining the strife." Also I really like the design and the colour palette, especially the low-resolution textures. Gives it a really cool feel.
2. Lava Factory. I think it's a good chance to finally give Annalynn a stage, and I just like the mysterious and spelunking vibes of it, set deep within a cave. Also, I'm a Pac-Maze enjoyer so there's that :yeahboi:

Okay so when it comes to Jacket's super moves, I have next to no idea what to do here. However, I do think I know what Jacket's intro could be - he simply pulls up in his car from the background, stepping out with murderous intent as the car, uh... vanishes into thin air. It'd be a reference to the "intro" of every level in which Jacket starts from, and returns to, his car at the beginning and end of evey level. That's about it though I'm not sure what else sorry about that

Damn, today's a good day to be KneeOfJustice99.

If any of these jobs don't have any submissions before tomorrow afternoon (sans 262), I'll submit some myself.

I decided to add music of Return of the Obra Dinn, made by the same author. Mostly because there aren't that much themes in Papers, Please and most of them are remixes of the main theme

Job 263: Submit a boss for Jacket to fight!

Job 264: Submit a Signature Item for Jacket!

Job 265: Submit up to three characters from Hotline Miami to become cards!

Jacket will be a card by default.

This will be our last set of jobs for Jacket. I know I said that the thread would go on hiatus after Jacket's content was finished, but since my main concern is leaving off the thread in the middle of a character's development, I'd be fine with nominating/voting on our eighth DLC character and then putting the thread on hiatus. Would anyone be opposed to this?

Either way, submissions close tomorrow afternoon!

Job 263:
I'm going with Risky Boots. Jacket's whole deal is brutally killing criminals and Risky Boots is a pirate, the coolest type of criminal.

Job 264:

THE UZI
Not the most iconic weapon in Jacket's arsenal, but is the weapon he's shown holding the most in promotional art and in the Payday 2 HL expansion. It'd be a fast firing gun that you can choose the direction of. It deals a decent amount of damage, but will eventually run out of ammo, after which it vanishes. When Jacket uses it, however, he'll dual wield two of them, increasing the amount of damage the uzi deals. It also allows Jacket to attack both in both directions at once, covering more ground at the cost of limiting his movement.

Job 265:
  1. The Son
  2. Manny Pardo
  3. Girlfriend

Going with The Father over Biker and Richter, due to them being pretty good candidates for a second Hotline Miami rep.

A few things; Most of these are on me for not really clarifying, but a few things you should know -
  • When I asked for a boss, I was referring to one of the eight bosses we added in the past. You can check those out on the initial post. As such, the Father won’t be accepted since that’d be an entirely new boss.
  • The Uzi as a Signature Item is fine, but it should have some perk exclusive to Jacket when he uses it.
  • The Beard and Biker have already been nominated. All cards submitted are added by default, so you’re free to submit two other cards.
Hopefully I’m not coming off as too harsh - I’m thrilled you’re contributing, and again, I shoulda been more specific with what I was looking for. On the bright side, you still have a lot of time to make changes!

And with that, Jacket's content is complete! As I mentioned before, the thread will be going on hiatus for a brief period - I'm expecting it to return sometime in early September. Before that, though, I have one final job...
Job 266: Submit a fighter + stage for DLC Pack #8!
Please submit a fighter and a stage from their series to appear as the focus of our eighth DLC pack! You aren't allowed to submit the character you submitted last round, but every other (non-deconfirmed) character is on the table!

Resubmitting Dart Monkey + Sky of Bloons.

Fighter: Dart Monkey (Bloons)
View attachment 357394
I think I've held off on this for long enough.

Dart Monkey is one of the many monkeys found in the Bloons franchise, debuting in the 2007 original and becoming the de facto mascot of the series. This ape only has one thing on his mind - throwing darts to pop Bloons (no relation to balloons, mind you). However, you can also upgrade him to gain access to other abilities. While I think that alone would make him an interesting character for All-Star Strife, we also have the lineage of other towers and items from the Bloons games, which could lead to a ton of moveset potential!

Stage: Sky of Bloons
View attachment 357395

Sky of Bloons is an autoscrolling stage based on the original Bloons games, featuring platforms of Bloons for opponents to stand on and fight across. It's a fairly simple stage, but we don't have too many autoscrollers so far, so I think this could be a fun concept for a stage!

(also while i'm talking about bloons and platfighters please check out bloons blowout we need more contributors)

OK, this is going to be my bias pick for the game...
Job 220:
Normal Cat (Battle Cats)
View attachment 356867
Who is that cat?
Normal Cat is a normal cat unit from 2011 japanese tower defense mobile game "Battle Cats" made by indie game company PONOS Corp. and it's a first cat from the game.
Normal Cat can evolve by upgrading it with XP points and the evolution ranges from normal form into evolved form and later true form.

In Battle cats, you have to deploy the cat units by buying them from 2 slots to attack the enemies and defend the base from them. The story in this game shows that the cats want to take over the world (and also moon) in Empire of Cats mode, then they want to conquer it again by fighting alien enemy units in Into the Future mode and the last mode shows them conquering the whole universe.
There also Legend stages and Catclaw Dojo modes aside from the story-related ones.

Battle Cats is kinda niche game nowadays that people don't tend to talk about, but it was popular when launched on mobile devices and many youtubers played it.
Normal Cat could be another character who originated from mobile games and

How he could work?
As you see, this round cat has ton of moveset potential for indie fighting game, since there are many cats to use as his moveset for this game. He could turn himself into Titan cat as down smash or become a Welterweight cat to do his jab attack for example.

He could have a unique neutral special, where he deploys random cat units to attack the opponent or defend itself from attacks. The neutral special is also accompanied with a gimmick, where he gathers the money to buy the randomized units from the slot that appear on his UI. If it runs out of money, it can't use the neutral special.

One of his super moves could summon Cat God who could heal him, push the opponents far from him or strike down opponents 3 times with his electric powers.

Stage Submission:
World tour (Battle Cats)
World Tour stage would be based on Empire of Cats mode, where the cats fight enemies in random countries or cities like Korea or New York City for example.

The layout of the map would be medium walk-off stage with cat base and enemy base in background.
The map has a mechanic similar to Minecraft World, where it shows random themes like snow theme or beach theme for example. The themes are randomized.

Here are the locations:
  • Normal theme: Korea
  • Beach theme: Bermuda
  • Snow theme: Greenland

The enemies like Doge, Snache or those guys make a cameo in background as they try to attack the base while fighting the cat units.

Resubmitting Dart Monkey + Sky of Bloons.
Some may say that this goes against the thread's resubmission rules, as Faz is resubmitting his own sub and not someone else's. However, Fazdude's enthusiasm for Bloons Tower Defense is so high that it counts as 2 different people. (You do not want to know how many people his enthusiasm for Annalynn counts as.)

you jest but i didn't submit dart monkey last round so he's still valid :troll:

(yeah fr tho, the resubmission state is kinda "wiped clean", meaning that you're allowed to resubmit any of the first six characters you submitted for dlc. i know it gets confusing but if you're unsure of whether or not something can be submitted let me know and i'll check for you.)

(for the record, the people counted by my annalynn enthuasism probably matches the population of a small country)

Submissions close tomorrow afternoon!
Job #266

Character Name: Gunvolt
Character Origin: Azure Striker Gunvolt (2014)

The protagonist of the Azure Striker Gunvolt series, being one of Inti Creates' most prominent works in the modern era of gaming, Gunvolt is a psychically powered Adept with the ability to generate and control electricity (as his name suggests.) In terms of gameplay, the series has a focus on utilisation of these abilities as well as his gun, which can fire "darts" that allow him to focus his electricity on opponents effectively, as well as the use of this ability with other practical applications such as flight, creating forcefields, and so forth. However, Gunvolt is also quite modular - as shown in the spinoff series Mighty Gunvolt in which he and Beck (from Mighty No. 9, yes really) go on various crossover adventures with other Inti IPs such as Gal*Gun. Not only this, but he's no stranger to crossovers - being a planned DLC pick for Indie Pogo, and having appeared in Runbow and Blade Strangers too.

As for the stage...

Stage Name: Sinner's Row
Stage Origin: Azure Striker Gunvolt (2014)

A stage taking place in the depraved depths of a futuristic city, you'd fight atop a series of rooftops - surrounded on all sides by advertisements, power lines, and only just being able to see the towering 1st Sumeragi behind all of the buildings in the distance. My thought process here is that you could easily sneak in a lot of interesting references in all of the advertisements, even for other games by Inti - such as the Blaster Master Zero series! Not only this, but there's plenty of music from the Azure Striker Gunvolt series to pull from, but a couple of 8-bit tracks from Mighty Gunvolt wouldn't be a bad call!

Juan Aguacate (Guacamelee)

The luchadore protagonist of the Guacamelee games, Juan is a wrestler from a Metroidvania-style series of beat-em-ups. In addition to a variety of wrestling moves that are inspired by animals and allow him to beat up enemies or traverse areas, Juan can also transform into a chicken to lay exploding eggs. (don't think about it too hard)

Aside from his own game (which already has a lot to work with), he's also appeared in crossovers like Brawlout or Runbow, so he's no stranger to platforming or fighting.

Stage: Pueblucho

Juan lives just outside of this city, which finds itself under attack by the forces of the undead over the course of the game. The stage could be a walk-off stage, taking place on one of the multi-floor buildings. Players could fight on the ground, mid-section, or roof, and there could be portals on the upper-left and right of the stage which (if touched by anyone) transport players to the land of the dead, where Skeletons hop around and attack players. (similar portals would also exist in the land of the dead, which would bring players back to the land of the living - the land of the dead would more or less be a darker palette swap, though some of the buildings would look more run-down)
