Struggling to get cosmetics to work.

I have followed two tutorials so far to an absolute T.
Both had me edit the sc_selcharacter.pac
My goal is to change the cosmetics of a shadow clone.
I'm not using project m. Just plain old smash.
The two videos I have watched are

I am using a Shadow the hedgehog mod.

The issue is every time I try to edit the cosmetics through the above tutorials instead of displaying the Cosmetics I just added, It displays the random logo in the character select screen. When I place my cursor over it the entire game freezes. I just want to get the cosmetics to work.

Need some help again? Alright send me your sc_selcharacter.pac so i can see what exactly is wrong (there are far too many reasons for a CSS crash) and if possible the specific BrawlEx config files for him.

Also, how good is this shadow? I want one for my modpack but it isn't very good.

Okay so this has the mod in it as well as the file. I did not use any of the common 5 or common files. I merely used them to extract the portraits, and anything that wasn't already there to manually install... I wasn't sure if I should use the common files in the mod. Since I was trying to apply this to a new character and those seemed to outright replace sonic the hedgehog.

Also I think the mod is great! His final smash is a bit op but overall great mod.

First of all you need to remove the "_en" from sc_selcharacter_en.pac, otherwise i don't know what to tell you, everything looks correctly set up.

Just to be 100% sure, you set Cosmetic40.dat's byte located at 0x20 to 7A, right?

Yup... So maybe its just the en. Ill give it a shot.

Now just clicking on brawl makes the game freeze.... oh boi
