Stage counterpick and ban discussion

But... I love the banana throwing matches with Diddy on FD! I wouldn't ban it out of pure fun, lol.
But I guess it does technically make sense... Even if sonic deals with bananas pretty ok.

I dunno, ever since the Mr 3000 vid against diddy, I like picking lylat against diddy, lol.(That match was just so epic with the music and all, lol).

Also, I never played on frigate much till recently, and I actually like it quite a lot now, especialyl since the stage killed a lucario I couldn't kill with my fsmashes, when the stage flipped over, LOL.

i think this is one of the few times where listing the three pokemon seperately would be advantageous.
it seems that everyone who plays PT is best with one of the three, and if you know you are going to have to fight one of them more than the others it would sence to specifically CP that one poke.

as such i nominate Corneria to CP charizard
and Frigate to CP ivysaur

Does anybody have any suggestions for stages to ban or counterpick against Snake?

i try to CP FD vs snakes. granted the ones i play against are all pretty horrible with C4 tricks, good ones can be a nightmare to deal with (or so people say about me :p) on strages like frigate, yoshi, lylat when a c4 on the platform is not only near impossible to see, the blast zone often encompasses the entire thing to the sides and below it

Yeah, I do remember the c4s being near impossible to see on Lylat...
I also agree with KID on the Corneria CP for Charizard. On the right fin, I'm almost positive you can pin him against the wall with jabs...or the Charizard had really bad DI, lol. That was probably it :p

Ban Rainbow Cruise right against metaknight, it is NOT a counterpick. Also, maybe ban Defino? I mean, all of the platforms being able to be hit through+meta knight's aerials+meta knight's recovery? =/ Iunno...
Also, be careful about stages with walk-off parts against yoshi because his CG could kill you with them. :(

search counterpicking at a glance and you should find the best thread for this topic. ive been posting there rather regularly

its better than this one. cause it includes opinions from all the character boards

Anybody have any CP's for Ike while we're on the subject?

Does anyone think it'd be better to determine stage picks in the matchup discussion and just update here?

Jungle Japes is supposedly Ike's worst stage...once he gets in the water, he's almost as good as dead. If Japes is banned, you could probably with something like Yoshi's Island (Brawl). Ike sometimes has what we call "the blastoff glitch" on the slanted sides which will send him flying to his doom. Not only that, but Sonic can walljump easily for an extra boost of recovery. Edit: That's just the basic stuff, get more technical and both you and Ike won't be getting Star K.O.ed anytime soon, and the blastzones on the side are really close, so maybe you two won't have too much trouble getting back...however Ike might be able to kill you faster with this method, but I guess Sonic isn't an (H)Edgehog for nothing There's also a platform in the middle to which you can switch up your game from there. Oh hey Sonic will be able to score K.O.s faster here with stuff like Fsmashes, Dsmashs, and Boxobairs, which really makes up for his lack-of-kill moves.

Anyway I think this thread should be for character specific stage CPs while Camal's thread can just be used as a general stage description mixed with a little bit of Sonic bias in there, like what he can do/can't do, why is he good/bad in the stages, etc.

Oh Don't take Ike anywhere where he can platform-abuse. He has his Utilt, which is 2nd in power only to Snake's Utilt, not to mention it comes out really fast. Usmash works as well. Finally Ike's Fsmash can actually reach just a little bit above the floor of the platforms, although that shouldn't be getting you too much, but nothing you shouldn't disregard either.

That's just his Ground moves, mix that up with Bair which is very fast and powerful, Nair sticks out for a while and auto-cancels, Uair is kind of iffy but is still there, and his Fair covers the whole platform as well as some IASA frames and undiminished is a powerful move.

Hows about taking Pika to Battlefield? Worked pretty well for me. Increased aerial game + lack of Thunder spam = me happy.

Alright, is it just me, or is ROB a ***** at Rainbow Cruise? I usually don't mind this stage and sometimes counterpick it myself, but against ROB I feel like I MUST ban because he is just too annoying and too good there. I was playing a ROB and he camped underneath the platforms on the opening ship. If I tried to aerial approach, the low platform would usually mess me up because of the strange stage shape and ROBs body, so I would get punished, and If I do a dash attack, I go by him and get D-tilt locked >_>
Not only that, you are FORCED to approach at that spot because he can stand there and throw gyros and fire lasers all he wants, then pretty much destroy any other approach you come up with (it seems to me anyway) I played this guy like 5 times there because I was just god awful, and I finally beat him the last match by avoiding him as much as humanly possible on the ship, and on the rest of the stage, I would just run around and try to approach below him with a uair or fair. It was a long match.

Oh, and for the d-tilt lock, I find if I smack both the joystick and c-stick away from ROB, It kinda pushes him away and I can break out sometimes...but I still eat anywhere from 30-60% damage.

Any advice or do I just suck?

airdash should be able to hit him. I think he's tall enough.

Yeah. And if you stand on the back of the ship (corner) and do side-B, you'll airdash. And nothing can break an airdash >_>

I've just messed around with its actual application more than most people.

People are like "oh lol airdash, useless XD"

while I'm like "oh sweet, free invincible approach"
