This is the top 20 SSBB ranking that has been devised by a panel of brawl players. The group consisted of Ironwolf (a smash and FGC tournament organizer in Atlanta, GA), KVLT, (A commentator and community leader) Gardex (A tournament organizer representative for brawl from Norway for Europe), Luigisama, (A Brawl player from Tristate) and Mikeray4 (A top Brawl player from New England).
The rankings are based on both wins and placings in big brawl tournaments from 2016-2017. The tournaments used were
S Tier: Super Smash Con 2016, Super Smash Con 2017
A Tier: Get On my Level 2016, Get On My Level 2017, CEO Dreamland
B Tier: Revival of Brawl, Garelaf 11, Garelaf X
Each tournament's tier level is defined by the amount of entrants and the skill level of each entrant in attendance.

This type of criteria was used to avoid bias on who placed where on the ranking and to get an accurate ranking since there was a lack of brawl tournaments between 2016-2017. We also decided to use tournament results from Europe since there are brawl scenes in parts of Europe and we feel they deserve recognition for their performance. Unfortunately, it is hard to gauge skill between players from the US vs EU because any opportunities to compete against one another is not always possible. Lastly the tournaments in 2017 outweigh the ones in 2016. The reason being that player's performance changes time from time and 2017 results are the most current.

Aside from the top 20 rankings itself we have also included a Honorable mention list to highlight the players that just missed the cut for making it onto the list and highlight players that help the community.

Honorable Mentions

Chibo: A Name well-recognized by many veterans of the Smash Community Mark “Chibo” Korsak is the owner and founder of Clash Tournaments, a streaming contributor to the Smash scene. Always an advocate of Brawl, Chibo has shown that he is no slouch at the game, with 4th place at Revival of Brawl, and an impressive 17th place at Super Smash Con 2017.

Figy: An-up-and-coming name to the Smash scene, Tanner “Figy” Trzepacz has actually been a long-time member of the Brawl community. Figy had previously made a name for himself as a Falcon main, and his Combo video “Innovator” has been seen by thousands. His recent transition to a ROB main earned him 13h at GOML 2017, 7th at Revival of Brawl, and 25th at Super Smash Con 2017.

Bike: Currently ranked Number two in Norway, Aksel “Bike” Arntzen is known for his unorthodox Snake play and his reputation as a tech skill monster. Bike’s ability for tech skill and theorycrafting have opened up a new world of playstyles for Snake. Bike is also far more than a theorycrafter, as his Brawl skills earned him 2nd at Garelaf 10 and 3rd at Garelaf 11, two of Norway’s largest Brawl tournaments.

Gardex: Norway’s current third best player, Astrit “Gardex” Mehmeti is a true community leader, running side events for Brawl at nationals across Europe. Apart from being an excellent tournament organizer, Gardex’s Game And Watch is also a top tier threat, as he placed 3rd at Garelaf 10 and 2nd at Garelaf 11, both of which were TO-ed by him.

SSBB Rank Top 20

20. Gagga: The undisputed King of Brawl in Norway, Geir “Gagga” Nysveen is currently ranked number one in the country. Although Gagga tends to keep to himself, he remains eager to retain his throne, and his dual mains of Snake and Meta Knight hold an iron grip on the title. Gagga remains undefeated at every tournament he has attended, placing 1st at both Garelaf 10 and Garelaf 11.

19. Pelca: One of the former “Big Six” of New England, Joshua “Pelca” Bedoya’s Falco and Meta Knight earned him a spot in the 2014 list of Top 100 Brawl Players. Although Pelca now mainly focuses on Smash 4, his skills in Brawl successfully earned him 25th at Super Smash Con 2016 and 9th at Super Smash Con 2017.

18. Meekspeedy: The Canadian speedster, Ben “Meekspeedy” O’Conner, was known as one of the best Brawl Sonics, showing massive potential in an under-utilized character. Meekspeedy returned to Brawl in 2016, after his retirement from Smash 4, and has once again reclaimed his throne as a top-level threat, by placing 9th at Get On My Level 2016, 4th at Get On My Level 2017, and an impressive 13th at Super Smash Con 2017.

17. Mr. R: One of the greatest Brawl Marths of all time Ramin “Mr. R” Delshad was the king of Brawl in Europe during the game’s glory days. Mr. R revolutionized Marth’s play, and was a top-level contender. Although Mr. R mainly chooses to focus on Smash 4 currently, his abilities in Brawl have not diminished, and earned him 7th place at Super Smash Con 2017.

16. Hinkage: The younger brother of Mikeray4, Dan “Hinkage” Ray has been on an impressive tournament attendance streak, and his Meta Knight has made him a formidable threat. Hinkage’s expertise in the Snake matchup is unsurpassed, and it has allowed him high placings at almost every tournament he has attended this season, the most impressive of which being 3rd at Get On My Level 2017, 13th at Super Smash Con 2016, and 25th at Super Smash Con 2017.

15. Cody: An enigma from New England, Cody D, formerly using the tag Quest, appeared on the New England Power Rankings in 2013, before retiring to the online scene. Cody made 1st one season on Allisbrawl, and currently holds the undisputed number one spot for Brawl on Anthers Ladder. He returned to the offline scene at Super Smash Con 2017, and made an explosive entrance, beating long reigning champion Nairo in a set, and going on to net an impressive 5th place at the tournament.

14. Ally: One of the undisputed gods of Brawl during the game’s height, Elliot “Ally” Carroza-Oyarce was one of the best Snakes in the world, and the only winner of two Apex Series tournaments (2009 and 2015). While Ally’s rise to prominence in Smash 4 impacted his Brawl attendance in 2017, and thus his overall ranking, his performance remained impressive in 2016, with 1st at Get On My Level 2016 and 7th at Super Smash Con 2016.

13. Atomsk: Trevor “Atomsk” Hirschen was one of the best Dedede mains throughout the height of Brawl and maintained an exceptional record against many top players. Although he now chooses to focus his efforts on Melee, Atomsk proved that he is still a consistent threat in Brawl with back to back consistent 9th placings at Super Smash Con 2016 and Super Smash Con 2017.

12. Mew2king: Jason “Mew2king” Zimmerman needs no introduction, as an undisputed god of the Smash series as a whole. In the early days of Brawl, his Meta Knight made him the undisputed best in the world. With Mew2king’s re-focusing on melee, his grip on the number one spot loosened, and in 2016-2017 his low attendance of tournaments impacted his rankings. With 9th place at Super Smash Con 2016 and 5th at CEO Dreamland, Mew2king shows he is capable of higher rankings with more consistent attendance.

11. Rich Brown: The Olimar main from SoCal, Rich Brown is well known for his love of Brawl and his dedication to music. Although Rich now focuses mainly on Smash 4, he maintains his ability to perform at top level in Brawl, with a 7th place ranking at Super Smash Con 2016, 9th place at Super Smash Con 2017, and 17th at CEO Dreamland.

10. Seagull Joe: Known as the best Wolf main in Brawl, Joe “Seagull Joe” Raucher took Wolf to consistent top placings at nationals, demonstrating his skill with the character in a way few others have. His placings this season truly showed his skill as a player, with an impressive 4th place at CEO Dreamland, 9th at Super Smash Con 2016, and 13th at Super Smash Con 2017

9. Mikeray4: Another of the “Big Six” of New England Mike “Mikeray4” Ray retired from competitive Brawl after Apex 2014 to focus on work, before finally making a return to Smash at Super Smash Con 2016, where he placed 13th. Now head of the crew “PPG”, Mikeray4 has become an essential part of the Brawl community, and his Snake remains an ever-looming threat at events he attends. He also placed an impressive 2nd at Get On My Level 2017, 3rd at Revival of Brawl, 7th at CEO Dreamland, and 9th at Super Smash Con 2017.

8. Player-1: The banana technician, Hunter “Player-1” Rodgers was one of the best Diddy Kongs in Brawl, and is known for his highly technical banana play, and mastery of the banana infinite. His unique playstyle has allowed him to make some astonishing upsets, and his recent retirement from Smash 4 will hopefully allow him to increase his Brawl tournament attendance in 2018. Player-1 placed a consistent 5th at Super Smash Cons 2016 and 2017, and 13th at CEO Dreamland.

7. ANTi: Jason “ANTi” Bates is a long-standing member of the Brawl community, where he consistently placed top 8 at multiple tournaments during the game’s height. ANTi’s unique playstyle with Meta Knight made him a national threat, and his skills in Brawl remain impressive despite his focus on Smash 4. This season, ANTi placed 1st at Get On My Level 2017, 3rd at Get On My Level 2016, and 4th At Super Smash Con 2016.

6. MVD: One of the best Brawl players from Florida, Jestise “MVD” Negron’s unique Snake made him a top-level threat. His technical usage of C4 and grenades set him apart from many other Snakes, and his unorthodox playstyle make him unpredictable and exceptional. Although MVD’s main focus is now on Smash 4, his love for Snake and Brawl are reflected in his placings, with an impressive 4th place at Super Smash Con 2017, 5th at CEO Dreamland, and 17th at Super Smash Con 2016.

5. V115: One of Canada’s biggest threats, Vishal “V115” Balaram’s Zero Suit Samus is a testament to the mental intensity of Brawl. V115’s strong punish game and neutral set him above many players on this list, and his consistently high placings are an indication of his skill. Although absent for several tournaments later in the season due to other responsibilities, V115 has the most consistent rankings of any player on this list. Sadly, V115 has yet to grasp a 1st place championship at a national. Perhaps 2018 could be his year? V115 placed 2nd at Super Smash Con 2016, Get On My Level 2016, Revival of Brawl, and CEO Dreamland.

4. Vinnie: A threat that cannot be ignored, Vincent “Vinnie” Cannino is currently the best Ice Climber main in the world. Even with his shift in focus to Smash 4, Vinnie is still a looming threat to any Brawl tournament, as shown by his first-place victory at Super Smash Con 2016. His mastery of the Climbers is currently unmatched, and his skill at their chain grabs will always make him a top contender. Vinnie also placed 7th at Super Smash Con 2017.

3. Salem: The Apex 2013 champion, Saleem “Salem” Akiel Young is widely considered one of the gods of Brawl, and his skill with Zero Suit Samus is currently unmatched by any other player. Although Salem has become one of the best Bayonettas in Smash 4, Salem remains a god of Brawl, with consistently high placings at every tournament he has entered, such as 1st at Revival of Brawl, and 3rd at CEO Dreamland and Super Smash Con 2017.

2. ADHD: One of the Gods of Brawl, Wyatt “ADHD” Beekman is considered the best Diddy Kong in the world, with his banana usage and strong punish game making him one of the best players in the world during the game’s height. ADHD chose not to continue his Smash career in Smash 4 and instead focus on his musical career. Nevertheless, he retains his love of Brawl, and has almost won both tournaments he entered, with an impressive 2nd place at Super Smash Con 2017, and 3rd at Super Smash Con 2016.

1. Nairo: Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada is currently the best Brawl player in the world. Starting his rise to the top in 2012, Nairo became a dominant force during the later years of Brawl, and culminated in his Apex 2014 victory. His highly aggressive playstyle of Meta Knight makes him an unstoppable force, and his symmetry with ADHD in Brawl doubles made them the best doubles team in the world. Nairo has shifted his focus to Smash 4 where he remains a top five player, but his passion for Brawl keeps him at the top. Nairo placed 1st at CEO Dreamland, Super Smash Con 2017, and 5th at Super Smash Con 2016.

Afterward

We want to thank to those on the panel that spent the last several months working on this ranking and trying to make it the most accurate we can. We also want to thank the entire Super Smash Brothers Brawl community that has stuck true to their favorite game in the franchise despite hard times and the unfortunate stigma that has been cast on the game we love.

Thank you all so so much
