Each move has an associated angle that it hits people in, from 0 to 360 degrees. But the game utilises more angles than that, these are the special angles: 361 which is the sakurai angle and 365, 366 and 367 which are autolink angles.
The sakurai angle is an angle that adapts based on the opponent’s percent. At lower percents the angle will be 0, and then scale up to 40 degrees. The shift in angle starts when the move deals 60 units of knockback, and linearly increases to it’s max at 88 units of knockback. If the move hits an aerial opponent, no matter the knockback dealt, the launch angle will always be 45.26 degrees.
Autolink angles are meant to help moves connect better with each other, they come in three variations: 365, 366 and 367. When an opponent is hit by an attack with angle 365, the knockback angle will match the movement of the attacker, additionally if the move causes knockback into the ground the move will cause stationary grounded hitstun. Angle 366 pulls opponents towards the user’s centre in addition to matching the movement of the attacker. If the move hits a grounded opponent, it will lead to upwards knockback. Lastly, angle 367 mixes the properties of the other two: it pulls opponents towards the centre of the attacker, as well as matching movement, and hits that have downwards knockback can cause stationary grounded hitstun. Additionally the 367 angle has no cap on knockback.
An example of a 365 angle move is bowser jr’s dair (but only part of it).
An example of a 366 angle move is pit’s fair hits one and two.
An example of a 367 angle move is ryu’s upair hit one.
