(The way I've envisioned it, the trainer basically ended up doing something similar to what Red did in Gen II, isolating himself from the public, his family, and focusing entirely on training and battling in some remote wild location. Except in this case the isolation only brought out the worst in the trainer, turning him into a stone cold, emotionless blood knight who was cruel and ruthless in battle, and distanced himself from his own Pokemon.)
