Some capture card advice w/ old PC?

So I've been trying to record some Smash 64, and Melee footage with my old Emachines Windows XP computer, and my Dazzle Capture Card. Is there capturing software that doesn't constantly drop frames, and destroy my computer? I'm looking for at least 360-480p quality, not much to ask. I currently use AmarecTV, but I don't think my video codec is very good.
