More often than not, I usually hear people say to play through Seasons first, and then Ages. It's been several, several years since I played the games; but I am pretty sure that's the order I went with as well. Seasons is more action-based, whilst Ages is more puzzle-based; and imo Seasons is easier of the two. The majority of the decision really falls into preference from my pov; but I think you should play through both first, eventually!

I played Ages first, because that's what I had at the time. I got Seasons, later. Personally, I think it works well to play Ages, first, to kind of get the hang of moving between similar realms (Past and Present). Practicing with only two will prepare you for moving between four seasons in order to reach treasures or dungeons. That's just what worked for me, though. Have fun!

Honestly from what I've played, Ages is a lot more...intense. I completed Seasons and found it pretty lighthearted in comparison. Keep in mind that the one you complete LAST will have more stuff in it if you put in the completion code from the one you played first. For instance since I played Ages second it had a section where I rescue Princess Zelda from a pterodactyl monster, traversing upwards Donkey Kong style. I'm unsure what gets added to Seasons if you play it second, but it's worth looking into to see what additions sound more fun.

Ages can be very frustrating, so it depends on what you want to do.

Would you like to prepare for the game with a more light hearted concept? Go seasons first.
Want to get a little frustrated and then cool down afterwards? Go ages first.

I'd probably recommend playing Seasons first mainly because of what the others before me said already. Ages feels a lot more difficult & darker than Seasons, but if you like to start that one first, you can. For me, I started with Ages, but I don't think it really matters much.
