and the controller works but the outside of the shell itself is a bit dirty.

How can I clean the shell itself?

See sections 2-2.4 here. I know that Kadano has put particularly dirty shells in the dishwasher but just warm soapy water and a brush should be enough to clean them thoroughly.

1. Soap and water

2. 91% rubbing Alcohol

3. Acetone/nail polish remover

If 1 doesn't work, try 2, and if 2 doesn't work, try 3. Acetone can take paint off of things so be careful. Prolonged exposure to skin can dry your skin out, but it will not harm you. The emerald controller shouldn't be painted though, it should be just the color of the plastic. It will take anything off. But this is only if it's extremely grimey. 91% rubbing alcohol should be fine.
