The final nominees have been announced for the Esports Industry Awards 2016 and among them, nominated for the award of Console Player of the Year, are three very familiar names:
  • for Super Smash Bros. Melee, Juan "Liquid Hungrybox" Debiedma and Adam "Armada" Lindgren
  • for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Gonzalo "TSM ZeRo" Barrios.
They will all face stiff competition from the eight other top eSports competitors such as Street Fighter's EG Justin Wong and Call of Duty's OpTic Crimsix. We will find out the winner on November 21st with a live event, also streamed on Twitch, at The Brewery in London, England and Hungrybox at least has already stated his intention of attending in-person, given his new freedoms as a full time Smasher.

You can see all the nominees for the multitude of awards and book your own tickets for the event at their website. There are three awards open to public voting but the rest, including this one, will be decided by their expert panel of judges.

I think ZeRo deserves it. He has been a top player in every Smash game he has played and a 54 1st place streak is nothing to laugh at.

Well, that's unfair, why didn't ZeRo get nominated for something like this last year? lol (he didn't, right?)
If this was 2015, ZeRo would deserve the gold hands down, no competition.... (just like his 2015 was)

Zero and Armada are tied and Hungrybox is just 1 vote behind. Honestly, Zero deserves this. He's done amazing this year, and I feel like you have to include last year because for some reason he wasn't nominated for the award last year. Maybe because Smash for Wii U was too new? In any case, the only other person I could see being nominated is Ally and maybe Mango for Melee.
