The Super Mario franchise's 40th anniversary (2025) is fast approaching; it seems like just yesterday that the 35th anniversary happened. Feel free to pitch a game to commemorate 40 years of this long-running franchise! No traditional jobs for this thread.
I'm currently working on a pitch for a Mario Kart game that celebrates the various sides of the Super Mario franchise, including adjacent franchises like Donkey Kong and Wario.
Okay let me slip into my official announcement mode ...
Step into an unexpected alliance in Bowser and Luigi: Mario is Missing. When Mario mysteriously vanishes while trying to save the Princess, the Mushroom Kingdom is thrown into chaos. With no one else to turn to, Luigi must form an uneasy partnership with his sworn enemy, Bowser, to uncover the truth behind Mario's disappearance and save the kingdom from impending doom.
The game kicks off with the Mushroom Kingdom in turmoil as Mario's sudden disappearance leaves it vulnerable to threats. Luigi, determined to find his brother, reluctantly joins forces with Bowser, who has his own reasons for wanting Mario back. Together, they embark on a thrilling journey through diverse and challenging worlds, from haunted mansions and treacherous lava lands to hidden underwater realms and ancient forests.
Players can switch between Luigi and Bowser, each with their own unique abilities. Luigi brings agility, high jumps, and ghost-hunting skills, while Bowser boasts immense strength, fire-breathing attacks, and the ability to smash through obstacles. However it's their mutually abusive team-attacks where they really shine. Combine Luigi's brains and Bowser's brawn to solve intricate puzzles, uncover secrets, and overcome formidable foes. Teamwork is key, requiring players to use both characters' strengths to progress.
As the unlikely pair investigates, they'll cross paths with a who's who of Mario's greatest enemies from the past. Donkey Kong! Wario! Wart! Tatanga! and many others. Bowser is sure one of them is responsible! Probably. While they're facing off against them, they'll also have to deal with a series of imposters each claiming to be the real Bowser and taking command of the King of the Koopas armies. (The fake Bowsers will be based on the various off-model Bowsers we've seen previously, such as the more fierce looking Mario World Bowser, the cartoon's King Koopa, original NES style, and maybe even the live action guy!)
Meanwhile, Daisy has convinced Peach and Pauline to set off on a Final Fantasy X-2 meets Charlie's Angels style rescue adventure of their own!
Finally, after a long adventure traveling from world to world, Bowser and Luigi find themselves face to face with the real mastermind behind the whole scheme!
The very first Goomba Mario stomped in the original Super Mario Bros. He's ungraded himself Cyborg Style and has launched a complicated scheme for revenge!
