Resubmitting Gon
Job 10: Gon Freecss
1637259561926.png

Gon is the protagonist of Hunter x Hunter, one of Shonen Jump's darkest series and in this day and age one of its most popular thanks to the stellar 2011 anime adaptation. Gon is a 12 year old boy who strives to become a Hunter in order to find his father, another famous Hunter, and along the way meets many friends and foes, some of which eventually push him to his breaking point.

Gon is an extremely popular character due to being a unique twist on the Shonen protagonist trope and is a staple of Jump crossover fighters, not missing out on a single one since Jump Super Stars. With HxH's mainstream popularity it would make a lot of sense to include him in a game that's all about anime characters duking it out.

He would utilize Nen abilities such as Jajanken like in his home series.

Shinji Ikari

The main character of Ginax and Hideaki Anno's influenceual mecha series Neon Genesis Evangelion. A young man is who is called by the paramilitary organization NERV to pilot a machine known as an Evangelion to protect the city of Tokyo-3 from the Angels, strange creatures who seek to destroy the world. EVA is hugely influenceual and also has a wide array of spin off material and merchandise, including video games. Shinji's moveset would rely almost entirely on using Unit 1, and he could have skins of Asuka, Rei and Kaworu.

Most of this is copy pasted for a write up I did for another thread. Might submit Jump later.

Job #25: 90's Characters (guess "24" was for costumes)

Yugi Muto (Yu-Gi-Oh - 1996)

I'm letting these two posts from other threads explain this part.

Yugi Muto is the main protagonist of the popular Yu-Gi-Oh! series, acting as the King of Games who's nearly perfect at whatever he's playing and his Yami self being a spirit that lives in the Millennium Puzzle that is just Yugi but cooler (not really but I'm just shortening it, you just need to know Yami is living inside Yugi, they swap control from time to time, and they are great at Duel Monsters).

Reasons to consider adding the two is that Yu-Gi-Oh! is a popular series all around, Yugi specifically has many of the most popular duel monsters in his deck (Kuriboh, Dark Magician, and Dark Magician Girl), having the King of Games in the biggest crossover game sounds legendary, and they could be a very unique fighter with trunk loads of moveset potential. Speaking of moveset potential, the only weakness is that maybe his moveset could be complicated but it could be simplified like Jump Force to where Yugi just uses Duel Monsters because why not.
In Jump Ultimate Stars, and other spin-offs like Jump Force, Yugi fought by summoning various monsters throughout the series to do the fighting for him, along with using spell cards and activating trap cards. I don't see why that wouldn't be the same here; the guy's not much of a fist fighter. (he also summoned a Tamagotchi-like capsule monster and rolled a giant pair of dice to reference pre-card game arcs from the series - yes, there's more to the series than children's card games that everyone treats with life-or-death seriousness)

Yami Yugi, or Dark Yugi, is the spirit of an Egyptian pharaoh possessing the body of a Japanese teenager. When the series began, he subjected criminals and other wrong-doers to sadistic and ironic penalty games, though this dropped off as the series went on. Despite the series finishing in 2004, it has a ton of anime and manga spin-offs, along with a popular card game that (to my knowledge) is still running. He's not exactly a traditional fighting game character, but that could arguably make him more interesting.
Alita (Battle Angel Alita - 1990)

Alita (also named "Gally" in the original Japanese version) is the titular protagonist of the eponymous Japanese cyberpunk manga franchise (originally known as Gunnm), created by Yukito Kishiro and originally published for Shueisha's Business Jump magazine in 1990, though it's currently owned by Kodansha since 2011, having released various sequels and spin-offs such as Last Order, Mars Chronicle and Ashen Victor, even getting film adaptations like Hiroshi Fukutomi's OVA "Battle Angel" in 1993 and an American live-action movie produced by Avatar's James Cameron himself for 20th Century Fox in 2019 (I highly recommend to watch it, even better than Ghost in the Shell).

The story focuses on Alita, a female cyborg who has lost all memories of her past (as a Martian cyborg named Yoko) and is found in the Scrapyard by a cybernetics doctor Daisuke Ido, who re-built and took care of her, naming her after his recently deceased cat. She is the practitioner of the legendary cyborg martial art Panzer Kunst, which leads to her becoming a Hunter Warrior with her Berserker Body, attempting to rediscover her mysterious past and characters whose lives she impacts on her journey,

For her moveset/playstyle, Alita is capable of performing quick and agile, yet powerful attacks thanks to her usage of Panzer Kunst martial arts, skills at Motorball racing sports and her signature weapon, the Damascus Blade. She can use multiple techniques such as Plasma Jet (a dashing plasma-empowered punch), Kumai Sharin Kyaku (a rising handstand/dive kick), Elbogen Blatt (dual forearm blades), explosive Shaped Charge Kick and Palm, Astral Decoys, Hertza Haeon (a poweful palm strike that sends out a high-frequency vibration through the body, dealing massive damage), etc.

Job #26: Movesets

Most of Ryotsu's moves involve him using his pistol (even being able to crawl and shoot while doing so), kicking a tin can or his sandal as projectiles, throwing play cards onto the ground, swinging newspapers or Japanese signs like a bat, spraying a fire extinguisher, etc., much like how he fights in Jump crossovers.
  • Neutral Special: Rocket Launcher - Ryotsu pulls out a rocket launcher out of nowhere and then aims it in-front of him, firing a missile which flies forward before it explodes once it hits an opponent or a wall. Holding the button will make Ryotsu use the firework launcher instead, which makes a projectile fly much faster and do more damage.
  • Side Special: Bicycle Ride - Ryotsu summons his bicycle as he gets on it and starts to ride forward, running over opponents. He can skid to turn around and damage anyone close by, even being able to jump off of it. It basically functions similarly to Wario's bike in Smash, except that it's lighter and a bit faster.
  • Up Special: Helicopter Assault - The move works differently depending on if Ryotsu performs it on the ground or in the air.
    • Ground: Ryotsu pulls out a toy package and starts building a machine gun-armed RC helicopter that will follow him around for a short period of time, shooting opponents whenever he's close to them, acting pretty much like a flying turret akin to Ratchet's Up Circle (Mr. Zurkon) in PlayStation All-Stars.
    • Air: If used in the air, a RC helicopter will appear above Ryotsu as he holds it with both hands and vertically flies into the air before dropping off onto the ground when reaching it's apex distance. Tapping the attack button will make a helicopter fire bullets forward while rising.
  • Down Special: Spin Top Maestro - Ryotsu quickly tosses a small spinning top diagonally downwards onto the ground, as it spins forward like Terry's grounded Power Wave. It's weaker than a rocket launcher, but moves more faster and hits multiple times. Based on one of his past-time hobbies, how he used it to cut an out-of-reach bomb wire in the first theatrical film and utilized as an attack in both Jump fighting games.
  • Ultimate 1: Emergency Attack! Katsushika Tank Team - A military tank drops down as Ryotsu jumps into it and then points forward while shouting "Get out of the way! Fire!", shooting out a quick cannon shell that flies a long distance and then immediately blows up with a large explosion, which does high damage and knockback. Based on one of his Super Attacks in Jump Super/Ultimate Stars.
  • Ultimate 2: Section Chief's Wrath - Daijiro Ohara, Ryotsu's superior and the Section Chief of Kameari Police Box, appears in the background in anger as Ryotsu fearfully looks at him and then cowers down as Ohara yells "You idiot!" with giant stone Japanese letters that read "ぱっかもーん !!" (roughly translated to "Baka mon!") dropping down around Ryotsu, crushing opponents close to him. This move is based on Ryotsu's Victory Burst in J-Stars Victory VS and functions partially similar to Phoenix Wright's "Order in the Court!" Hyper Combo in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
  • Super Ultimate: Rocket Takedown - Ryotsu shouts "I'm not going to put up with this any longer!" as he pulls out his handgun and then fires forward. If opponents are hit, a rocket will suddenly rush into the stage and take both them & Ryotsu as it goes across the street, crashing into obstacles with opponents taking most of the damage. Ryotsu then brings the rocket up into the air, out of range and re-connects the wire and jumps off. Opponents notice the timer at it's last three seconds, in which they can only widen their eyes in shock before a rocket explodes, finishing them off as Ryotsu watches the explosion while floating down with a parachute. This Super Ultimate is based on the climax scene of KochiKame: The Movie.
  • Neutral Special: Moon Twilight Flash - Usagi starts to charge up as she performs a pose while her tiara's red gemstone glows up. When fully charged and the button is released after being held, Usagi will yell out "Moon Twilight Flash!" and unleash a light beam from her tiara's gemstone forward in-front of her, which works like R.O.B.'s Neutral Special, Robo Beam.
  • Side Special: Moon Tiara Action - Usagi picks her tiara and then tosses it forward, turning into a energy disk projectile as it flies in an arc at a decently rapid pace and then comes back like a boomerang akin to Link and King K. Rool's Side Specials. When it hits an opponent, they will be trapped in a halo of light which binds them for 2 seconds.
  • Up Special: Sailor Planet Attack - Usagi starts concentrating as she spins around, encasing herself into a energy bubble as it floats into the air with a halo of light covering it. She will then turn pink and boost herself vertically upwards into the air, with a move's distance depending on charge akin to Hero's Woosh. Much like Sonic's Homing Attack, if Usagi is close to the nearest opponent, she will instead ram into them and cause an explosion.
  • Down Special: Sonic Cry - Usagi kneels down as she bends her head down and then starts crying in despair, releasing a sphere of supersonic waves around herself by the sound of her voice, out of her odango covers. Can push/damage opponents away with low knockback and even reflect projectiles.
  • Ultimate 1: Moon Spiral Heart Attack - Usagi raises the Spiral Heart Moon Rod into the air and then flips it around her body as she rapidly spins in-place, before stopping and holding it up again, starting to send out powerful pink heart blasts around herself in a omnidirectional death blossom attack, which does tremendous damage to opponents.
  • Ultimate 2: Moon Gorgeous Meditation - Usagi pulls out her Moon Rod and aims it forward as she shouts "Moon Gorgeous Meditation!", unleashing an array of spiraling glass shard-like rainbow light projectiles forward in-front of her that she can angle diagonally upwards or downwards and even trap opponents as it hits them rapidly. Works similarly to Mario's Mario Finale (blast/projectile) and Samus' Zero Laser (angling).
  • Super Ultimate: Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss - Usagi summons her Moon Stick and starts to spin around, summoning a large spiral of light around herself with Moon Healing Escalation. If she catches anyone, Usagi will show the Silver Crystal as it unfolds like a flower and summons the rest of the Inner and Outer Senshi with their own Moon Sticks, thus making her transform into Princess Serenity. They will then attack opponents in a unison attack with their respective moves (Mercury's Shine Aqua Illusion, Mars' Burning Mandala, Jupiter's Sparkling Wide Pressure, Venus' Love and Beauty Shock, Chibi Moon's Pink Sugar Heartache, Pluto's Dead Scream, Uranus' World Shaking, Neptune's Deep Submerge and Saturn's Silence Glaive Surprise) and Usagi finally finishes with Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss, blasting opponents far away.

Third Impact (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
A fairly simple stage with a background like the one in the image. There are some added platforms. Various imagery from the show will appear in the background. Every now and then the stage will shake and green crosses will brush out of the ground to damage fighters.

Both submissions are for a non-Jump side, since there's two (9) less compared to Jump's (11).

Honorable mentions/shout-outs goes to Ken the Eagle from Science Ninja Team Gatchaman and Speed Racer himself for Tatsunoko representation, plus Go Nagai's creations like Devilman, Mazinger Z & Cutie Honey.

Joe Shimamura (Cyborg 009 - 1964)

Joe Shimamura is the main protagonist of the science fiction superhero manga series Cyborg 009, which was created by the renowned artist Shotaro Ishinomori, who also worked alongside Osamu Tezuka as his assistant in some Astro Boy chapters (with a exhibit based on their creations) and considered the father of the modern Japanese superhero genre with other influential long-running series such as Super Sentai (later adapted into Power Rangers) and Kamen Rider, having been published by a few companies such as Kodansha, Akita Shoten, Shogakukan and Shueisha themselves.

The series focuses on nine normal humans, who were kidnapped by the evil Black Ghost organization and converted into super-powered cyborg soldiers through experiments to be used as weapons of mass destruction for the next world war. They later escaped with the help of Dr. Isaac Gilmore, who assists them in rebeling against their leader Skull, banding together in order to fight a variety of threats such as mad scientists, supernatural beings and ancient civilizations, with Joe himself (who was a lonesome delinquent youngster born to a Japanese mother who passed away shortly after giving birth and a father of an unknown nationality) being the most advanced model and leader of the team, 00-Cyborgs.

The manga itself has ran for long decades through many different Japanese magazines even after Ishinomori's death in 1998, finally concluding in a 2012 manga story called "Cyborg 009 Conclusion: God's War", which was based on Ishinomori's orignal concept notes gathered by his son, Jo Onodera. It also achieved multiple films such as Hiroshi Okawa's two-film long series, the 1980 film "Legend of the Super Galaxy", a 3D film "009 Re: Cyborg" released in 2012, a 2016 CG film trilogy "Call of Justice", anime shows (1968, 1979 and a 2001 series "The Cyborg Soldier" that ran in Toonami), a graphic novel, radio dramas, three video games (like one released on Super Famicom in 1994) and crossovers with fellow manga series; Eight Man and a more famous Devilman (three part-OVA). It was even referenced in numerous media such as Ishinomori's manga adaptation of A Link to the Past.

As the team's most powerful member with all abilities from fellow cyborgs (though Geromino is demonstrated as the powerhouse) thanks to his mechanical body, Joe has a few superhuman powers & abilities such as super-strength, breathing underwater, sensors that picks up electromagnetic waves/dark vision, bullet-proof skin, alongside his trademark ability, the Acceleration Mode, which allows him to increase his speed by an incredible amount to the point everything will be frozen in time and even travel through it/dimensions (though in Anime All-Stars, it will only give him a slight speed boost for a short period of time). It can also be used for teleporting and a dash special, which flashes through opponents and acts as a stronger version of Fox's Side Special in the Super Smash Bros. series. He can also use the Supergun which has numerous settings like a powerful heat ray, poisonous gas, freezer, etc., a psychic forcefield around himself and even call out his fellow 00-Cyborgs for an all-out attack in his Super Ultimate move.

Lum Invader (Urusei Yatsura - 1978)

Lum is the deuteragonist and female protagonist of the manga series Urusei Yatsura, which was written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi for Shogakukan in 1978, focusing on a un-lucky teenage boy, Ataru Moroboshi, after he was randomly chosen by an alien race known as the Oni, who arrived on Earth to invade the planet by giving humans a chance to fight for it's rights by taking part in a tag-like competition, facing against the alien leader's daughter, Princess Lum, who he accidentaly proposed to, after having won a competition (having promised to Shinobu Miyake earlier), making her fall completely in love with him, even though she often violently electrocutes him whenever he flirts with another girl or insults her.

Urusei Yatsura sold about over 35 million copies in circulation and even received the 1980 Shogakukan Manga Award, with it's anime adaptation in 1981 having been credited with introducing the format of using pop songs as opening and closing themes in anime shows. It pretty much launched Takahashi's career, leading into other creations such as Ranma ½ and Inuyasha themselves (like how Dr. Slump started Toriyama's success and creation of Dragon Ball). It even influenced multiple other "geek gets girl" works including Tenchi Muyo! and Love Hina. Lum herself even has her own life-size bronze statue erected at Ōizumi-gakuen Station in 2015 and appearing in clips of Matthew Sweet's music video "I've Been Waiting". A new anime series with Takahashi joining in it's production, is also revealed to air sometimes this year.

Lum would be a floaty fighter with light weight and weak close-range attacks, though she excels at high-damaging zoning techniques such as charging herself with electricity to either shoot lightning bolts, fly in a inputted direction inside the electric aura (as a combination of Pikachu's old Final Smash and Side Special, besides Peach's) or send out multiple super-charged shocks around her by storing big amounts of electricity inside her body (there's three words and stuff's gettin' real - DARLING NO BAKA!), even being able to increase her teeth and horns' size for stronger melee attacks. She would also summon her toddler cousin, Ten, to temporarily follow her around by flying and attacking opponents by breathing fire at them, much like Luma alongside Rosalina.

Lum can also make use of her inventions/devices such as creating illusions to trick opponents, bring inanimate objects or plants to life, use a supernova's subspace fragment as a detonating bomb, change the direction of gravity with G-Con, put enemies to sleep, etc. (most of those stuff came from VS Battles Wiki).

Excel from Excel Saga

This is Excel. Her real name is Excel Excel, but you probabaly shouldn't know that. You know how lots of animes have that one hyper energetic cheerful character that's always trying to get people to do their best and be more interesting. This is her with the dial turned up to 11. Excel is one of two people who work for A.C.R.O.S.S. and it's mysterious, enigmatic, and arrogant (and in Excel's point of view) absolute dreamy leader Lord Il Palazzo. Il Palazzo believes the world has become corrupt and seeks to save the ignorant masses from themselves. To do so, he seeks to conqour the world. Except that's probabaly starting a bit to big. So they will first conquer Japan. And to start conquering Japan they are first going to start by taking over one city.
Excel will do anything for Il Palazzo. Anything. And sadly most of their time her missions end in failure.

As a fighter, Excel is a higher active comedy character, and her moves could easily incorporate her pulling objects out of nowhere and switching costumes for special moves and disguises.

And if you haven't watched Excel Saga, do so. It's hilarious.

Vampire hunter.jpg

Vampire Hunter D

D is a dhampir, a half human-half vampire with the strenghts of both races and the weaknesses of neither. D wanders across a post apocalyptic nightmare world hunting vampires, hoping to eventually drive them to extinction. D's only real companion is the talking parasitic being that's taken over his hand, but even that has granted him additional abilities.

Vampire Hunter D was one of the first big animes every released in English (along with Akira and Ghost in the Shell).

Urusei Yatsura sold about over 35 million copies in circulation and even received the 1980 Shogakukan Manga Award, with it's anime adaptation in 1981 (watch it) having been credited with introducing the format of using pop songs as opening and closing themes in anime shows.

Job 31

How many jump characters should we have and how many non-jump characters should we have

We haven't actually decided on a roster size yet and the angle is to get a large yet feasible roster and splitting the numbers up could help with franchise diversity.

You are submitting 2 numbers for this

I dont known too much about jump (only Yugioh, Jojos and Gintama I think) so I personally will be more confortable with more non-jump characters than jump ones. For the roster, at least at base maybe a number between 30 and 45-ish?,quite big but would give an opportunity for various chatacters, maybe after that 2 or 4 season since, well, is an anime game of course would have a lot of DLCs.

  1. Simon (TTGL is rad af)
  2. The Forgers (I love sxf and I think a trio would be interesing)
  3. Lelouch (Bias time)
  4. Excel (Has far as I known Excel Saga is sort of a parody so would be a fun joke character)
  5. Ryuuko (Bias time X2)
  6. Haruko (Old gainax content is always welcome)
  7. Akko (Would also be funny)
I didnt realized that I could also suggest Shichika from Katanagatari and Ryougi Shiki from Kara no Kyoukai dammit

I was expecting that more characters will be included due the quantity of submissions, but Ryuko and Simon are great options!

My stage submission is the Dai-Gurren from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. The Dai-Gurren team would appear in the stage (including Kamina and Viral).

Job #32: New Stage - Neo-Tokyo (Akira)

Players are fighting in the streets of a futuristic city called Neo-Tokyo, which has multiple searchlights pointing to the sky and high buildings, alongside helicopters flying up there. Shotaro Kaneda's biker gang, the Capsules (excluding him as he's an assist), riding across the streets at fast speeds, wrecking up their rival gang, the Clowns, in a gang fight as a reference to the opening scene. They will sometimes ride in the stage and try to run over players, though a bit slower without turning around unlike Kaneda. Colonel Shikishima's tank will often show up as a stage hazard, trying to blast fighters off with it's cannon, unless it's destroyed by a few strong attacks which causes up a explosion.

For cameos, other characters such as Kaori, Ryu, Kei and Mr. Nezu are shown in the background, watching both on-going chaotic fights in this terrorism-filled metropolis. Sometimes, psychic children called the Espers (Takashi, Kiyoko, Masaru and Akira himself) will make very rare appearances similarly to Liquid Metal Slime in Yggdrasil's Altar.

Stage: Death Weapon Meister Academy from SoulEater

If you got Tim Burton to design a Shounen anime, he probabaly would have come up with something like SoulEater.
The Death Weapon Meister Academy (or Shibusen) is a school for heroes founded by Death himself. Each partner team consists of the students of who wield weapons (called meisters) and their partners who turn into the weapons they use.

As a stage, you would fight on top of a scaled down version of the academy similar to how Peach's castle works.

I'll throw my hat into the ring, because I think there's a criminal non inclusion here!

Gundam (Mobile Suit Gundam - 1979)
Meet the grand daddy of the Gundam series, RX-78-2. But in this case, it will just be referred to as 'Gundam'. It on its own has inspired countless other Gundams on its own! I think it'd only be fair to have the original and most iconic of them all represent the entirety of the series. It also makes a great contrast to another mech wielding character, Shinji Ikari.

This Gundam was developed by Tem Ray, a chief engineer of the Earth Federation. A brave and brilliant civilian named Amuro Ray, the son of Tem Ray is the pilot of this amazing suit. This begins the story of the fight between Earth and the Principality of Zeon!

As for this Gundam's moveset, there's plenty of possibility! Wielding an impressive beam rifle, two retractable beam sabers, and even a forearm mounted shield. Granted, I'd also love to see it's rocket propelled flail make an appearance somehow. You could go on about what its specials could be, or even if you'd like to have a special move with limited ammunition for it's gun. But I think a guaranteed special would be from this Gundam's pilot. Like any great anime protagonist, he has some special bull**** to help him out in battle! You see, Amuro Ray is what is known in the Gundam world as a New-Type. This gives him the power of pre-cognition. This would fit as a perfect counter, seeing as he use it to predict where his enemies will be (A bit like Shulk).

I think Char Aznable is also a very likely choice for this slot, but I'd argue that the original Gundam is much more iconic. And considering we want to get the main series representatives out first, I think RX-78 would make a perfect choice in this crossover.

Ummm.... I'm sorry to tell you this, but while I like the quality of your submission, we're not having a character job right now.

Oops! What current job are we on? This is my first time helping out in a thread with this sort of theme. I could see what sort of ideas I have for building upon what we already have instead. Are we still trying to figure out stages for each series represented currently?
