Job 1: Fred Flintstone (The Flintstones)
1744410007229.png

I think Fred is a really efficient first draft pick for this roster. Historically, he's a precursor to television animation as we know it and the framework that built other iconic cartoons like The Simpsons and Family Guy. Functionally, he provides more of a heavy, blunt physical bruiser character in contrast to Mickey and Bugs likely being more all-rounder types. His caveman essence is easily interpretable into a fun, easily understood moveset. He's immediately iconic and a figurehead for one of animation's most influential studios. I think he's a no-brainer.

I contemplated more contemporary characters to balance out Bugs / Mickey's old school flair, like 90s onward, but I think there are a few meaningful picks from earlier in animation history like Fred here who can serve as the groundwork first much like they've done for the industry.

I'm assuming anime is fair game too? Just clarifying in case, since it's deliberately called "cartoon" all-stars that there could be a divide in understanding here.

Spongebob Squarepants
Our two current picks are both classic older characters, so I think it makes sense to go with something more relatively modern. Spongebob has already been in a fighting game so we have an idea of how he could potentially play, though we will obviously do things differently. I think his personality would make for a fun moveset, and there's plenty we could still pull.from that his previous appearances haven't

Job 1: Woody Woodpecker

Woody Woodpecker is the eponymous protagonist from a cartoon from Universal Pictures and he was created by Walter Lantz, Woody Woodpecker can have a good moveset based on his old cartoons or would be kinda original

Gertie the Dinosaur
Widely considered THE FIRST original cartoon star, Gertie is unique for really only having one short to pull from, one where she interacts with a real life man that isn't even present in the film itself, instead being physically present in the theater. Her short pioneered a ton of animation methods. Even the Disney company, a company that

From a character perspective, she's VERY unique. A massive quadrupled character is nothing to sneeze at, and although she's really only got one short to pull from, I think she'd be a great inclusion.

Job 1:

Popeye. The classic brawler archetype. Probably comes with a boost mechanic once the spinach comes into play.

alright, that is the characters that we have for this job,it's all a great choices

Fred Flinstone ( Louie G. Louie G. )
Spongebob Squarepants ( D darkvortex )
Homer Simpson ( Otoad64 Otoad64 )
Tom & Jerry ( Northsouthmap Northsouthmap )
Woody Woodpecker ( DragonRobotKing26 DragonRobotKing26 )
Felix The Cat ( Qwerty UIOP Qwerty UIOP )
Betty Boop ( cashregister9 cashregister9 )
Gertie The Dinosaur ( MartianSnake MartianSnake )
Scooby Doo & Shaggy ( Mamboo07 Mamboo07 )
Popeye ( TheGipper TheGipper )

vote on 5 on these characters,i will add 3 of them for the roster and your submission can't get on 1st

1. Spongebob (for complete the cartoon big 3)
2. Homer Simpson (for rerpesenting the adult cartoons)
3. Betty Boop (for have a female character on the roster)
4. Scooby Doo and Shaggy (a good Hanna-Barbera rep,and they're very iconic)
5. Felix The Cat (Felix is literally the Pac-Man from cartoons)

-------

The next job is....

Job 2: Submit How Many Characters and Stages It Need

yes,the roster and stages need a number of how many characters for the roster and how many stage does it need it

Job 3: Submit a Title for The Game

1. Popeye
2. Betty Boop
3. Scooby & Shaggy
4. Tom & Jerry
5. Gertie the Dinosaur

Sticking to classics with my votes, avoiding characters that fill the "funny talking animal that usually wears gloves" niche for now, seeing as Mickey & Bugs are both that.

Side note: SpongeBob deserves to be in the game but calling him part of the "big three" with mickey and bugs feels so wrong to me.

Job 2:
40 characters. Maybe a lot, but there's a lot of cartoon history to add, especially if film, anime, and comic-turned-cartoon characters are allowed. Even 30 feels too low. Oh, and 46 stages.

Job 3:
Animation Superstar Showdown!

Job 4:
mickey-fantasia.jpg

Sorcery Cliff
There's a lot of options out there for mickey's stage, but I wanna focus on his magnum opus, Sorcerer's Apprentice. Fantasia is probably the definitive piece of "animation as art", atleast in terms of popularity. It's a piece that deserves to be represented in a game like this, and making it the mickey stage would allow us to represent it without having too much Disney rep down the line.

The stage would be set on a cliffside, with stars and waves swooshing and crashing around. Yen Sid's castle is in the background, as are the walking Broomsticks. No hazards are present, a simple two-plat stage.

1. Betty Boop - A great choice to represent Fleischer toons, and a strong leading choice for female characters which I fear we might have a shortage of early on. I would love to see her join the roster and I think her bubbly unassuming nature would make her a fun fighter.

2. Popeye - An absolute no-brainer, pretty much the defacto cartoon "bruiser" archetype. He'll be on the roster eventually so I say just get it over with.

3. Fred Flintstone - Already explained myself, sticking to my guns here that this is a good establishing choice. IMO a much more compelling and fun choice for a Hanna Barbera character than Scooby and Shaggy, with a more evident gameplan and moveset potential.

4. Gertie the Dinosaur - I considered this too, a wonderful out of the box pick although I wouldn't mind holding off til we get more of the bare essentials in. Still I wanna voice my support for her down the line. She could be a "giant" character and we could use some non-humanoids.

5. Spongebob - Well, duh. I think both he and Homer Simpson should (and will) be here but I'm opting for the Sponge as my pick for more 'contemporary' toon right now on account of his moveset potential. Homer's is a bit more generic whereas Spongebob's is vibrant and writes itself.

Homer Simpson and Tom & Jerry are must-haves at some point or another, but I'm not ready to vote them in yet. Felix and Woody feel like staples too, but I worry that having too many characters adjacent to Mickey / Bugs kind of everyman archetype is something we might run into. Felix gets to be more abstract and Woody much more wild and in your face, but I think they're just a bit too close for comfort for me at this particular moment.
----

Job 2: I'm gonna say 32 characters. I'm inclined to agree with Otoad's suggestion for 36 but just figure I'll throw another option out there. I don't mind keeping things on the tighter end for the sake of really maximizing what we have.

And we can do 40 stages. That'll be enough for every character to have a home stage as well as extra stages for those less equipped to provide or just missing the boat for a playable character.

Easiest way to include a large number of references from the biggest animation studio on earth plus excerpts of old cartoons can be played in the background as you fight on the stage.

Astro Boy
Yet another classic, but I feel it's really important we get Astro Boy in this game. He's a very influential character on a global scale. While guys like Goku are deserving, there's a fear of mine that we'll accidentally leave behind some of the classics that predate all the shonen jump fellas

Job 5: Items
anvil.png

ACME Anvil
The ACME-produced anvils that have appeared in various Looney Tunes cartoons, usually as a part of a "heavyweight gag", with their most famous appearances being in the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote shorts.

The ACME Anvil can be picked up and thrown at opponents, dealing major damage.

Job 6: Anime Character
osaka.png

Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga
One of the main girls from the comedic slice-of-life anime and manga series, Azumanga Daioh.

By far the most unusual of Yukari's students. She was given the nickname "Osaka" by Tomo since she's a transfer student from Osaka, though she only lived there for a year. Much to her chagrin, everyone else starts to call her by the nickname; even the school uses it over her actual name.

I imagine her moveset being like Villager/Isabelle from Smash Bros, using items/objects to fight with.

Job 7: Bugs Bunny Stage
woods.jpg

The Woods
Bugs Bunny is iconic, and one of the most common scenes that come to mind from the cartoons is The Woods where he gets up to shenanigans with Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd.

This stage could have the hole in the ground that Bugs pops out of as a trap door to knock your opponent through, as well as the Duck Season and Rabbit Season signs on trees.

Elmer Fudd himself would be a stage hazard shooting at fighters with his gun.

Job #5: Item - Spinach Can (Popeye/Thimble Theatre)
1744656269432.png

A can of vegetables that holds great power. Once someone eats it, they get a small portion of their health healed and a temporary boost in strength.

Job #6: Anime Character - Kenshiro (Fist Of The North Star)
1744656346842.png

The main protagonist from the anime, Fist Of The North Star. I went for him because FotNS helped inspire some of other popular animes, like Berserk and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Also the anime was the birthplace of the infamous "You're Already Dead." meme.

Job #7: Bugs Bunny Stage - What's Opera, Doc?
1744656137119.png

A location from one of the most popular Looney Tunes cartoons. Occasionally, the shadow of Elmer will rise and thunder will strike the stage, damaging anybody that gets caught in their crosshairs.

(Note: If it wasn't a Bugs Bunny specific job, I would have picked Wackyland.)

the pixar ball is an object used on some Pixar movies, the ball would be used as a common throwing item

Job 6: Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece)

1744658855400.png

Monkey D. Luffy is the protagonist from the long-running anime series One Piece, he is a pirate that stretch his limbs and he is from a crew called Straw Hat Pirates, and it could be good a moveset from him as a grappler

Names:
1. Animation Domination
2. Animation Superstar Showdown

MartianSnake makes a solid point about my suggestion, I was just extremely proud of my pun lol.

Character/Stages:
1. 34 Characters, 42 Stages
2. 40 Characters, 46 Stages
3. 36 Characters, 40 Stages

Mickey Stage:
1. Steamboat Willie
2. House Of Mouse
3. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

Job 5: Chemical X (From the Powerpuff Girls)

When thrown, the Chemical X creates an explosion of energy, causing random effects: it can deal damage, randomly buff the user, or disorient enemies for a few seconds.

Job 6: Sailor Moon

It's Sailor freaking Moon. The face of the magical girl genre and one of the most recognisable names in anime if not animation period. I would imagine a lot of ranged attacks mixed with martial arts melee moves.

Job 7: The Medieval Castle from "Knighty Knight Bugs"

Might as well have a stage that represents the only Bugs Bunny short that ever won an Oscar. Fight in the royal hall as The Black Knight (Also known as Yosemite Sam) rests in the corner. Meanwhile every now and then the green dragon sneezes fire in a wide array which the fighters must avoid.

the winner from the second place, we have a tie, it's Spongebob Squarepants and Popeye, but we need to break a tie here on Strawpoll
I'm a bit confused about this, if Spongebob and Popeye both beat Homer then shouldn't they be #2 and #3? We're breaking a tie for second place (26 votes each) and added the third place to the roster already (24 votes). Correct me if I'm wrong but I feel like Homer missed the boat this round.

i couldn't put two characters on same vote points, so i decide to make to break a tie, the vote result is the winner having more vote points, even the characters have less votes but a little higher

or i can make an example

Character A can have 25 points for being a winner in first place
Character B can have 23 points for being a winner in second place
and Character C nad D can have 15 points but one of them needs to be eliminated

the vote session depends the user that created the thread,on this thread it's just by my choices but even that the other users voted more on their posts

Job 6: Lupin III (Lupin the Third)

1744679276786.png

A master thief and anime / manga icon in his own right, I think Lupin contributes a great deal to keeping our roster full of diverse fighting styles with his thieving techniques and firearms and also represents one of the most historically resonant manga series of all time. Lupin still receives anime adaptations to this day and while his popularity never fully translated overseas, he's a household name in Japan. Everyone so far is pretty toony, or not really a fighter perse, and I anticipate a lot of shonen nominations here so I'd like to break the mold and offer Lupin as an alternative. One with more historical roots who can similarly offer a fun and pretty straightforward premise for a moveset.

Honorable mention goes to Doraemon. I actually think Doraemon is THE anime / manga character to add, and I'l vote them if someone else were to nominate them. But Lupin is not far behind and adds a pretty different flavor to the current lineup.

i couldn't put two characters on same vote points, so i decide to make to break a tie, the vote result is the winner having more vote points, even the characters have less votes but a little higher
I don't really understand why you'd do this, instead of simply taking the three highest voted characters like we've done in similar threads.

You're saying that a character can perform better than another character (say, Popeye - 26 vs Homer Simpson - 24) and still get screwed just because they tied with someone else (Spongebob - 26)? Feels like overcomplicating things and frankly does not feel very fair at all. But it's your thread. I will just be transparent and say if this is the precedent we're setting I might not participate for very long.

i counted how many votes Spongebob and Popeye get it, and the result is both got the same vote number, and i was thinking on change the roster based on the votes by that you said

guys, what are you think?,does Popeye and Spongebob needs to get both joins the roster or just one of them needs to be eliminated for break the tie?

Yeah I didn't really fully grasp what was going on at first, but yeah louie's perspective makes a lot more sense in retrospect. If there's multiple winners and a tie for second or first place it just makes sense to include both and push out the character that is, by all accounts, fourth place. If this were a tie for third place, it'd be another story
