Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

As excited as some of the Ultimate reveals have been, nothing tops the holy **** that is this:

That was the one thing no one saw coming. Well that and Planty boi.

After the Cloud announcement, I sat there in front of my computer screen with a blank face for about a minute wrapping my head around what the **** just happened.

I was more excited about her and her reveal trailer than any other character. And even if she's a semi-clone, she's still a unique fighter, which allows her to have a long trailer than echoes. To me her trailer was very exciting, just in a more tame way. I know that's probably an oxymoron, but it's true. Not every reveal has to be big and in your face and full of energy to be exciting.
It was boring for me because mostly everyone already knew it was for Smash. It just went on for too long. For a fighting game, it indeed should be big and in your face and full of energy. It also didn't have anybody but Isabelle and the mailman, the trailer didn't have anybody else crossing over.

For me personally the thing no Smash can ever top is Snake flashing in during the Ultimate reveal.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, can ever really top that for me. It was just...it was beautiful.
I thought Snake would be gone forever. A few months later and we've got 3 Konami characters. Funny world we live in.

So we are talking Grinch leak again? I was team fake because poster was too good to be true and it was. I didn't rub any salt when it was disproved (I was busy salting about Isaac), but the biggest takeaway is to know that crazy leak can be made and a lack of denial doesn't mean confirmation.

As someone who isn't that hyped about Isabelle, I'd say they timed her inclusion trailer poorly. It didn't do a good job hyping me up since I am not a big Animal Crossing Fan anymore.

But yea, hype is dependent on the person. I am super hyped even though I don't care about any of the newcomers and was Team Real, cause at least I still get to play as Ike, Roy, and Cloud.

Just hoping I get 1 DLC character that interests me.
I agree with the her inclusion being timed poorly, though I would argue that can be said about the reveals as a whole.

The August Direct had many reveals and when you factor in the reveals the final November Direct had, the August Direct and the November Direct should have switched in terms of reveals or lessened them. Isabelle's reveal in the September Direct sticks out like a sore thumb with how unhype it overall was and even Sakurai acknowledged how all over the place the reveals were to the point where he slowed them down to a drought after Isabelle.

I also feel the Assist Trophies were spaced out poorly. The November Direct was the graveyard of many people's dreams due to how many Assist Trophies were held off from being revealed until that point and The Grinch CERTAINLY didn't help matters.

No, what happened was I used the same bait twice and you still fell for it.
I still do agree that Team Fake has every right in the world to laugh at Team Real.
Honestly, I don't believe you.

Maybe you were joking about it at one point, but it feels like that's not true anymore.

And why would you want someone to think you're making real death threats? Does that not strike you as an bad idea?

Honestly, it was about the same length as every other SSBU trailer. It even had the same pacing as the others.

I think what made it come off differently was the presentation.

I remember when I inadvertently called some one out and someone told me that. What I did was just a simple mistake, I meant no actual harm back then, just bad wording, that is all. And I apologized to that guy through PM, too. However, I can see WHY you said that to Anon. He is not being socially...productive for a lack of a better word, no offense to him, but I do think he can do better than this.

No, it is a big deal. We can’t simply pretend it didn’t happen. Otherwise, nothing will change. History will repeat itself.
The people who believed it SHOULD be shamed and insulted so that they don’t blindly believe anything again.
But the thing is, it's going to happen again, even if we tell them they shouldn't act that way again. History will repeat itself. When the next Smash game is announced, and convincing leaks like this come around, people are going to believe it, get overhyped, and then be let down if it's fake. We're human, and it's natural to get excited about stuff that we want to hear. So even if we tell them and tell ourselves to not make this same mistake again, it's going to happen, because that's just how people are

There are people out there who are hyped as **** about Piranha Plant. You can't decide what is hype.

You can however decide what isn't hype though, Isabelle isn't hype, **** Isabelle.
I'm joking of course I like all of Ultimate's newcomers
I think Isabelle would have been better received if her trailer wasn't so boring and the Direct wasn't delayed.

Everyone who has replied to me was on Team Real LOL
Luigi The President Luigi The President wasn't on team real. She may of been not on "team real", but at least she has some human decency, something that you, ThatOneAnon ThatOneAnon , lack.

You seem to want to spread negativity everywhere you go, everytime you post. Can you not be humble and actually be a responsible person instead of being a jerk and wanting people to pick on the people who believed that grinch leak. Oh, Im soooo sorry people wanted to believe that their favorite character wanted in, what a crime.

I get that what a lot of what team real did wasn't good, I understand that, but what you're currently trying to do now: telling people to shame, mock, and harass people who believed the leak, is nearly just as bad as what a lot of team real did. You have no room to talk, you absolute ****ing hypocrite.

Go outside, take a walk, hang out with friends, read a book, do something productive with your live instead of acting like another typical internet troll who wants to get attention by baiting people into replying and trying to talk to you. This is the last time in a long while I'll reply to you, because as much as you wanna deny it, you're a lost cause who can't comprehend that what you're doing is not good or nice.

But for a character like Isabelle it should be calm. Animal Crossing is calm. The trailer, though for Smash, was of the Animal Crossing nature. It was supposed to be calm and not action-packed because that's not the kind of character Isabelle is. The trailer fit for the her and her series

Hypest moments?

Yeah, for K.Rool, I knew once it got to Link/Zelda vs. Dorf. The screen shaking was just me curious, and Mario/Bowser was a set up. But at the Zelda crew, I knew it was villains, and I knew who was coming.

I was also at work so I was trying so hard not to scream out loud.

Also, I was scared to watch at E3, so I waited until it was over and then just checked to see if Ridley was in. And that's where I was the trainer was back, but I didn't look at who else or how many characters were there. Cue me going straight to Youtube to watch, and I was smiling the whole time. I loved the 'Everyone is Here' trailer - I wasn't counting at the time; every character was a 'yeah, makes sense they'd return' or a 'really? They're back?', but once we hit Snake I was shocked. I didn't expect him with Konami's implosion. Cue 'EVERYONE IS HERE' and then PICHU?! OMG EVERYONE IS HERE!!!

I think it's fine for you to be excited for a character you wanted, and I agree that not all trailers have to be exciting. But as a non-Animal Crossing player, if they wanted her trailer to convince someone in my position to become interested in her, then her trailer definitely did not really succeed in that regard. However, I do think Villager's trailer did a better job of handling how to do an understated Animal Crossing reveal. It wasn't super flashy, but it worked.

Honestly if it weren't for all the memes that came about after Isabelle's announcement, I'd probably still be pretty "meh" on her. The memes did more for me than her trailer did, that's for sure.

Man, I would really like a character that does job-changing.
It's such an iconic feature to JRPGs and is extremely specific to FF that I'm really surprised no character has done it.

That said, I nominate Warrior of Light, Cecil, Bartz,Onion Knight/Luneth, or Tiz Arrior for the jack-of-all-trades JRPG character.

Or **** it, give me Terra Branford because she's the most magicky of the FF protagonists.
Wait, no. Ramza Beoulve because he chucks pebbles at people.

Exactly! We are beings built with emotions. As good as they can be, they kind of hinder us from learning from our mistakes altogether, or is there anything additional that contributes to that? Either way, no matter what was learned, Smash fans will repeat this process in regards to the next Smash game when it is time for speculation, whenever that is, especially the newer fans who may be young or did not have anything to do with Smash Bros. Ultimate speculation, thus, were not here to learn from those mistakes. But the kind of fans who will do that aren't limited to those, for it can be anyone.

I mean, considering a lot of what I say is bait, I DO know a lot of it isn’t nice.
But again...you guys are right. I act like a completely different person here compared to how I act on the rest of the internet and real life. I think I’m gonna take a break from this forum for a while. I’ll lurk, but I won’t post. Even if I don’t mean a lot of what I say here, it doesn’t excuse it.

It will happen again because the people who'll get hyped about the next convincing leak will be different from those who were convinced by the Grinch Hoax.

It's fine if you hadn't played Final Fantasy yet, obviously.

I'd say Bombing Mission is one of the most iconic Video Game openings of all time, though. So much so that it was recreated as a tech demo for the PS3.

Nothing tops Simon and Richter's reveal for me, with the amount of detail given about them and the content they brought with them. Ken and Incineroar are a close second.
