Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Donkey Kong - Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong
King K. Rool is awesome, probably the best of the four. However, he hasn't shown up in a main Donkey Kong game for a long, long time. Unless he returns, maybe to finish of the DKC Returns Trilogy... I don't see him returning. Donkey Kong Jr. and/or Cranky Kong would be a cool addition, but I don't see that happening. Of course, Lanky Kong would be the best addition, but that's even less likely than getting a new Wario rep.
Considering he's been highly demanded for years and how popular he is which would probably cause backlash. I can't see Sakurai kutting (Word intended) K. Rool. That and his appearance in Ultimate is likely also a foreshadowing that he'll be starring in DK games again once more since I'd imagine Nintendo will finally acknowledge his popularity.

Other then that though pretty good list.

*A moment of silence*

You seem saddened by the lack of Boshi in Smash
I'll just share this.
Because it just made me explode of laugher after not sleeping at 7am and just staying with y'all all night.
It also made me remember that this exist Against the Disney Nazi

There was a problem fetching the tweet
Thanos to balance Smash confirmed
It's an old post from OrmilleF's twitter/tumblr
If you're a Lyn fan, I highly recommend checking him out.

Word of warning: there's a lot of porn.
You say that like it’s a bad thing

Honestly still curious why we haven't seen Yoshi's final smash yet. I think it'd be he throws a giant egg like the one from Yoshis New Island that bounces around the screen for a little bit

Okay, just to throw out there one more Fluidity thing in Smash:
If the water came to Smash (somehow), it's splash screen (lol, get it? Splash? Heh..) would be: "Fluidity Water Soaks the Competition!"

Probably for the same reason they're keeping the Crafted alt on the sidelines. Maybe reveal the Yoshi content all at once...

Sassy Geno leak was disproven. That's the most important thing you've missed, I believed.
It turns out it was just a really well photoshopped image of a Project M Geno mod.
Ah, so not much important. Just gonna go to sleep then so I can get back on that grind so I can get a switch in time for Smash.

Reasons why I believe Geno is in Super Smash Bros Ultimate:

In Smash 4 as a Mii Fighter, you know what means...
Verge says there is a new Square rep and Geno qualifies as a Square character
You would think we would get new Mario characters, and it would make sense there is another one besides Daisy being added as a echo
There has been other Mario characters deconfirmed such as Waluigi and Toad whom were top choices as well
Geno was chosen because not only is he a Mario character, but he also is 3rd party and is deemed as a very special character many fans want in.

We didn't get a single Mario character in Brawl.

There is no way you should jump to the conclusion that just because he or she had a costume immediately means he or she is playable.

I'm getting multiple sources telling me that Non Specific Action Figure will be the final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate newcomer.

Incineroar, Ken, and Geno were fake leaks planted by Nintendo themselves to hide this unbelievable surprise!

I know you're reading this. Vote 2B.
People be constantly sleeping on the One Winged Angel.

*idly wonders what Isaac's support count is at now*
That reminds me, though.

Isn't it odd how, in the music, the Final Fantasy franchise was labelled as "Final Fantasy VII" instead of just "Final Fantasy"?
Take it as you will, but something about this stuck with me.

Not necessarily saying we're getting characters for Final Fantasy, but perhaps more Final Fantasy music tracks that aren't from FFVII?

That, or the exact opposite and it's nothing outside of FFVII.

It would be very weird to list seperate FF games as seperate franchises, especially if VII only has two tracks. If anything I'd take this as proof that we aren't getting any content from any FF game outside of VII.

Is that a hint you're starting up the Count update?
What I coincidence, I just went to the thread and made a statement about that.

The short answer is "maybe".

The Final Fantasy franchise has been labelled as "Final Fantasy VII" since Smash 4.

It's actually a minor part of the reason I've been pushing for Tifa and Sephiroth (beyond the fact that FF7 is by far my favourite of the series).

Long story short, if we're getting anyone else from Final Fantasy, chances are it's going to be Tifa, Sephiroth and/or Zack (and Zack is only because he'd be an easy clone).

People might want Black Mage, Terra, Squall, Tidus, Lightning or the Warrior of Light, but the series is labelled Final Fantasy VII, and it's unlikely (but certainly not impossible) that that's going to change any time soon.

I've said this before, but every Smash Ultimate newcomer so far was majorly represented in Smash 4 (+previous Smash games), excluding the Castlevania duo for obvious reasons:
  • All had Wii U trophies (including Ken!)
  • All but Ridley had 3DS trophies (as his associated stage was Wii U only)
  • All 4 who had existed at the time were Brawl Trophies
  • All 3 who had existed at the time were Melee Trophies
  • 5/7 were Mii costumes
  • 2/7 were Assist Trophies
  • Ridley was a boss in Pyrosphere and Brawl's Subspace Emissary
For context, the following Brawl characters were trophies in Melee:
  1. Meta Knight
  2. Pit
  3. Zero Suit Samus (technically "Samus Unmasked")
  4. Wario
  5. Squirtle
  6. Charizard (also a Pokeball Pokemon in previous games)
  7. King Dedede (also appears as stage background)
  8. Olimar
  9. Wolf (technically Wolfen)
Additionally, Diddy was mentioned on Dixie's trophy (plus featured in the DK Rap), while Bulbasaur and Venusaur both have trophies that mention Ivysaur.

...and the following Smash 4 characters were trophies in Brawl or Melee:
  1. Villager
  2. Little Mac (Was also a full Assist Trophy)
  3. Palutena
  4. Bowser Jr.
  5. Duck Hunt (Trophy in Melee, Sticker in Brawl)
You will note that exempting third parties and the Miis, this is every character released at the time of each game's release, except for Wii Fit Trainer and Rosalina who both came out very shortly before Brawl's (delayed) release.

With these very-partial-exceptions, no character who didn't even make Trophy has ever been brought on later as a full character.

Why would they cut 2/3rd's of the roster? Or do you mean the next smash?
For some reason a lot of people think the next Smash will be a reboot and cut most of the roster.
I do not think this would be met well at all..It'd honestly be better to just port or build on Ultimate like Ultimate is building on Smash for Wii U..

This is a very interesting post.

I'd say that part of the reason the listed characters got trophies in the first place is the very same reason they were eventually made playable (i.e. they're well known and popular).

This is neat information, but I'm not sure I understand your point.

Are you saying that characters who existed before the previous Smash game won't be included if they were not present in some form?

So essentially every newcomer we're getting, minus a few exceptions from 3rd parties or those that came out in a game sometime late in Smash 4's development or afterward, has already been represented in smash one way or another?

This honestly seems to make sense. It definitely seems to boost the chances of characters like Skull Kid, Geno, Dillon, and definitely anyone from Rhythm Heaven.

Though, this would hurt the chances of the likes such as Bandana dee, making characters like Rayman seem like more likely characters.

I believe this may birth another theory.

Well Lyn's been an assist trophy for a decade now, so I guess that makes her thrice as likely to be in Smash 6!

...Right?
