This is something i've been pondering for a little bit, because i see that most of the tournaments give cash prizes and some organizations sponsor people does this mean there will be a need for people 18+?

You are on the wrong forum.

However, I'll answer your question. The competitive scene is largely run by players. It is up to each player to decide the rules for attendees. Many places do not have an age restriction, although you may see 18+ or 21+ for maturity reasons.

An MLG sponsored event may be 18+ or by guardians permission, due to its Major League status.

I went to a tournament and some of 'em looked like they were 15-16 years old. Most I guess are around 18 though I guess.

You don't need to be 18 to have a job. You might need parental consent. Or you can get emancipated. There's no age limit to endorsing or cashing checks. Of course you need to be 18 or older to open up a bank account but a parent can open one up in the person's name and not allowed to withdraw from it.

And yeah, Mew2King is (or was when his Marth was starting to be come popular) 17.

lol, I don't see how you can call it a job, getting squat for losing and only getting paid for winning isn't a job. It's a game for cash prizes. Not sure how the laws work on that issue, but people used to play video games on TV for prizes so whateva.

i got a bank account when i was 16, my parents just had to start it, but i had full control, 18 is just the age for getting a credit card...

We got lil poison, young *** gonna playing halo games baby. IF toruneys are letting only 18 and older play then were not gonna allow our young smashers to show how good they are. Also if you are making 18+ tourneys then just make it so that 18 and younger can join as long as they got parent concent.

Not that it matters, but I HIGHLY doubt that the competitive Smash community would adopt age restrictions now. I mean we've been playing Melee for years with 15-17 year olds kicking a$$. Why should that change now?

Most companies that run events have release forms, as do the big independent tournaments like the FC series. An adult must sign these for a player to attend, whether they are over 18 or they have a parent sign it for them. However, most smaller tournaments don't bother with that and are insignificant enough to slip under the radar when it comes to gambling and contest laws.

No one should have problems competing if they really want to.
