Smash Bros. Most Wanted First-Party Unique Newcomer Tournament - Round 1 VOTING OPEN - ENDS 10/23 AT 12PM ET

With Smash Ultimate's DLC ending and even though the next game is probably 3-5 years into the future, I think it would be cool to find out who the most wanted newcomers are on Smash Boards. Nimbostratus did something like this for Ultimate before the game was shown off at E3 and now that several big characters have already made it in, I'd like to see where things stand now (and then I'd like to see this tournament done again when the next game is announced to see how things change).

First, I plan to do a tournament for first party unique newcomers and then third party unique newcomers and then echo newcomers.

I'm going to start off with a qualifying round, where you have 100 first party unique newcomers to choose from. In this round, you are essentially picking the characters you want to see in the tournament (which will have either 16, 32 or 64 characters depending on how many votes are cast and where the votes fall). As a result, you can vote for multiple characters in this round. It's actually encouraged. For example, if you want Waluigi, Skull Kid, Dixie Kong and Krystal, feel free to vote for all of them in this qualifying round. Of course it does defeat the purpose if you just vote for everyone listed, so I recommend that people try to limit it to 64 max (not sure if there's a way for me to manually add a limit).

How many votes characters get can also help determine their placement in the tournament proper.

Not sure how long I will keep this up, but I will let people know ahead of time when I plan to cease voting for the qualifying round. I just want to give people an opportunity to vote first.

You can view the qualifying round as an opportunity for us to make a tournament as a group as opposed to just me making the matchups.

I have Kass as BOTW representation (and already included a ton of Zelda characters). Also, if I included Urbosa, I'd feel a need to include the other BOTW champions, which would be too much, in my opinion. That being said, it would be cool if their abilities could be an item or maybe part of Kass's moveset or something like that.

Gumshoe isn’t that obscure mind you. It’s a memorable Zapper NES game from the Black box collection and Mr. Stevenson at least was well known enough to get a support thread here for each entry in the Smash Brothers series since Brawl so he definitely earns a spot there.

Sorry guys, but it seems a little too late for me to add more characters to the list now that nearly 70 votes have already been cast. Plus I already have exactly 100 characters in the poll anyways, which is likely more than enough anyways.

Impa absolutely does not need to be an echo fighter, in the same way that Dixie does not. You theoretically could, but it is certainly not necessary, and as someone who very much wants to see both, I would prefer that both not be echoes if they do ever come to Smash.

I think you're right that it would be late to add characters to this, but it's a bit unfortunate that some options just aren't even there. having an other option, where you fill in a character you would like to see might have allowed for a good workaround in case there is a character with a bigger fanbase that slips through the cracks somehow. Would've like to see Impa, Sami, Medusa, Karate Joe, Mallo, Elma, and to a lesser extent Decidueye as options myself.

The first Digimon media ever was a digital pet, like a Tamagotchi, which appeared on a simple LCD display. If you consider Mr. Game & Watch as originating from a video game, then you should also see Digimon as originating from a video game.

Spoiler: Fun Facts About the Votes

Only 4 characters received absolutely no votes! 2 Zelda characters and 2 Mario characters.
Isaac & Dixie Kong were the only 2 characters to have over 50% of the people vote for them and Isaac overwhelmingly got the most votes (of course this doesn't mean that he'll absolutely win in the end because you were allowed to and encouraged to vote for more than 1 character in the qualifying round).
Most characters were voted on by more than 10% of the people who voted.

So, with all that in mind, I think I will do a 64-character tournament. Since there was a 5 way tie in the end leading to 65 entrants, one matchup in the first round will have 3 choices.

It will also be done via Google Forms. I will post the bracket after I finish compiling the matchups. Don't expect Isaac VS Dixie Kong in Round 1!

So basically I feel like if/when Geno does become playable in a future Smash game, I could even see him not have the Mario series symbol and maybe even have his own symbol. I can even see his music only playing on his stage (plus the Battlefields and Final Destination) and not on any Mario stages.

Oh yeah the VS Mach Rider arcade teased the rider's identity and then the model for Mach Rider made for the Captain Rainbow game was very feminine.

Tin Star was a super scope game on the SNES made by Software Creations and published and trademarked by Nintendo. Tin Star was a robot sheriff in a wild west populated by robots. Game has aged well and is still fun to play today and the music is top notch

Well Mach Rider predates Samus and the text referring to her as male is easily explainable when translating Japanese pronouns. The fact a female model was made for Captain Rainbow should be proof enough as the whole point of that game was revealing things about forgotten Nintendo characters. But to each their own, her inclusion in smash would be canon shifting/cementing.

Plus the good news is Mach Rider is winning the vote handily at the moment!
