Smash Bars?

Hello, I have a friend who says that there exist bars where you can go to drink and play smash/smashed. I have tried searching online for such a holy land to no avail, and was wondering if anyone in the community has any knowledge of such a kick ass bar (hopefully one in the bay area).

Thanks!

I'll keep this thread open for a bit since it is asking about locations and not the actual drinks.

Just keep this thread from turning into that and this will stay open.

Thanks allowing it to stay open, and sorry for infringing on the rules

No problem at all. The rule is only there so that the discussion doesn't spiral out of control, which I've seen happen plenty of times. This thread should be fine though, plus it seems like an interesting subject.

While I've never heard of a "holy land" for Smash Bros., I can believe one exist. Reason being is the Pokémon Bar Crawl that occurs every year the day before PAX East in Boston. I ought to know seeing as I've attended one in 2011. While I won't give details, I will say it was a fun time. It was hilarious seeing the reaction of "normal" bar goers as a huge group of us (about 30 or so I think?) were singing the Pokémon theme song out loud. But I digress.

Man that sounds really fun! I'd love to go to a big pokemon event... the only thing I ever went too was a mall tournament during the r/b/y era

No threads about alcohol allowed? Honestly, seems like a bit of a bizarre rule... applies to drugs as well I assume?

Anyway, yeah, I've been to a bar that had Smash. In my state of Oregon, there are actually quite a few "Barcades", and a few of those set up consoles and TVs. The one in the city I most recently lived in is called Shoryuken League.

Pretty much. I mean, it isn't too bizarre a rule, given the age of most people who frequent the site. It's one thing to discuss and debate their ethics in - say - the Current Events section or the Debate Hall; it's another thing to promote the use of it in any way. That's just what the mods and admins enforce.

Gotcha. So, debating the merits and drawbacks of the legalization of marijuana is okay, but having a thread where people invent different drinks named after Smash characters wouldn't be.

... that's a pity, the second thread sounds fun.
Well, in the vein of not promoting alcohol, let me say that I went to the barcade that had Smash only once because I found it fairly underwhelming. It felt like somebody's dank basement and it turns out that gamers-turned-barkeeps don't actually know how to make drinks.

But I'm sure there are some pretty solid Smash bars out there, who knows.

I've heard that after the Japanese National tournament every summer they go to a bar/restaurant where you can eat, drink and play smash, but that may be set up for them and not be a bar used for that purpose all year round.

What if maybe that your friend, who went into wherever location that had the characteristics of the location that was described, stumbled into television devices that happened to have Super Smash Bros. video game and that the place in question wasn't themed around Super Smash Bros. but generally as what that location would typically be? :ohwell:
