Not sure why but this hasn't been made yet, so I'm just going to get it started. Since the game is still so new, I'm having a hard time finding footage of this character in action. I'll post up the tourney footage I've seen so far, and I'll probably keep updating this as more videos get uploaded. Please feel free to add/suggest videos you've seen or made. This will be cleaned up and more organized soon, but at the moment this should get the ball rolling!

I have some friendlies wifi matches against a friend of mine. Needless to say, my performance wasn't optimal but I do believe it is somewhat of a good take on the matchup, though I was trying to learn it while playing.

Dude, it definitely matters. I watched the first two pretty closely and I think what you were trying to explain to me about using the can for zoning and not as a projectile is starting to settle in for me. It seemed in the match with yoshi you were able to use it more effectively, for some reason it seemed against Ike more difficult. I'm thinking maybe it was because of the platforms, or maybe because Ike has a different style? I'm pretty noob so yeah.

I'm going to watch the others really closely. Definitely keep posting!

Why do you keep uthrowing? Fthrow has actual followups/combos.

In the diddy match you didn't use the can much, and it's important because diddy is all over the damn stage. I saw you had lots of space to set it when you were sent high. And what was with 1:22? Could you not activate the can for some reason?

You were also kind of obvious about your smashes.

Foward throw...? What followups can you possibly receive from forward throw? If you want a go-to throw for followups, use downthrow. Just know to be smart with your options.

I think in the Diddy match you could've used the can more like was said previously. It seemed like diddy could go any where that he wanted without really any fear of an exploding can. I think you could've used that to set more traps for him, but to be honest I don't really know much about that MU.

Good stuff.

I've never really ben range to do such things because i always have my opponent out of that range quickly. The fair is nice but i prefer down throw because you can get more from a range of %s

I thought I could go for an Uair if I Uthrow for more damage, but now that you mention it, I found its not guaranteed like you said and its actually the same damage as the Fthrow>Fair/Dash attack. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll try to work on breaking that habit.

i have no idea what was with 1:22, but I guess you're right about the can thing, I'll try that the next time I come across a diddy player. Thing is though, I usually don't make good use of the cans and I hardly ever get them to hit my opponents, and sometimes they just hit it back towards my direction so it'll pop towards me if I press B again. I just don't know how to use this move properly so I avoided trying to use it in the Diddy match, only to get penalized for it. Maybe I should watch your videos and learn from you..

As for the smashes, I kinda already figured that out but it's true, I overuse smashes. I have difficulty killing people with DHD though, and can't really find many other ways to KO besides offstage Bairs, which causes me to over-rely on my smash attacks and I still struggle to make a kill. I know he also has Dair meteors and Nair can kill, but I haven't found any easy ways to land any of those.

Thanks for the feedback.

Oh look, I'm adding another video. Big shocker.

I actually wasn't planning on adding this match to the thread, but I pissed the guy off so much he decided to let me know.

This was a ranked match between myself and someone on Anther's Ladder called pokemon365. I ended up winning 2-1. Upon this final match against his Marth, he ended it with "congratulations you made me wanna kill myself for 15 minutes" and promptly disconnected. Sore loser I suppose...

http://youtu.be/du6OLqcSWFo

I was going to apologize for winning, but after thinking about it a while, I'm not going to. I took advantage of his defensive play, and controlled the situation. I did the Duck Hunt, and I'm not sorry.

I don't feel like I was camping and spamming one move anyways. I would have lost if I did that.

I'm waiting for a texture hack to just turn the can into a salt shaker
I can't wait for the texture pack to play as the dog from Call of Duty: Ghosts, so the duck turns into a camera on his back and all the shots from the foreground turn into hitmarkers.

Why is this thread not stickied?

Got a Wii U match here:
SmashCentral :4duckhunt: vs TO Joe :4pacman: http://youtu.be/yvhlH3QynVU
I noticed that you (assuming the DH is you) had a habit of using the uair often. The thing is, DH has a tough time landing the KO move and uair happens to be one of them so you'll want to keep it fresh most of the time until high percents. Also, not sure why nair was used for approaches either as it only has a strong effect during the startup frames and has a good amount of end lag with minimal knockback. Plus, the small range means an easy shield grab. Fair is better for general poking and approaches as, spaced well, it's safe on shield.
Not sure if these were serious games but either way, I'm loving how Duck Hunt looks on the Wii U. Can't wait to play it.

Lol, it wasn't me, but I'm sure SmashCentral will appreciate this advice.

In terms of serious games: They were both friendlies between two friends.

More videos needed on critique in comparison to last time. These videos are slightly old though, I've been doing a bit better in the past few days but couldn't record anything because my 3DS is full of replays already. These videos are not part of it.

SH OoS nair and SH FF bair are good KO moves you should make more use of. You could also use some more general mobility. In particular, I noticed you had a tendency to remain stagnant as you shot your projectiles. SH gunmen/clay pigeon and jumping with a can being shot are all good ways to add pressure to your opponent. If you were to incorporate projectiles into your game to build momentum rather than seemingly remain stagnant while doing so, you'd start to overwhelm the opponent. DHs projectiles are generally slow, so it's not like you can camp with Falco's SHDL back in Brawl. I also noticed you sometimes became a bit too smash heavy which isn't a good idea for DH as his smashes should be used as general surprise mixups and heavy punishes rather than making it telegraphed. Also, to every Duck Hunt, USE THE WALL JUMP. Duck Hunt's recovery is really not that great and if you're recovering low and vertically, it's pretty much a stage spike/meteor smash against a competent opponent as DH is left completely helpless and locked in the move. If you can wall jump (works well with walled omegas), it gives you some horizontal/vertical distance and sometimes you won't even need to recover as you'll snap the ledge that way.

Hey everyone! Sorry I have't updated this thread in a bit but I'm about to log everything right now. Side note I had a match with Chibo a couple weeks ago. I definitely could have played a bit better but It's still worth sharing!

Ladies and Gents, VG Bootcamp just posted their first 3DS tourney.

A Duck Hunt player made it to finals, namely seen are RosaLuma, Duck Hunt, and Dedede for the characters.

I thought it seemed relevant.

Thanks for pointing them out.

This match was interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnbPIttdt_8&list=UUj1J3QuIftjOq9iv_rr7Egw

I feel like during the portion with the spike in the middle of the stage, he really could've just charged an fsmash through. It goes right through and protects you. Just keep a can on the top platform to protect you and chase them if they roll away instead of trying to shield it.

Arena ferox is an amazing stage for DHD imo. Though without grabs it kinda sucks so hopefully that new patch will make the mu way easier.

He still won i just feel like he was stalling when he could've taken advantage of the stage.

I REALLY like the idea duck is using the dair to punish rolls here. Seems like the timing is hard but it is fairly safe, and turns into a uair/kill off the top. Definitely gonna try incorporating that.

I thought this may help you all out though I personally despise the character to play as and against. Curse my innate hatred of projectiles!:4miibrawl:

Granted, I thought of the same for the time that they were playing that game with the thin wall between them. I know from personal experience that :4bowserjr:'s drills can sneak in past that span which very few people expect. :4duckhunt:'s immense range smash could've gotten in while RosaLuma was inhaling a can.

With the update ruining replays soon, gonna be uploading a lot of my stuff from anther's ladder and other stuff. Maybe a small combo/montage video, though I don't feel I have enough quality content for a real good one.

If anyone's okay with my cam-quality recordings like I posted before, feel free to send me some DHD stuff you'd like recorded. Only catch is I get permission to use it in a possible compilation video ;) (will give credit ofc)

It is a really good camera ($300 nikon slr), the original videos actually were done under sub-par conditions though. (light kept changing cause dad was working on the window behind me) Will do it in total dark next time.

Imo it's pretty hard to tech with the first hit baiting out failed tech chances and the overall surprise factor of it all so I think it's worth relying on in some MUs. But you're right, not totally legit.
