Tournament STAFF

Ranmaru

I would like some help with watching matches, for a Swiss tournament format. Please let me know if you are interested. It won't be hard, I promise. I'm pretty sure there are other things you can help with, like setting up, tearing down, and reporting scores. But the most important to me is watching matches and reporting scores on them. : D

People confirmed:

Equipment so far:

Bring tv's!

We have plenty of chairs. Just need tv's and cubes. I have a cube, 4 Surge protectors, and 4 extension cords. Plus six tables and infinite supply of chairs.

My contact information (and anyone elses if they post it):
Phone: 215-251-2190
Aim: Sumo449
Email: Sumo_066@hotmail.com (I also go on msn)

Directions:

From NYC (China Town) to Philly (North of Center City):

Driving by car

Public Transport:

The transit in Philly is called Septa. Southeastern Pennsylvania Transport Authority. Check http://www.septa.org to find out how to directly get to the Destination. Address is below. Take the Subway, to Upenn. To 34th Street and Spruce.

Street: 3417 Spruce Street

1.There are two subways that are imporant here: Broad Street Line{BSL} and Market Franford Line {MFL}. If you are already on the Market Franford Line then you are fine. Stop at 34th Street and exit to Spruce Street. (It'll be a few blocks)
2. If you are on Broad Street Line, your destination is City Hall and you'd want to transfer to the Market Franford Line. Number 1. tells you what to do after you get to the MFL. From city hall you can also transfer to the Green Line, which stops at 37th and Spruce, free interchange as well, and you can catch any of the Green Line Trolleys EXCEPT 10 to get to 37th street.

3."By the way, the BSL/MFL are each $2, but its free to transfer between them"

No Cash said:
you can take public trans from nyc by the Chinatown bus. from there just walk to market and take the Market Frankford line westbound a few stops to 15th street and take the free exchange to the BSL northbound to Girard.

also anyone can take a RR line to suburban station and take the BSL from there.

By the way, the BSL/MFL are each $2, but its free to transfer between them

Area:

Rules:

1. No cussing or rude behavior.

2. BYOC: B.ring Y.our O.wn C.ontroller.
3. Don't leave when you have matches to play. There will be a break for that.
4. Don't leave your belongings behind, I'm not your mother. Pick it up! Sometimes I leave my bag around and forget it, it may happen. But, please try to remember, I almost thought I had mine stolen. (Usually people might move it around) If I see you forget it, and I KNOW it is yours, I will kindly let you know. But this MAY not happen, because I will be busy.

5. Don't bring other games to play while a tournament is in progress. (We need the tv's for Melee) Instead, just ask for a side-event here in the thread. Probably can't happen since we have venue till 10 pm but we'll see.
6. Of course! No drugs or Alchohol allowed! No Pornography either.
7. Wash your hands before using another person's controller. (And hope they washed their hands too) We don't want to spread diseases or nothing. Or use Sanitizer.
8. NO REFUNDS! If you are serious about competition, you wouldn't be unsure of what to pay for. If you are, you can pay $0 and play friendlies till singles come, and think about entering singles. It's up to you.
9. Rock/Paper/Scissors will be used to arrange a port to smashers, if the need arises. If there is still a problem, an official will flip a coin.
11. Have fun!

[COLLAPSE="Housing and Rides"]HOUSING:

Ok, I know that 1-2 people can be housed with my friend. If you are interested, aim me/ text me and I'll ask him about it. You'd have to meet him personally first. Not a hard thing at all. : D You will need to post a facebook as well, so we know how you look like. (For safety measures) Yeah, that is how the sleeping arrangement will go. This is philly, this ain't no joke.

Please post if you can house people for a night or something, it would be very helpful and I'd put you up here if you'd like. : D

Being housed:
N/A

Just remember you'd have to take the subway upon waking up, but it's not that hard.

RIDES:

I don't have a car, nor does anyone I know who will be helping me with M.A.D. I'll try to walk you from a station if it's near in walking distance, but sadly that is all I can do. ;-;

Hopefully in the future I can assist anyone with a ride. : ][/COLLAPSE]

Haha ;p MAD is a great synonim. Also, Qdoba has a parking lot but I'm not sure about if you CAN park there, without paying first...

Also you SHOULD come over. No I mean it would be in your best interest to come. : D Plus you can show me more doc stuff!

But there is parking around the theatre, but it's just on the street, not a parking lot lol.

Funnily enough it's like RIGHT on my street. All I have to do is walk like two blocks.

But yeah just when you see Master street and Broad Street, you're there. : D

Pretty big room.

The thread looks clean and accurate! You don't have to change anything, except add a time schedule after you secure the venue, and specify if wobbling is banned or not (your choice as the host of course.) Also I would suggest making the different sections like TIME, PRICES, etc make it a couple sizes bigger and bold font.

As for equipment, at minimum I would say you should have 5 cubes, 5 CRT TV's, 4 power strips, 4 extension cables - all of your own, or the venues. If absolutely not possible, I am sure people will bring tv's and cubes and such. But, in my eyes that's a stable amount of setups already available to the players to be sufficient to complete the tournament in the event everyone brings NOTHING, which is extremely unlikely.

Oh and T.O tips. I help Eggm run the brackets sometimes at Tunes, although I've never actually run them myself, I have watched everything he does from the moment he opens the venue (He picks me up first to help out) and all of them have been successful so far.

Have a laptop away from everything, wish tio tournament organizer installed. Tio is easily learned, you won't have any problem with that. Just make sure when entering the fees that everyone paid, that you set the amount, sometimes peoples fees are listed at 0.00 so when the tournament is over, the pot isn't the right amount.

Very first thing is he sets the tables and televisions and whatever cubes he has up in a perimeter around the room, and sets up the power cords and extensions accordingly. Good to be ready to go before anyone shows up.

As for collecting entry fee for each event, you can either do it at the laptop and take money as you enter names into tio, or have sign up sheets with envelops stapled to each one for money. Alukard usually does this. Helps to be organized and know who paid. Then he likes to give some people a call who he has their number to know if they are on their way. This way, he can give everyone who is late the benefit of the doubt so everyone can be present and enter the tournament. This is for singles. Don't lollygag on starting doubles once you are confident that the majority of people have come. Everyone who wanted to enter singles should be there by the time singles starts, so that should give them ample time.

Other than that, running both events and calling matches are pretty self explanatory. Calling matches, just don't be afraid to assert yourself as the tourney organizer and when you see a friendly finish, let them know that they have a match on a certain tv, or whatever tv, but put it in your voice that you aren't asking a question, its more that they HAVE a match to go to, NOW. Also, try to use your time wisely, spread the schedule evenly over the day, so that people don't feel like they are being rushed, but that the tournament finishes nice and early or on time. That's the best kind. Then everyone can chill and play friendlies and be warmed up the entire day. If you're running melee, don't let people try to bring setups for other games, even if it is their TV, its all about using every possible setup. After the tourney is over, then side events can happen.

So basically when you have doubles / break / singles done you are home free, and you can decide as a group what you want to do. Hope that helps.

But...you have a blue name Chain Ace! LOL! I was never big on the blue name anyway. I'm content with the pink one (whoever gave it to me).

Anyway, I'm interested in this. I hope I can make it!

Oh really? Thank you! : D

Ah right, that should be good then, I shall ask my friends and such to see what we can bring, and then we'll just ask the venue for tv's and such. : D

Yeah, calling matches/destroying friendly time shouldn't be hard, I'm a nice guy but I will not bend or break, need to keep this fair for everyone. : D (in a professional manner)

the only place in philly with really bad parking is south street lol.
lol true

Yes me too! I'll keep you all posted on the date. Once I talk to my friend about equipment and such I'll send an email to the venue owner. : D Then things should be secured. :3

Kinda unlreated but I got a few questions for you.
IDK you could post them here or PM em to me but..
How'd you get this venue, how much did it cost you, how often do they allow people to hold things, how big is the space?

I just went in and asked. I ask everywhere.

I'm not sure about cost yet, I'm going to email the venue owner for a quote.

I'm not sure how often, my first time.

Space is big enough.

I've been caling places like non stp for the past month. When he emails you the qoute could you like PM how much, because I feel like if you oculd get in their, maybe it'd be easier to hold stuff in philly with a venue we could use often.

Sure no problem. Btw it'd be hard to hold things on Saturdays there, since they have classes there. So it'd be better for a Sunday.

About parking, no you can't park at Qdoba or at the apartment complex, you have to park on one of the side streets. This is literally across the street from my old apartment, and I fell in love with the white Qdoba girls at Qdoba.

If you can't get the venue, talk to CAnISmash, see if he can talk to the Gameworks club and rent out a room on Temple's campus for it.
