Couldn't you say the same thing about Crystal, Platinum, Emerald, BW2 and Ultra Sun/Moon?

Back in the day, if you wanted to "expand" your Pokemon game, you paid full price for relatively marginal additions unless you deprived yourself originally while your friends were still having fun with what they had, and had to start the campaign over from scratch. Here the expansion is half the price of what would normally be paid, and those who don't buy still reap benefits through transfers and trading.
Yeah i agree, i prefer this route over buying a full name game for just minor updates. I think this is a good route they are taking

I don't disagree on the principle. I just find it expensive for what it is.

Just because I've been thinking about it again recently, does someone follow up precisely the "leaks"? I'd like info on a few things:

1. Who brought up the "girl in Japanese clothing", "girl with a bird" and "girl with a mecha" things; and
2. Are those deconfirmed

Thanks for answering.

Also 900 pages yay!

I've mainly been on a Star Wars spree, though I'd love to say the Shantae base being massive enough to warrant using this song :p
I know the Confederacy of Independent Systems are the antagonists in the Star Wars movies, but their invasion theme sounds awesome.

While we're waiting for Smash news, let's talk about something.

Do you think there were times where Sakurai missed the mark on something he did?
This is not to mock or demonize him.
He is simply not perfect. Nobody is.
So it should be alright to talk about flaws, as long as it remains civil and respectful.

Hello everyone, figured I should finally make an account on SB after lurking for about a year. Congrats on the 900 pages! Who knows, maybe by the time we hit 1000 we'll be seeing Shantae in Smash proper.

An easy one is Isaac.
Another is Shantae; handed to him with open arms, but he hasn't taken the offer.

Maybe he just isn't seeing their potential for some reason. I'd rather wait until we get to see what he meant by "additional DLC to please the fans".

That crossover platformer from ARC SYSTEM WORKS looks fun. I will be curious how Misako and Kyoto transition.

Nintendo says they love indie games, allowed one of their biggest franchises (Zelda) to have an official crossover with one (NecroDancer), even gave indies their own exclusive Direct yet the subject of playable indies in Smash is a very weird one with them but until they say "no indie rep for you", I'm gonna hold onto the belief there's one planned.

To play the devil's advocate... Isaac just has unbelievably stiff competition in the JRPG protagonist department (:ultcloud::ultshulk::ulthero:), to say nothing of the Fire Emblem crew.

For Shantae, the issue seems not to be a lack of potential, but rather too much of it, or at least the wrong kind when it comes to Smash 4. That game was notably anti-transformation character, separating Zelda and Sheik, Samus and ZSS and making Charizard a solo fighter. At the time, Shantae's best known abilities came from Pirate's Curse and Half-Genie Hero. But the full transforming of the latter probably wouldn't fly in the 4 engine, Pirate Gear would not have been very representative of Shantae's character and trying to heavily modify any of it to suit Smash might have been seen as doing a disservice. This situation did not change much going into Ultimate's development, sure we got the Trainer's team back, but only to fit the theme and after heavy rebalancing. Shantae probably was still too much of a hassle to consider developing in that hectic environment with her current known abilities and situation.

Enter Seven Sirens, a game that uses Shantae's iconic magic transformations but without overriding her normal moveset in the process. Now, the door is open to making a Shantae moveset that isn't overly complicated to balance, yet still remain faithful to the games. The only question at this point is how much, if any, info was the Smash dev team privy to regarding that game?

In which case if the problem is transformations, maybe they shouldn't be ones where it's like switching a character like Pokémon Trainer can. Instead, the transformations should be more like attack moves. For example, a forward or a down aerial special can let her temporarily change into an elephant and immediately change back when the attack animation is over. It'd be no different than like when Kirby changes into block shaped items.

Exactly. But as a nod to old fans and games, as well as resulting in something rather unique, I feel that those moves could still be accessed after performing a requisite dance, replacing moves that would normally be used. This would basically be a hybrid of Monado Arts and Trainer switching, tailoring herself to fit various situations without going overboard and overspecialising like the forms normally do in their games.

Regarding Code Shifter, am I the only one who has Rapunzel's Tangled Adventures vibes looking at the red-haired girl? She literally looks like Rapunzel with her hair dyed red XD

You know, I've almost given up on Shantae becoming playable in Ultimate to where I'm at the point that I'm just looking forward towards Seven Sirens' release date to be announced. I think Shantae's chances are better in Smash 6 at this point honestly.

It's good to keep hype levels in check but that is taking a straight dive, dude. They haven't even announced the extra fighters yet. Don't give up.

Mainly the reason I believe Shantae probably doesn't have any chance for Ultimate is due to Fatmanonice hearing stuff from his contects that no Indies are going to be a part of the DLC lineup along with no Echos.

Remember, Contacts/Insiders can be wrong with their information. Plus, it's entirely possible they can be only referring to the current Fighter's Pass lineup and/or be feeding false information to jam leakers' up.

Oh for the love of-- you're seriously taking that guy's words into account? 'Cause what? He has sources? Verg has sources and I've yet to see Minecraft.

Well I know about that.
But that doesn't prove WayForward had talks with Sakurai himself or that he declined Shantae for Fighter's Pass.
Nor will we if there's an NDA. We do know however Matt often visits Nintendo so you never know what goes on behind the scenes.

Dang it people, I've seen these depressing mood swings always kick in prior to Directs. Stop making it a thing.

The best thing we can do is keep an eye on the Nintendo Twitter account, since they'll likely announce a Nintendo/Smash Direct soon. Whomever Fighter No. 5 is might be a big one, since they've kept their mouth shut about them, even when the general trend with regards to the DLC characters was revealing the next one (or two) after demonstrations of the previous DLC character was done.

Exactly.

So why making the point that Sakurai refused Shantae, as if it's a proven truth:

Fatmanonice has been a part of the Smashboards community for almost 14 years and has stayed here all this time to help push Geno into Smash and longer counting his been on this crusade since 2002 on the Internet. I don't think Fatman would lie to the Geno fans, us, or anyone on Smashboards about information regarding the game because he has told me before that he really likes Shantae and her series and loved the fact it grew so much over the years going from a one shot GBC game to a multi title popular Indie franchise. I think if Fatman was a liar or not the man he says he is, he wouldn't have stayed on this forums for almost a decade and a half.

No one's calling him a liar. I'm just saying don't take everything as fact. Don't even take what I say as fact. That's the point of speculating isn't it that it's fun to guess things. It's just some take his word seriously which is probably where the confusion of him being seen as a leaker comes from even if he's not one.

Fatman tells everybody not to take his theories seriously so I know. Fatman creates theories from what he hears so regardless of that, I really like the dude and I'm going to stick by his predictions until either they're proven false or correct.

I'm (kinda) in the same boat as RetrogamerMax. I've given up on seeing her as DLC just on the fact Shantae's not a big enough name for the Big N to consider "highly profitable" as a DLC Fighter. Fatman's speculation aside, I think we should all be expecting her either be a Mii Costume at most, or stay a Spirit at the very least.

Why are we suddenly coming to the conclusion that Shantae will not be a DLC Fighter?

We're not even in Season 2 yet.
Heck, we don't even know how big Season 2 is.

So why throwing in the towel so early?!
