I just want to see more shantae ok?? XD

I dont really like shovel knight that much, but I dont think it's bad to show up in a lot of things. Well, being in bigger stuff like smash is of course the dream. But anyway, I really just wanted to say I want more shantae, not thinking about strategy. :p

Also. looks like we both upgraded our avatars :)
I'm not sure if you're really understanding the situation, so I'll explain it as best as possible.

Say that you have ice cream. People love it, but if people eat it every day for every meal, they eventually get tired of it and want to eat a different kind of sweet treat instead. So, a little variety helps.

I'll eat their ice cream then. More for me :happysheep:

No but really, again, I was just expressing myself, wanting more shantae. :)

Same here, but I just don’t want oversaturation of her to happen like with him. His game is less than 5 years old and he’s made more cameos than pretty much any other notable video game character in existence. It just feels like Yacht Club is shoving him down our throats at this point and I don’t want the same to happen with Shantae. Not saying she can’t make any more guest appearances, just maybe not to the same extent.

The problem is that Yacht Club has no choice in the matter, as Shovel Knight is the only IP they have and they need to stay afloat. The expansions they have made for Shovel Knight has well gone over what they were funded with, so they need to rely on these cameo's.

And like I said earlier some of said games with cameos aren't out yet (Starr Mazer comes to mind), so that won't be ending any time soon. In any case, I wonder what will happen after Treasure Trove safely comes out in physical format.

I hope none of this is being interpreted as bashing though, just a logical explanation.

I looked for someone else talking about that, and the majority of people dont see it as oversaturation, and enjoy getting more cameos.
I can understand a bit how you feel, but I think it's just a good thing to have a character you like in more places. Maybe i'll change my opinion sometime, but for now I dont see a problem.

I think that when Yacht Club finishes the full Shovel Knight package, expansion and all, they are going to make something entirely new. I recall them being open to something like a Shovel Knight 64, but I think they will want to have some more IP's under there belt and prove they can do things outside of Shovel Knight. Just seems like the next step for Yacht Club as a gaming company.

Yeah I was thinking they could do a new thing, much like Motion Twin not sitting on Dead Cells' laurels. Definitely a better position than what Playtonic has.

Or something that actually kicked off this year, 13AM Games releasing Double Cross when they were most known for Runbow. A noticeable attempt at evolving from what came before, without completely ditching it of course.

I think, beyond cases of a character like Ryu appearing in games outside of his own that nonetheless come from the same developer, frequent guest appearances should be best as a symptom of strong popularity instead of trying to increase it, if you get my drift.

As expected we all know about these rumors regarding Cristina Vee. And with more rumors of a new direct coming up on top of that, I'd best take the opportunity to post this stage idea before it might be too late.

Scuttle Town
from Shantae (Series)

The hometown of our favorite Half-Genie Hero. And the town she happens to be the guardian of. Shame she can’t protect it from the incompetence of its own mayor. But even so, she does her best to to protect the town whenever it’s under attack. Good thing too because guess what? It’s under attack again.

If you have the talent to actually draw something like this out instead of having to make a cluster of eye-bleeding copy/paste jobs, I hate you. But only out of jealousy.

But for the sake of having a clue as to what’s what, here are the collisions.

What’s inside the green rectangle is solid ground, what’s in the blue ones are passable platforms, and in the red ones are bodies of water that you can swim in. Everything else is just open air. Aliasing may be a bit off. Apologies for that.

As for the background. Well technically it changes a bit because of the day to night transitions in this stage. The image below gives an idea of what things look like during the day.

And this one gives an idea of the night-time appearance.

As for the hazards on this stage, well, there aren’t any. The cool, but annoying in the design process thing about Scuttle Town is that there are so many options for how it could be implemented. So for the sake of not having a stage too crowded with annoying elements that would cause the stage to have to rely on Battlefield and Omega forms to be good (I’m looking at you 75m) I decided to take a page from Dracula’s Castle and have just a simple layout that stays faithful to the source material. And personally I think the layout I went with bears a pretty good resemblance to the 1st level of Half-Genie Hero. So I’m satisfied in that regard.

There are some neat things you’ll see in the background like tinkerbats attacking the town or Sky and Bolo fighting back, but those are all background elements. They wouldn’t have any effect on a match.

The reason Scuttle Town is such an obvious choice for a Shantae stage is because of how pivotal a location it is so in a way it felt like a formality to submit this. If Shantae does get in, I’m not sure how close this interpretation will be to the official Scuttle Town. But I’m certainly curious as to how on or off the mark I’ll be.

Possible DLC character this stage could come with:

Shantae

DLC music this stage could bring:

But since Scuttle Town is such an obvious choice for a Shantae stage, I think I’ll throw in a little bonus with a less common idea.

Mermaid Falls
from Shantae: Half-Genie Hero

Now despite my large support for Shantae to get in Smash, my experience with her series is actually pretty limited. Mermaid Falls does however fit into the camp of what I have played and it’s an appealing level from Half-Genie Hero. Other options for a stage that’s not Scuttle Town exist I’m sure. But this is the one I’m going with.

Oh my gosh I actually found a way to give a rough idea of a background WHAT IS THIS BLACK MAGIC?!?!?!?!?!

*ahem*

So the main floor that Risky is standing on is solid ground. All other platforms are passable.

Now unlike my Scuttle Town idea this one actually has some things going on that can affect a match. For example, you might see some bubbles enter the screen that can act as platforms. But obviously they’ll pop if you stand on them too long.

The main gimmick here is enemies like those crabs and gators from the factory portion of this level entering the stage. They don’t damage any fighters. But they can do a quick construction job to change the passable platforms into ones that more closely resemble the factory part of the level as opposed to the nature part.

And while the imagery makes it a bit hard to tell, any platforms that get mechanized have those ring lines near them so that the hooks can carry more passable platforms in and out. The mermaids can sometimes appear and launch a bunch of bubbles at the mechanical platforms. These bubbles don’t damage fighters. It’s just a form of magic that transforms the platform back into its nature state.

The mechanical platforms can also bring in special buttons when more than one is in effect. The amount of these buttons ranges from 2 to 4 at once and when they are all pressed…….

The Giga Mermaid appears as a stage boss (as you can tell with her attacks having knocked out Ridley). Her whole body is a weak spot but unlike most bosses she doesn’t grant a reward upon her defeat.

The thing is that the buttons you were pressing earlier were what actived her shackles. The buttons track the player who pressed them and those players are immune to the Giga Mermaids attacks. Except for one occurence.

See the extra brooch like the one the Giga Mermaid wears? Those will appear in the player color of those who imprisoned her and can be broken by attacks. If the brooch of your color gets broken, not only will the Giga Mermaid be able to damage you but she will specifically target you as well. She did not appreciate being chained up after all.

This puts the Giga Mermaid as a risk vs. reward type of boss. Is summoning her to attack the other players worth an opponent breaking a brooch and turning her into a hazard against you? That’s up to you to decide.

Possible DLC Character this stage could come with:

Well technically it should be Shantae. But I already listed her for this category on Scuttle Town. So for the sake of variety, I’ll say Risky instead.

don't want to make things worse and/or more to disturb the sleeping flame, but people are starting to bring up the rumor of a direct coming next week. Its best to take those with a Grain of Salt

Here is something to make up for awakening the flame.

With Scuttle Town, you can more or less rip the main set of buildings as they appear in Pirate's Curse. It's a pretty standard Smash layout, even if the stage would most likely be a walk-off. Several things could happen there too: the bathhouse lady serving up a tub of healing spring water, a damaging stampede of panicked citizens followed by a Risky Boots or Ammo Baron attack, or rarely, the area being cloaked in darkness as the Pirate Master looms in the background.

Captain Hazama Captain Hazama I wouldn't expect much from this user... he/she looks for any reason to whine about his/her preferred being ''mistreated'' or just plain not being well-liked. Even if the reason is as flimsy as a forum being a little quiet. And he never ever posts anything if there's nothing negative to talk about. His/her reasons will most likely boil down to ''boo-hoo Nintendo/the fans don't care enough about Shantae and that's why they made her a spirit''.

I had considered making the carnage from the town being under attack a stage hazard. But part of me fears that it would lead into the stage having a few too many hazards. But I guess it could be balanced more than I'm giving it credit for. For what it's worth, I do like the creativity of your ideas more than that of the implementation I went with.

This is the game where we can turn hazards off, friend. Shouldn't be afraid to go a little crazy with that in mind.

Even if that was true. We will still support a character we love and like to see appear in the Ultimate crossover game. Though I'm curious, why do you suggest she will become that? I'll like to hear your argument/s.

it's not so much that i know but that seeing A Character from A Outside Japan Game doesn't seem too likely unless the game is either super popular or Sakurai just likes it that much

Whenever I see this statement, a common contradictory statement debunks it, which leads me to ask:
Is this part where Dark Samus, Diddy Kong and King K. Rool say hi?

This is the part where I say, even though the Donkey Kong franchise is technically japanese, reviving it as Donkey Kong Country was pretty much all Rare's idea in the first place.

I told you guys this user wouldn't have anything better to offer other than ''Nintendo doesn't like/care about my character''. This ''no western third-party'' rule is just another extension of that attitude.

I don't think I'm buying any of that, it's too obvious. Unless it was taken down at the speed of light. Always keeping my expectations in check here.
It wouldn't be breaking a NDA though. But saying the name Super Smash Bros. would.

I told you guys this user wouldn't have anything better to offer other than ''Nintendo doesn't like/care about my character''. This ''no western third-party'' rule is just another extension of that attitude.
Ah. First troll/(Shantae Hater?) that I've seen in here, then.

That's a pity, it would have been neat if Sak had done an original game for the Oculus.

Granted Double Cross wasn't too innovative, but they tried, at least.

This is the part where I say, even though the Donkey Kong franchise is technically japanese, reviving it as Donkey Kong Country was pretty much all Rare's idea in the first place.

As they say, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. I noticed that the Banjo thread got attacked recently, too.

What we know is that Shantae is currently the new Ridley for smash.

Being Indie has odds against her compared to the AAA Games. Still she has a chance until the doors officially close. So her light still dwindles in the dark no matter how bad the situation is. Stay strong everyone.

Also, lets hope nintendo gives us another direct soon for News. Not saying this for desperation, but I think its time for an update other then small game trailers on their channel.

Yeah. Well, technically she's not the only Ridley, seeing as Waluigi is a designated monkey until further notice. Perhaps he can be her K. Rool?

The only way she won't stand a chance is if her series gets cancelled and WF goes under. Live on the hill and die on the hill!

Yeah, it's looking to be a dead month with no new Nintendo releases coming until March, so this would be the right time for it.

I think if Shovel Knight can make it as a Assist Trophy, Shantae can make it as a playable character to be honest. If Sakurai gave that treatment to Shovel Knight, than I could see him giving Shantae just as good of a treatment or even better than his.

It might be time to release the tension for a little while considering how tight the Smash Fighter Pass remaining 4 characters are in predictions. Hope that Sakurai and the Smash Team isn't facing too much tension from the fans

Ah. First troll/(Shantae Hater?) that I've seen in here, then.
I wouldn't call him a troll, those fish for rage. He's fishing for pity. He mostly frequents the K. Rool forums lamenting how he's apparently not a great competitive character when most everyone else there is just happy to have him (some of it may be genuine frustrations playing him but he still seeks far too much validation from others), and once got upset on the Inkling boards just because it was quiet there for a while.

even still, Capcom fought hard and lost to keep the rights of Shantae. I wont be surprised if they try to get series again if heaven forbids, WayForward tanks.
Never heard about this trivia. Probably for the best considering the turn many of their non-Street Fighter or Monster Hunter series took for a while...

Are there any hints or actual cause of worry that WayForward will be going under? Or are we just speaking in a "what-if but please dear god no" kind of way?

Not at the moment since according to them Half-Genie Hero Ultimate edition sold well enough. But they are big dreamers when it comes to Shantae and there's always the concern that one big undertaking that bombs will put them in jeopardy, if they even have the resources to attempt it in the first place.

Incidentally, does anyone think that Shantae's guest appearance in Indivisible might be Wayforward testing the waters on how she'd work in an RPG setting?

Yeah, this is the first I've heard of this... the only series I've seen this much doom-saying is with the DC movies (but that is a whole 'nother can of worms).

This is purely hypothetical. No one is actually saying they're going down any time soon, we just have no clue what they're doing next, seeing as Shantae is the only active original IP of theirs left and they seemingly have no other ways to make bank other than with licensed games right now. Well, that, and saving the day on Bloodstained's troubled development.

It's all just a case of "Shantae's chances for Smash won't die as long as her series is alive!" is all.

DC movies should be fine after doing the smart thing, which is having movies for individual heroes rather than the Justice League itself.
