Serious problems tech chasing

Me again. So I've finally gotten myself 20xx to work with and it's been hella helpful. Except I'm terrible at tech chasing on reaction... I've basically spent the past week and more practicing nothing but it and I'm still either grabbing after shine comes out or just getting hit by shine. I've tried dash dance grabbing, wavedashing before chasing but something always catches me, especially tech in place or no tech.

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions or otherwise to help?
