Secondaries

Who do you guys use as a 2nd in tournaments and if you don't use a second why don't you?

I like to use Falco and ZSS.

I go all Sonic. Only time I ever switch is online when the connection is bad, or if I'm not playing seriously.

first rule in hedgehog ******ry: You have no secondaries.

If I'd have to play someone seriously, I'd use Sonic, because there just isn't anyone I could use other than Sonic. If you want the most obvious secondary, it's MK. Go main MK, secondary Sonic, it's what you should do then.

Pretty sure the first rule of Hedgehog ******ry is EVERYONE is your secondary. If you don't know every matchup inside and out you're toast.

I play a bit of almost everyone. I guess MAIN secondaries are Pika for the combo/pressure factor that I like oh so much, Falco for pressure reasons, Snake for his brokenness and his tech chases(plus splosions) and Falcon because I played him in Melee and I just like him too much.

Yeah, I've been trying to pick up every character just so I can get more familiar with them inside and out.

But as of right now, I'm going all Sonic in tournaments. Maybe in the future I'll pick up legit secondaries and not just for fun secondaries.

Metaknight is my secondary.

why:
1: hes god tier
2: people who counter for meta are messed up even more when I switch to sonic. Not only do they have to fight a pro level sonic, who they might not know the matchup, they must also consider the possiblity of a metaknight matchup when they select thier own.
3: Metaknight handles sonic's counters well.
4: both characters can play on the same favorite stages well
5: meta isn't banned yet, so why not?
6: Sonic actually is a great counter character, so is metaknight

I was looking at him earlier today. Used to play him a bit as a secondary, but that kinda' faded out but now I'm interested in getting better with him. Does he take care of a couple matchups that are otherwise difficult for Sonic?

I find Sonic such a strange / difficult character, I really don't want to invest all the time developing another char up to par with my Sonic, because it takes away from exploring different situations where I need to learn how to play the Sonic better. Sonic doesn't seem to have any serious hard-counters, like we're pretty even across-the-board. Adjusting how to use Sonic in one matchup helps me play better in the other ones, by allowing me to switch playstyles or w/e since I'd need different ones to be predominant in different matchups.

I toy with ICs/Bowser, but wouldn't bring them out in tournament -- that's especially where I need my Sonic to gain experience.

Sonic is my secondary. Knuckles is my main. lol

Marth is my tourney 2ndary. I use him to handle the likes of good G&Ws, good Warios, good MKs, and many Olimars. (I suck against Olimar)

But I'm mostly Sonic.

Sonic's my main, and the only character I use in tournament.

Technically, Jiggz and Lucario on my secondary/third, but I'd never play in tournament with either.

It's Sonic or bust for me.

I only go Sonic in tourneys, but I'm starting to consider wather I should start using Ike or not.

...I'm thinking "not really" since I may get better in tourneys, but my Sonic will start to decline... even if it's already hard enough to play Sonic only in tourneys.

I second marth, and maybe luc and falco...
Although, my marth sucks, like I always get killed as him on wi-fi, lol.
And my lucario and my falco... my god I haven't played them in MONTHS.

Ike has better matchups against G&W/Wario/MK than Sonic does for example. He also picks up on some of Sonic's other neutral matchups as well.

I suppose the ladder is only true because most of our neutral matchups the other character boards are just too d*** stubborn about it to say that it's in Sonic's favor.

Lucario and snake ftw

I only use lucario when im against heavies coz i love uptilt spam and FPCG getting em to like 50% lol, and Snake just because everytime I land an ftilt or utilt wiht him, I enjoy the game that much more. It never gets old hearing people say stuff like 'WTF AS IF THAT HIT ME' and dthrow->dair is the best combo ever when it works

I'm workin on Marth myself; but my sonic is still not perfected. Just thought I should have a second character up to at least a decent level to play/gain experience with in friendlies.

No specific reason for Marth, I just like him/his play style i guess

I used to use Sheik as my secondary. But recently I've been using Link as my second.
He's scarily catching up to my Sonic faster than I can control, and I haven't even learned half of Link's good ATs yet.
I might end moving to the Link boards at this rate, even if I like Sonic as my main better and wanna stay here.
My Sonic is constantly getting better, but nowhere close to the rate my Link is progressing.
I have been using Link for about 9 years now, since Smash 64 came out, so it's not that surprising that I know how to use him well.

I'm in the process of finding my secondaries now.

In the coming months though, I'll be likely to go pure Sonic for these tourneys.

When I was in Hawaii with PC, DarkMusician, and others, I used Dedede. Next time I go back, I'm steaking it up with Sonic.

Otherwise? I've got a lot of options. I like King Dedede, Kirby, Meta Knight, Ike, Luigi, Pokémon Trainer, Wario, Snake, and...

Way too many characters to count. Ahahaha.

There was one match-up I had in a tourney where someone CP'd Rainbow Cruise, so I decided for the heck of it (my Sonic wrecked his Dedede), to use my Dedede. And so he uses Donkey Kong.

... It was the best decision I had ever made. Chaingrabbing against walls and chaingrabbing someone off the side ftw, it was so sad but so easy. XD!!! And now I'm rambling wtf.

Lucario's cool too. Too many choices. You know what? I think I'll just get back to you guys on when I do find some nice secondaries.
