Secondaries for Chrom?

I am looking for a good secondary character to cover Chrom's bad matchups.

From my perspective, Chrom struggles with the following matchups:
•Characters who have high gimp potential and can go off-stage
•Characters with wind boxes such as Squirtle's water gun or Mario's FLUDD.. (Chrom doesn't like water I guess, messes up his hair)
•Characters who can use Counter at the ledge to stifle Chrom's recovery
•To a lesser extent, characters who can zone with strong projectiles, but I have been able to counterplay this within the matchup. Projectiles that can be used to gimp, such as PK Thunder, can be hard to deal with though.

Does anyone have recommendations for characters who don't struggle against these?

I feel like chrom is best as a rush down character but lately when I play Mario/doc I try and mix up how often I approach and just empty shffl to bait out their moves. I have only been using chrom and dk and I’m not convinced that chrom has a bad matchup if you stay close enough to prevent people from spamming.

Sounds like you're mostly worried about character that gimp your recovery :) Sounds fair to me. I'd prioritize someone with a good recovery.

I've been playing a lot of Palutena lately. Teleports (especially with no hitbox) are one of the safest recoveries, so if there's a character good at gimping (or one that I want to go offstage against) Palutena is my choice. Palutena also deals with projectile.

TBH, Chrom/Lucina is probably a good pair. Similar playstyles, but Lucina has a good recovery that's hard to mess with. So you can play chrom for a better neutral, and if your opponent is good at taking you offstage, play Lucina. Lucina doesn't have projectiles/reflectors either, but they're both fast enough to rush down projectile users so I wouldn't worry about that as much.
