SD cards not needed?

I recently looked at the Stage Builder update (my favorite), and I noticed something. Since it shows a place where you can put stages onto an SD card, and since stages were saved (look on the screenshot before it) to the Wii, SD is optional! This may not be the most amazing find, but you guys don't have to worry anymore.
And while we're on the subject, does anyone know if Brawl will have seperate save files?

just because you have the option doesnt mean the wii has unlimited space. the wiis internal memory will be able to save few stages, pics, and videos. so yes, they are nessesery, just like its nessesery i need spelling lesssonsz

Yes, they are ONLY necessary if you run out of room (which is why i'll have a whole SD card filled).

I'll be saving EVERYTHING on an SD card. I'll get one of those 4GB ones. Maybe even 8GB (If it goes that high)

Is this about average for an SD card?
Below average, to my knowledge. I have a MicroSD card (as in a SD card smaller than your fingernail) that's about that size.

But screenshots are small and generally not high-quality, and stages are just rearranging pre-installed stuff in a slightly different way, not creating new textures or models.

2GB is almost overkill for both Smash Bros and your Wii in general.

Okay, maybe I got a little too excited.

2GB it is. And if I need more, then I can just buy another one. Seriously, Brawl's going to hurt the digital memory business. And that's just from the Bli33ard household.

Duh that was obvious.

I'm gonna use SD cards alot anyways since I can get a bunch of stages online by sd card, copying my stage onto it, put it on computer, have the somone in the smash community make a site for uploading and downloading maps.

I guess he means different Brawl saves?
I guess >_> I've never called them "files", though, and it's kind of confusing when we went from talking about Brawl to talking about the merits of SD cards.

Answer: no, you can't carry more than one Brawl save on one card. You can backup your data to your computer, I think, but you can't have more saves with it than the game allows normally.

I honestly don't see a point in having more than one Brawl save, anyway. lol.

But yeah, the SD card is going to be overkill, like EDreams said. But is that ever a bad thing?

OK, all of my questions except two have been answered. I recently found a powersaves SD card, but does the save file on it (using cheats) override and erase the seperate save file on the Wii? And also, if you use a save file with cheats, can you turn them off?
I have little bros, so I need to know.

I'm pretty sure everyone knew this, and I'm getting an SD card. I'm going to need a ton of space for all my snapshots and stages.
I know this now, but can you answer those 2 Q's?

I plan on having an SD card dedicated solely to Brawl. I don't know about the rest of you.

Yeah, same. I don't really use SD cards, not even for digital cameras and the like. The last time I used one was to put some music on Excite Truck. Daymn Ross Copperman.. I don't know how he got on there.

Oh, wow. You guys are a bit clueless. The ONLY has 512 internel flash memory, not 2 GB. and only MOST of it is rewritable.

Now you know. And now you also know that you WILL need an SD card because the we can't handle epic.

Could you make that clearer?

I mean the Wii does NOT have 2 gigs -- maby in someone's dream someday, but not now. You NEED an SD card if you are more than a casual gamer.
The Wii has less than 512 MB of space and it's going to get less everyday. SD card required.

I've already got an SD card of 2GB, so no worries for me. Not using it for much right now, except for backing up save files and channels. But I sure will with Brawl.

Well, for comparison purposes for those unsure of if they'll need an SD card or not:

I purchased a Wii on launch day. Right now, my Wii's memory consists of:

Game Data (Wii and Virtual Console): 32 files
WiiWare/Channel Data: 3 files
WiiWare and special Wii channels: 3
Virtual Console Channels: 14
Photos Saved to Wii: 0

Blocks Remaning: 1149

The Virtual Console channels eat up most of this memory (although the Elebits save file is particularly huge). If you don't download a lot of them, you should be good. I just recently deleted all my photos to see how much space they were taking, and it's such a minor amount per each file that it isn't even worth mentioning. Screenshots will be no issue for anyone. If one chooses not to purchase an SD card, they'll be fine as long as they don't save like hundreds of custom stages and replays.

Donkey Kong Country (data and actual download) take up a total of 63 blocks, so I would doubt anything would amount to that much as far as custom content goes. In fact, I imagine most of it would be a third of DKC's size or less.

But, I am one of those people who will have a massive amount of custom stages to keep the game fresh. I intend to save most of my fights as well to look back on how to improve. That being said, a 1 or 2 gig SD card would still be a great thing to have simply because you'll more than likely never have to delete anything at all.

2GB is almost overkill for both Smash Bros and your Wii in general.

I only have a few VC games and only like 5 saved games data and my Wii only has half of its memory left. I'm sure a lot of people will need an SD card.

Why was this thread created? Did someone SERIOUSLY think that a game could ONLY be saved on external memory for the Wii?
