Sakurai: However, if the character on standby gets hit, he or she may fumble the Smash Ball!
However, as we can see in this video, Donkey Kong gets hit lots of times and still doesn't lose it.

Provocative title aside, do you think there's some sort of limit to how much damage you can take while holding the smash ball? What would this be do you think? DK takes 42% damage in the video and dies but doesn't lose the smash ball.

Sheez, he got hit by only 2 attacks. MetaKnight's attack and Sonic's F-smash. Remember that it'll probably be lost quite randomly, just like it was with items in Melee.

I would think it would work similarly to Kirby losing his hat, or a character having their item knocked off of them.

Erm, yeah.....

You remember how fumbles were handled in melee....

Think same thing.

Fumbles can happen, or they might not. A lot of attacks risk fumbles, but nothing is assured.

OMG... It Says "MAY" fumble the smash ball. Its not going to happen every time. Its just luck. Its like dropping an item when getting hit. People need to chill out.

I may drop my turnip if I get hit while holding one. If one occasion requires 5+ hits for me to drop it, and the next one takes only 1, does that make me a liar?

It seems just as random as any chance to drop an item when hit.

When I was Ike it usually took 2 to 3 Hits to slap the Smash ball out of a Metaknight at the E4A demo.

Then again, HE IS IKE.

Yes, it was a 1 on 1 match, I did win, Ike forever.

I can think of only one logical and completely objective explanation for this. DK is a BAMF and wouldn't loose his balls over sissy girls swatting at him.

In the vein of seriousness however I think it's got a little randomness to the fumbling. A la "he or she MAY fumble the Smash Ball!"

From the videos I've seen, the player holding the smash ball needs to be abused obscenely before they drop the ball.
