Guys guys guys guys guys.

So there's been some confusion over our rules between our different tournaments, and some of the stuff hasn't been clarified enough, so I thought we could use this thread to discuss the rulesets we have, and hopefully unify them all.

What I suggest is that we use the following, I've talked to Mason about it and basically it's pretty similar to what we have now, but there's been some slight clarification on some stuff, as well as some tweaking here and there. (some of the stuff that I've changed we already do at tournaments, it's just not "official")

So tell me what you think and what suggestions people have. I can talk to people on facebook about various specifics of it in the SA smash chat.

SUPER SMASH BROS. BRAWL RULESET
Stage List:

Starter | Counterpick
Battlefield|Delfino Plaza
Final Destination|Frigate Orpheon
Smashville|Rainbow Ride
Yoshi's Island|Brinstar
Pokémon Stadium 1|Halberd
Pokemon Stadium 2|Castle Siege
Lylat Cruise
General Rules:
  • Stocks: 3
  • Time Limit: 9 Minutes
  • Items: Off and NONE.
  • Double Elimination Bracket
  • Bracket Sets: Best of 3
  • Finals Sets: Best of 5
  • Pause: Pause is set to off for all tournament matches.
  • Disqualification Clause: After a match has been called; if a player is 2 minutes late he will receive a warning. At 4 minutes late, he will be given a loss for the first game of the set. After 6 minutes, he will be given a loss of the entire set. This may be extended if one is involved in another tourney such as Melee

Other Rules:
  • If time runs out, the winner is determined by stock, then percentage.
  • If both stock and percentage are identical, or a game ends with both players being KO'd simultaneously (and the game goes to sudden death), then a 1 stock 3 minute rematch is played. MK will have a LGL of 12 for this rematch.
If the rematch proceeds to sudden death due to the timer running out, and both players have equal percentage, or because of a suicide KO, sudden death will be played out, and grabbing the ledge is banned.
  • Extending Meta Knight's Dimensional Cape is banned.
  • Ledge-Grab Limit: If time runs out and a Meta Knight player has grabbed the ledge over 35 times during the match, he is given an automatic game loss regardless of stocks and percentage.
  • Stalling is banned. Stalling does not include running away from the opponent, nor staying in a hard to reach position. Stalling is defined as making the game unplayable for the opponent.
    Examples of stalling include:
Infinites that do not build any damage. For example Yoshi grab-releasing Wario over and over without pummeling.
Continuing an infinite combo/chain-grab/lock past 300%. This includes things like Diddy's banana lock and IC's chain-grab. To be specific, the opponent must be below 300% before the last hit of the combo.
Not attacking a frozen opponent in a timely manner. Examples include Diddy freezing during his u-throw, the opponent must capitalize on this in a timely manner (at the TOs discretion) otherwise it will be deemed stalling and the player will forfeit the match. In doubles as long as 1 player on the opposing team is not frozen it is not considered stalling.

Set Format:
  1. Ports are decided, if there is a dispute between ports, a match shall be started on FD with both players choosing G&W. After using G&W's side-b "judgement" the player who got the higher number will have preference over ports. If both numbers are the same the process is repeated. In teams matches it is decided by the addition of the judgement numbers. Players may use another method to decide ports if they both agree (such as RPS) and the TO does not deem it too time consuming.
  2. Both players choose their characters (as well as their sub-character and costume) for the first game. A double-blind pick may be requested by either player.
  3. Players strike stages from the Starter Stage List in a 1-1-2-2-2-1 order (assuming "1" is the player with the lower port and "2" is the player with the higher port). Players may choose to agree on any stage rather than strike.
  4. The first game is played using the stage chosen by Step 3.
  5. The loser of the previous game may opt to reselect ports, with him/herself getting first choice.
  6. The winner of the previous game can ban up to 2 stages for the next game.
  7. The loser of the previous game chooses a stage from the Starter or Counterpick Stage List, not including stages that have been banned for this round, or a stage they already counter-picked and won on. If both players agree they may play on any stage, or custom stage at the TOs discretion.
  8. The winner of the previous game chooses their character.
  9. The loser of the previous game chooses their character.
  10. Steps 5-9 are repeated as necessary.

Doubles Rules:
  • Team Attack: On
  • Sharing stocks is allowed.
  • Controller Ports are decided in the following order, 1221, 1 being the team that chooses first.

Conduct Rules
  • BYOC (Bring your own controller): Players are expected to bring their own controller and be prepared for every tournament set. Do not expect other controllers to be available and if they are the quality may be dubious.
  • No controller with a turbo or macro button is permissible to use.
  • In the case of pause being accidentally turned on, and a player accidentally pausing, the TO is to be called over immediately, where they will judge the situation and order players to act accordingly. This may result in being forced to forfeit a stock if the pausing player was in a disadvantage, two stocks if the pause messed with the other player's recovery, or simply forcing players to return to a neutral position if the pause occurred in such a situation.
  • Players who use the Wii Remote must take the batteries out of the Wii Remote when not playing. If the Wii Remote is still synced up to a Wii with the batteries in, you could unintentionally disrupt a match. If problems persist, a DQ may happen.
  • You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility (including battery issues with a Wii Remote), so bring an extra controller if possible and always check to make sure you're using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. Both parties need to agree if a match is to be paused or restarted because of these problems.
  • Intentional forfeiting, match fixing, splitting, and any other forms of bracket manipulation are not allowed and punishable by the TO.
  • No substitutions are allowed for singles or doubles.
  • Coaching is allowed only between games, not during. Failure to adhere to this will lead to punishment at the TO's discretion, which could include the removal from the venue.
  • The tournament organizer has the right to save/record any tournament match if possible and has the right to upload said match.
  • Regarding textures and other game hacks:
    • Players may request that any texture, stage, or other hacks be disabled during a tournament set. If this is unable to be done, they may switch to a different setup if available.
    • Players are not allowed to use any game altering hacks, such as no-tripping or model hacks. If someone is caught setting up a system they brought with such hacks enabled can face punishment at the TO's discretion.
  • Disrupting your opponent physically or intending to disrupt their play (through something such as screaming in a player's ear) will result in a warning or disqualification at the TOs discretion. Observers who physically disrupt players are to be dealt with as the Tournament Organiser sees fit.
