Sources for those who are better at frame data analysis/comparison and analysis in general

Everything I know about Roy so far
  • Roy’s Jumpsquat is only 3 frames, which is 2 frames faster than Smash 4’s 5 frames
  • His Short Hop, Weight, and Fall speed all seem the same (needs more analysis)
  • Jab and Utilt seem the same (needs more analysis)
  • Fsmash hitbox comes out 1 frame earlier
  • Dair’s landing lag is only 14 frames, as opposed to Smash 5’s 23 frames, which is 9 frames less

That’s about all I could find/notice. You can check the clips if you want to make sure for yourself. Just thought I'd share this considering people are talking about other character's changes. If you know of any other clips/information about Roy in Ultimate let me know, thank you.

Jab has more end lag and its hitbox comes out like one frame later, not as dependable as it was in Smash 4. Although I could be mistaken.

if you don`t know how to count frames in a YouTube video just set the video to 1080P 60fps then pause and use < and > to go backwards and forwards 1 frame respectively

Thank you. I decided to use this info to check out Roy's original trailer and get a good on some of his frame data was. Here are my numbers

Dair: Hits Link on Frame 17, has 14 to 15 frames of landing lag
Up-tilt: Hits Link on Frame 8, I believe the FAF is 41 or 42, but I'm not completely sure since there were freeze frames I didn't account for
Up-B: Hits Link on Frame 11.
The other moves were a bit more difficult to tell, so I left them out.

More things I know about Roy
He seems mostly the same, I'm interested in what is up with his dancing blade. It might just be a new animation but it could also end up being heavy dancing blade. Seems too fast to be heavy dancing blade though. idk for now. With the Roy being a fast faller he benefits greatly from these landing lag buffs. But for now he still looks like the funnest sword character, so I'm hopeful.

Just some notes

Double edge dance had the same frame data/speed as dancing blade in smash 4. The only difference it had were the knockback values. In smash ultimate it is 3 frames slower on start up but now each input seems more likely to connect which is a great buff.

Edit: Just realized that because up air kills, jab into up air maybe a kill confirm or a frame trap. This is amazing since dashdance canceling into jab is super viable in the neutral.

So that means:
Nair: 11 > 7
Fair: 13 > 7
Bair: 16 > 10
Uair: 14 > 8
Dair: 23 > 14
So apparently Roy has over 40% of his aerial landing lag shaved off.

I think that's the most I've seen so far.

I'm really looking forward to seeing our boy in action.

Smash wiki says the sweetspot on his hilt increased. Can any of you guys confirm that?

Roy's new DED is looking alot better then his smash4 DED by a long shot. It looks like we won't have to worry about the opponent poping out

It seems to be just as good as smash 4, the only thing that looked like it has an improved sweet spot hit box was his DED.

Also new Forward throw - https://youtu.be/t_o20Bk1Q1s?t=63
This could just be an animation thing but it definitely seems to have much less knockback.
EDIT: oops lol this was on the wiki ^^^
But I did notice that DED has basically no lag - https://youtu.be/U-VGFBFokyg?t=10

I mained Roy in Smash 4. Roy feels different now. His Up B has been nerfed. It used to be a kill move for Roy at about 90-110 percent at the bottom of FD or Battlefield. Now, the opponent has to be at a much higher percent (around 100 [puff] to 145 [heavy]). Fsmash also used to kill earlier.

Rage was one of Roy's best tools. If you survived long enough, your opponents were good as dead (as long as you didn't make any stupid mistakes). You could kill them at about 35 percent with an Fsmash.

He feels like he falls differently too.

I don't really know.

I also miss his screams.
