MIDWEST MELEE APEX 2013 QUALIFIER
October 6-7, 2012
Ann Arbor, MI

- INTRODUCTION -

It's the sequel to Road to Apex: The Big House! Last year's Melee super regional brought in 115 entrants from all over the Midwest, Canada, and even West Coast. Mega-international Apex 2013 is coming up in January, and for the second year in a row, we're an Apex qualifier! The Melee community here at the University of Michigan is excited for this second installment of The Big House, and we hope you'll join us.

This year we're upgrading to a two-day event, while keeping the schedule reasonable to allow Midwest residents to drive back home Sunday evening in time for work/classes the next day. We're offering a complete weekend pass at a very affordable price, while still providing the best possible tournament experience. This includes top OoR attendance again from both coasts! We'll also be doing giveaways to the first few online registrants.

- LOCATION -

Venue:
Pierpont Commons East Room
2101 Bonisteel Blvd
Ann Arbor, MI 48109

We're moving to a new venue! Pierpont Commons is the center of activity on UM North Campus, featuring food options, a convenience store, TV lounge, piano lounge, computer labs, and of course the room we'll be playing in all weekend.

Parking:
Parking is free at any of the blue lots, a short 5-minute walk to the venue. If you see signs that say "Parking Enforced 6am-5pm Mon-Fri" then you're at the right place. Make sure to drop off your TVs/setups/equipment first! The dropoff circle, marked green on the map, is literally a 10-second walk into the venue, so it will save you a lot of time and effort.

Travel:
If you are flying in:
First of all, considering the tourney schedule and airport-to-venue transportation options, you should be looking for a flight that arrives before 8:00pm Friday 10/5, and departs after 9:00pm Sunday 10/7. The best place to fly into is Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). You are responsible for arranging your own transportation from DTW to Ann Arbor; the best option is the Michigan Flyer bus (http://www.michiganflyer.com/) which is offering round-trip tickets for as low as $22 right now. Make sure to set your starting location as Detroit Metro Airport, MI and your destination to Ann Arbor (Central Campus Transit Center). From there, you'll be within walking distance of almost every local Ann Arbor player. For traveling so far to the tourney, you will be given housing priority, so contact the TO staff asap for help with local housing options.

---

If you are driving in:
There will be very limited free housing available for you in Ann Arbor, as most local players live in tiny campus apartments with no parking available on-site, and priority is being given to attendees flying in. If you still want free housing from a local player, make an inquiry on the Smashboards thread then contact anyone who replies to you to make arrangements; the TO staff cannot help out any more than that. Otherwise, we highly recommend splitting a hotel room. Here are three good options in town:

Red Roof Inn University of Michigan South:
3505 South State Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48108
This is 5 miles away from the venue, and rooms are going for ~$65/night right now.

Days Inn Ann Arbor:
2380 Carpenter Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48108
This is 4 miles away from the venue, and rooms are going for ~$80/night right now.

Red Roof Inn University of Michigan North:
3621 Plymouth Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48105
This is 2 miles away from the venue, and rooms are going for ~$85/night right now.
Food:
Inside the venue building:
Panda Express
Quizno’s
U-Go’s

Within a 10-minute walk directly north of the venue:
Wendy’s
Subway
Panera Bread
Qdoba
No Thai
Great Plains Burgers

* Dave's Modified Rule: You cannot counterpick the stage you last won on in a set unless agreed upon by the opponent.
* Player's Choice Clause: You may play by a rule outside of this ruleset if your opponent agrees to it as long as it does not deliberately delay the tournament process. In the event of a disagreement, house rules stand.

^Agreed, and I'm surprised this is associated with Apex 2013, especially after all the douchebaggery that Alex Strife was pulling at the last Big House.

However, Juggleguy is hands down the best TO east of the Mississippi and I will absolutely attend this event without question. West Coast bout to get hyped, I can feel it.
