First of all, I'd like to say I am sorry if anyone posted already, delete me immediately if that is the case.

Seeing a second Metroid level introduced today made me really excited, the reason being Ridley. It almost seems like Sakurai is calling out to Ridley fans, I feel that with a second level intact for the Metroid franchise, a second representative of the series is highly likely; one can ponder if this will happen, however, we do know who the most likely candidate would be..... RIDLEY. I hope I am right, my theory is not the most logical one, but, I feel really confident about it, i usally think things through before I pass judgement-this one being no different. Post comments if you will, positive or negative, just make sure you think of my point of view. With that I am out.......

Well, Captain Falcon got 2 stages in Melee although he was the only F-Zero representative.

All this means is that Metroid is the first series to have two stages (that are new). Not counting Temple since it is a past stage.

If anything it shows we might get a pick-me-up on the updates since pretty good ones are becoming more common. I am not too impressed by this new stage (there are other Metroid stages I feel would have done much better, but hey, Metroid without lava is a dream right?) but it is a stage nonetheless.

The thing that makes it more likely is that Norfair is Ridley's level.

What the!? In Melee, almost EVERY franchise got at LEAST two stages! And yet, most of the series' only got 1 rep. This doesn't prove anything.

Edit: I do hope Ridley's in, howvever.

First off, I'd like to say to the topic starter that I had the exact same thought when I first saw this new Metroid stage. Now onto other things.

In Melee each franchise got at least two stages, yes, but some of them were SSB64 stages rather than brand new ones (correct me if I'm wrong). With that aside, let me give you my point of view on this situation:

Norfair, as that other guy pointed out, is where you find Ridley in most of the games and this was also pointed out by Sakurai himself. Another Metroid stage that isn't a Ridley stage might show a few things. Combine this with his theme music on the Dojo and his high ranking on Sakurai's poll...and well, I hope this all shows that he's in.

But this isn't Melee. What makes you guys think this rule will still apply to Brawl?

You are right, I guess it is just I really want to see Ridley in, as most people have pointed out, the fact that norfair is ridleys home turf in the metroid series is a good sign, the one rep thing really doesn't help when you think of the history, but you never know, this is a whole new project, not melee.

Actually, Ridley made a cameo in Smash 64. He was in the background of Planet Zebes.

Ridley will appear in Brawl (in some form) 100% garunteed. ;)

You're wrong. Every franchise except Fire Emblem, Ice Climbers, and Game & Watch got at least two unique, new stages in Melee. The past stages were a third stage for the franchises that had them. Ice Climbers and G&W got only one, likely due to being retro characters and thus less of a focus for the developers, and Fire Emblem missed out because its stage couldn't be completed in time. Quick breakdown of Melee stages:

Mario (4): Princess Peach's Castle, Rainbow Cruise, Mushroom Kingdom, Mushroom Kingdom II.
Zelda (2): Hylian Temple, Great Bay.
Kirby (3): Green Greens, Fountain of Dreams, Dream Land (Past Stage).
Pokèmon (2): Pokèmon Stadium, Pokèfloats.
DK (3): Kongo Jungle, Jungle Japes, Kongo Jungle (Past Stage).
Star Fox (2): Corneria, Venom.
Metroid (2): Brinstar, Brinstar Depths.
Yoshi (3): Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Story, Yoshi's Island (Past Stage).
Mother (2): Onett, Fourside.
F-Zero (2): Mute City, Big Blue.
Ice Climbers (1): Icicle Mountain.
Game & Watch (1): Flatzone.
SSB Original (2): Final Destination, Battlefield.

Anyway, personally, I don't think today's stage means anything for Ridley. Given the distribution of stages in the rushed Melee, I fully expect every series with a PC to get at minimum two stages in Brawl, possibly three, probably more for the biggest ones given Mario had four in Melee. If anything, Norfair being Ridley's lair is more important by far than the Frigate Orpheon.

Norfair is the first place you encounter Ridley, and Frigate Orpheon is the first place you encounter Meta-Ridley.

and they're both stages...

and Ridley isn't in the background of either of 'em...

hmm....

How many stages did almost every game series get in Melee? What's that? Census says 2. 2.

2.

That goes for Metroid, too, with its one character rep.
I would like to see Ridley in, but let's face it, he's an SSE boss.

Due to the spam and flames that comes from every Ridley topic, they are unfortunately banned from the forum, unless he's confirmed as a playable character.
