Ridley looks disgusting

Everything in Smash is a "what if" with no relation to the actual series the characters came from. What you said does not disprove the figurines theory. The figurine theory is supported by Smash openings, and even the amiibos.
It's not a "what if" it's actual and literal. The characters have come into the "Smash universe." If I interpret that sentence at face value, you are asserting a demonstrable falsehood. (Ganondorf disliking Link in subspace, off the top of my head). Every single thing about the characters is a "relation to the actual series the characters come from." So perhaps you need to expound on what you're implying because I don't get it. Villager got a LITERAL invite to Smash.

Also, characters being the actual characters themselves does not contradict the figurine theory. I never said anything about them not being trophies. Them being trophies and being the actual characters are not mutually exclusive claims.

I feel that those unsatisfied with Ridley's design haven't quite grasped how Sakurai managed to finally implement him as a playable character-and no, I'm not talking about the fan demand(basically not the why, but the how) nor do I see 100% validity in the complaint of "too small, he bastardized Ridley".

The characters are the size they are because you're not playing as Charizard, Mewtwo, Olimar or ROB but rather as animated figurines thereof. Which is exactly why Ridley's gangly appearance is a problem. It makes his ability to be a genuine figurine seem highly improbable.?
Like amiibos.
Which Ridley have one

Yes, Ridley is apparently getting an amiibo. I am very curious, though, as to how/if Nintendo have managed to kidproof something like that.
Looks like all of the points are rounded off. Unsure if that's enough but I image the lack of points helps.

I wish I knew how to paint figures. I'd give it it's Metroid 1 alternate colors

what an odd complaint... it makes him way more harrowing. Bowser and ganon aside, just think about how often he's been "killed" in Metroid games only to come back over and over again. Doesn't help that, the continuity of the series builds upon that. Meta Ridley happened for a reason my guys. And the current appearance he has in this game looks to be the transition between normal ridley and meta ridley. Right before needing surgery into cybernetic implants.

Well I don't see the need to kidproof it. First off, the game's got an age rating of 12/E10 and figures don't really need the same kind of rating as a video game. Case and point all the lewd anime figures I saw at Comic Con alongside the porn I accidentally stumbled upon

Yeah. Ridley dying and coming back over and over again actually fits with the tone of the Metroid series. He is basically an unkillable pest. Not as strong as the main antagonist, but also never letting Samus in peace. Kinda like Aliens if they were condensed in one being instead of a swarm-like species.

The series technology and mythos also support Ridley coming back, and he is not the only one to do so. Dark Samus was reborn from Metroid Prime, I do believe both Kraid and Mother Brain also came back at least once, and so did Phantoon, unless the Other M version is a different being entirely.

I actually can see Smash!Ridley also as Ridley after his Omega Ridley form. All that Phazon couldn't do good things to his body after being beaten by Samus.

As much as I love Ridley's design, I'm surprised that they made him even more unhealthy than his scrawny appearance in Brawl. After all, the games after Brawl seemed to be transitioning away from the dark and gritty renditions of characters in favor of supporting a more bright and saturated aesthetic, with Bowser a notable change. Hell, even the Legend of Zelda gang finally moved past their Twilight Princess designs.

I appreciate how disheveled and disgusting he looks, really adds character. Sort of like mud on a pick-up truck. My only complaint is that his colors are fairly drab, although I suppose it's better from the eyesore that Other M's Ridley sported.

Ridley is supposed to look dark, intimidating, and ugly. I mean, he does come from a franchise that has a more realistic vibe.

Ridley looks sickly, raw, and despicable, but not to the point of his design being morbid or offensive.

He's always kinda been like this, at least prior to Meta Ridley and whatnot. It's only Other M that not only gave him a more muscular structure, but also removed his weird all-too-long neck, and I felt we lost something important that day, aside from Samus' dignity (kek).

I think this is the perfect compromise. It's as if they took Ridley from the first Metroid, and fused the Super Metroid variant into his design, and even with a good sliver of Other M's look, and we got a very well represented purple angry space Pteradactyl.

I don't think Other M Ridley's muscle is that bad either, I just kinda prefer him dinky and skeletal and weird like he was before.
Which he is now so I guess I have nothing to complain about lol

And yeah that beak was weiiiiird.

I like it. This isn't some typical Saturday morning cartoon villain we're talking about here. This is a villain who is cunning, cruel, sadistic, and brutal. It's a sharp contrast to the rest of the cast, which is fitting for someone like Ridley.

I never understood the complaints about Ridley being hunched over when that's always been a thing. SmUsh and Other M are literally the only times he looked so upright for extended periods of time (one of the taunts for the former and his flying animation for the latter), but even then, it's still not ramrod straight.
He's basically a large vulture dragon xenomorph.

Just look at him, he's all boney, there's gaps in his outer hard skin where you can see his actual goddamn muscle fibers, there are crevices and deformities all over his body, and you can even see what looks like birth marks on his head.

He actually looks like a terrifying space dragon, good job whoever made his detailed render, it's perfect.
When I first saw this thread, I actually thought you were dissing Ridley's design but shortly after I 100% agree. He looks so terrifying and he kinda looks odd when put next to the rest of the roster but that just makes him stand out. Thank you Sakurai

Seriously, why would they make a bottlecap-sized Olimar figurine?

I am well aware that that exists but it does not look "just fine" to me. It looks like it'll have serious durability issues, despite them obviously exaggerating some of the limb segments compared to his in game model.
I will, however, admit that I was wrong and that looks can be decieving at a later date if it turns out that we don't get a good number of kids breaking these.

Most of it's probably rubberish, so that likely won't be an issue.

I personally want the Ridley figurine to destroy a child’s toy box.

Also, as a kid who had a lot of toys in the 80s/90s we had some gnarly stuff to go along with the cuddly.

He’s not out of place because he sets the tone of what the dark amongst these designs would be.

I think Ridley looks scary (...if not kinda cute in a certain way) and from what I've seen of him and Metroid games in general, it fits very well. It might clash with others, but really, Metroid is a darker franchise than most of those represented in Smash.

As for the whole toys thing, there were a lot of stupidly fragile or dangerous toys (like some of the Transformers toys and those dolls that generated sparks when rolling over surfaces). You can also say that the kid grew up and now he's collecting figurines. Y'know, like those expensive ones with ridiculous level of details and all that stuff. That would "explain" the improvement in graphics.

The glee he demonstrates in one of his victory taunts is pretty infectious.

What sticks out the most to me about this design are the ''stitches'' on his legs, the rest of his features could be attributed to weird alien biology
but those stitches truly demonstrate the life-threatening injuries he receives on a regular basis.

Maybe so, but it is also implied that Ridley is the only creature in the galaxy that even comes close to matching Samus (and also isn't some clone of her).
Adam states that he's as big of a threat as a small army of unfreezable Metroids, and he's managed to get the upper hand on Samus several times.
Particularly in Samus Returns where he had her dead to rights.

God, I'm so mad. I should've bought Samus Returns but I remembered Ridley wasn't in the original but then I saw they put him in on Youtube the other day. What a surprise that would've been on launch day.

The only issue i can see is kids breaking parent's Ridley figurine, but i dunno if thats nintendo fault really, and most parent's that would purchase a Ridley amiibo probably have other figures that are waay more fragile.
I want to quote this comment casue i really dont see any problem with ridley amiibo and kids(as longas the kid is old enough to have a decent motor skills)

i remember that as a kid 6 years old, i had both, a couple of silverhawk toys, a couple of teenage mutant ninja toys and a couple of Aliens toys. it was never a problem donatello coexisting with a panther based xenomorph or a bull based xenomorph (it was a toy line, liberties were taken, ok?) and in fact, the panther based xenomorph eventually lost one of his limbs, yet it was a personal favorite of mine during lots of years, crippled or not XD.

my point is that when young kids have toys and they play with them... they dont mind that much if said toy lost a wing with time, or stuff like that. heck, i see it on a five years old that still loves to play with his pokemon toys, even if some of them are amputated beyond recognition.

His design doesn't look bad But, maybe they should have made him look more Brawl color like from the Subspace or possibly Metroid Prime.
It would make Ridley more colorful and recognizable for the rooster.
