Came across this video and I was like wtf and then I searched Rick Perry and came across this article. Didn't know he was an actual person/governor of Texas:

Like the Higgs Boson, Rick Perry’s latest ad must be seen to be believed. But I’m somewhat relieved that the Higgs Boson might exist. This ad just fills me with despair, the kind of despair I only get when someone forces me to sing all 12 verses of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” with hand gestures.

Even after you’ve seen it once, you think, “No. Surely this is a parody.”

It scrapes the bottom of the demagogue barrel, somehow managing to invoke the dubious menace of Gays in the Military, the War on Christmas, and the need for Faith to Rebuild this Great Nation — in fewer than thirty seconds. The only way it might possibly be worse would be if it referenced the brainwashing Muppets.

Here’s the text:

“I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a Christian,” the Texas governor says. “But you don’t need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.

“As president, I’ll end Obama’s war on religion. And I’ll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage. Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again.”

First, those Muppets indoctrinate them. Then, our kids get to school and the gay soldiers of Barack Obama prevent them from celebrating Christmas. It’s abominable.

Teachers are even telling them not to believe in Santa.

Anyone who wants to celebrate Christmas in Barack Obama’s repressive culture had better watch out and better not cry, because he is monitoring you. If someone sees a child celebrating that Holiday That Shall Not Be Named, Barack Obama will come sap their initiative and force their families to become dependent on welfare! At least that is what Rick Perry implies.

Barack Obama hates Christmas, the whole Christmas season. He won’t let you sing any carols, except for the one that includes “gay apparel.”

Christmas break? Unheard of. Christmas pageants? Nowhere in sight. There is no White House Christmas Tree. There is the White House Generic Seasonal Pine.

At recess, a few daring believers sneak into the Christmas Closet, where they hang tinsel and sing “O Little Town of Bethlehem.” But if someone reports them to Barack Obama, he swoops down on their school and forces them to enjoy kale and write “Oil Tycoons Are Naughty Men” on the board a dozen times.

Not only that, but our kids can’t pray in schools! No wonder we’re doing so badly on standardized tests — unassisted by institutionalized prayer, what hope do we have? Other nations are vastly outpacing us in Reading Comprehension, Critical Thinking, and the all-important category of Ability to Accept Jesus as Your Lord and Savior, second only to Math skills in terms of what employers look for from recent graduates. This is not what the Founders had in mind when they explicitly said that thing in the Constitution about an establishment of religion. Something about making no law — it doesn’t matter.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof?”

See, that’s exactly the kind of obnoxious fact your kids pick up if they don’t spend enough time in the classroom praying.

Rick Perry understands what’s important. Learning the names of cabinet departments or honing debating skills? Please. What is this, a state without an established Christian religion?

Faith has made America strong. It’s time to put it back where it belongs, in the classroom. Thanks to Barack Obama, children these days are lost and adrift, lacking any sense of what Christmas is or what schools are for: praying and celebrating Christmas.

But Rick Perry understands the importance of prayer.

I’d be more worried if I thought his campaign still had one.
Only thing that comes to mind is that's kinda ****ed up :/

Still don't understand why your politicions do this. We have a monarchy and a country religion yet we're much more secular than yours when technically you're supposed to be one of the most secular countries in the world, hence your constitution.

These kind of politicions are giving the US the social progression of a 3rd world country. If a politicion said what Perry said over here there'd be an uproar. You can't have someone trying to influence the state with their religion.

^There kinda is an uproar about it. Also don't worry; this guy doesn't have a prayer shot in hell of getting even close to elected.

It's funny to me because the pilgrims who initially came here frowned on Christmas big time and our government barely gave a **** about it for years after it was formed, but now that we don't call it CHRISTmas we're all going to hell. Or something.

It's okay; Rick Perry may speak for god, but it's more than obvious god has denied Rick Perry. This is the move of a desperate man.

I lost him after he made the comment comparing gays being able to serve in the military and people not being allowed to pray in school.

Last time I tried to do that someone said "I thought we already talked about this" and shut me down.

anyways, **** Rick Perry. All the time spent watching Rick Perry be a ******* could be better spent watching Bernie Sanders be the only good politician in the US

Oh, I thought it was hilarious seeing him shoot himself in the foot again and again. What I loved the most was how you can tell he was actually serious. This is definitely something worthy of Kimmel/Leno to joke about.

It reflects poorly on your country when gays serving in the military and not celebrating Christmas are considered reasons not to vote for someone.

But then again, it also reflects poorly on your country that people would vote for someone simply because he was black.

So, what magical land do you come from where every single voting citizen votes entirely for rational and relevant reasons? Australia does not fit under that blanket either, so you must be from somewhere else.

This is anectodal, but I don't know a single person who voted for Obama who admitted to doing so solely because he's black. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a good amount of people did, but like I said...there are stupid and ignorant voting citizens in every country and making this point into some "heh stupid Americans" thing is pretty elitist and unnecessary.

It's also classic Dre that you said "It reflects poorly on your country when gays serving in the military and not celebrating Christmas are considered reasons not to vote for someone." what about people who believe that those are good reasons to vote FOR someone? You know, like the demographic this political ad is aimed at and the people who created said political ad. Is that somehow okay with you but not the other way around? Or did you just forget to include "...are considered reasons to vote for or against someone"?

Whoa relax.

I'm not saying that the entire country voted for Obama because he's black, or that everyone in America will not vote against someone if they're against Christmas or support gays in the military. I'm not that stupid.

However, if this is the message of the advertisement, then there must be a market for that message. The fact that there is a body of people who actually will not vote for someone for those reasons reflects poorly on a country.

And why do you assume I consider Australia intellectualy superior? I don't. We're one of the most politically ignorant countries there is.

It's really frustrating when people keep assuming things about me. The reason why the pool room hates me but the debate hall likes me (now) is because the DHers have learned enough about me to drop their initial assumptions.

Honestly Luigitoilet, I guarantee most things you think of me are probably wrong.

The general population in every country is relatively stupid and ingrained with a certain mindset, you can't really hold it against Americans per se, they just get more attention in the media because of their status in the world and their enormous population.

More people means more idiots, it's a simple ratio thing.

That's pretty blasphemous of me to say considering I'm English and all and it's my duty to insult Americans at every turn, but oh well.

Anyway, there are always right wing groups that try to seize on things like this, it's not really as big a deal as people think. Ultimately if you don't have faith enough in your society not to vote as a majority for organisations like this, then perhaps you should consider emigration.

There are always extreme groups, but they're called extreme for a reason, because the majority doesn't accept their views, and that's all that matters.

The interesting thing though is that many non-American westerners constantly criticise and insult America and it's people, yet these people and their countries have adopted so many American products and customs.

I just realised you have over 28 000 posts and have only been here since 2008. Talk about commitment to the cause.
