I hope that if they do get in, we get some dang good music. The music selection from XC2 was a shame.

Don't think the sword thing is that big a deal in regards to Rex. Sakurai did say he would've made the cut in the base roster, and we've only gotten Hero and Byleth since then. Besides, it's more that Sakurai is looking for new things characters can add to the table. Just look at Hero's spell menu and Byleth's other weapons. The Blade system alone is enough to create a unique mechanic that would overwrite any concerns over being a swordie. It certainly doesn't help, but I don't think it'd be the reason we don't get Rex. If he does miss the cut it'll be because of poor timing.

I think that's the key thing to look at. The goal of the DLC characters seems to be bringing new play mechanics and fortunately for Rex, the blade system is the perfect foundation for trying that.

I try explaining a reason for Rex in the newcomer thread but it’s apparently not working. There are good reasons than what sakurai said but Only some they think that promote it’s recent release than 2 is the more possible option but what would even promoting a remake of a 10 year old game be counted as a new world when we have :ultshulk: a xbc 1 stage & multiple tracks from 1? I wouldn’t be mad at fiora tho ngl but I just think picking xc2 would be best to continue the new world trend. I just wish I could find a good reason for him I know there is one but idk I just wish i had better counterarguments

Bruh just give it up. There are valid reasons to think Rex has a chance and valid reasons to be skeptical. You don't have to convince everyone in that thread to be like "You know what? Rex is 100% gonna be in." Just let people have their opinions.

How's this: you shouldn't keep pressing the issue because eventually people will get really sick of Rex discussions and then he'll turn into a meme like Fire Emblem discussions. Just let the Rex conversations happen naturally. Trust me, the last thing you want is people to get sour on Rex and then if he does happen to get in, people are disappointed about it.

It's like how a lot of people are sour on Geno simply because of the fanbase.

Well, new isn't always a stipulation as Terry and Banjo & Kazooie prove and Even ARMS had some age. It would seem a bit odd to me to add another XC1 fighter even to plug the remake since that still leaves two games in a three game series without fighters. As for that thread, don't worry about it too much. They seem unusually hostile toward Rex from what I've heard.

As some have pointed out on the main thread, Rex could still advertise the series. For one, Shulk and Rex in Smash could lead to people playing their games, then find the other's games by extension. Another thing is that we already have a lot of XC1 content, so it would make no sense to cram in another character from there. Lastly, the survey sent out after XCDE's launch asked if people played that game because of XC2, and apparently many people answered yes. I think Rex still has some plugging power left in him.

Counterpoint: that survey came out after XCDE's launch but the fighter's pass has already been chosen. If Rex is in, he's already in at this point. I understand the logic and benefit of like, "did this game influence you to get this other one", but all that matters is if Nintendo thought that way about Rex like, 9 months ago or however long.

Edit: By the way, I'm sorry if I'm coming off as a hardass, I swear I want Rex in the game--Rex and Pyra are one of my most wanted--I'm just trying to keep my expectations in check and think about the situation neutrally.

Oh, I definitely get keeping expectations low. Realistically, there will probably be a lot of disappointment for me this pass (though it got off decently well at least).

I would think, however, that Rex may be on the more likely end of first party contenders. He does have a lot going for him especially if they decide to spread out the representation of the series. But on the flip side, predicting Smash newcomers isn't an exact science and can lead to even more disappointment.

Course, that still doesn't change people actively wanting Rex to get screwed...again.

I agree with this. Maybe I'm just ignorant, but I have a hard time thinking of many other first party characters who are in as favorable a position as Rex is. Definitely a Pokemon. Like I said, I'm drawing a blank atm, but if anyone has any other ideas of first party characters who are in a good position, I'd be interested in seeing what the first party landscape is like.

Well, call it a bias, but I really don't want a Pokemon. I don't like the series, and, honestly, many of them are kind of just, you know, Pokemon. No wonder they use the anime to help pick cause how else are you going to decide out of hundreds of options? Even then a lot of them just aren't special. Just...Pokemon. Usually not even a special one. The Trainers and Mewtwo being key exceptions.

Plus, I don't know how likely it is honestly. They don't seem to treat it in the same manner as Fire Emblem, and, well, Pokemon is kind of a legal mess it seems, and the other companies involved can seemingly cause issues. They may not want to go through the hassle.

Yeah, while I am a fan of Pokemon, I wouldn't be upset at all if we don't get a Sword/Shield rep. Not only are those titles among the weaker entries in the series, there aren't really any Gen 8 designs that scream Smash Bros. to me the way Lucario and Greninja did. If the second pass is leaning more into the first party picks, as I suspect that it is, then Rex is just as likely as a Pokemon IMO, since they're both from series with recent releases that Nintendo has already pushed in other games, such as Tetris 99.

well sakurai managed to pick pokemon with out referring to the anime the last two times
Greninja literally turns into Ashe Greninja now in its Final Smash. Now, that's a new thing admittedly, but I thought Greninja was somewhat relevant in the anime. Could be wrong, I don't really follow either.

As for Incineroar, that seemed to almost be more wanting a wrestling fighter if anything. Or at the very least helped. I mean, it has, what, three fire moves counting its FS? Now, not to say that spot wasn't reserved for Pokemon though, but that may have been a big factor in the decision.

Plus, they did add spirits post launch which, obviously doesn't deconfirm anything, but it was purposely done post launch while they held back on TH spirits for obvious reasons. That said, I think that may be old enough that it happened before pass 2 was finalized and therefore may not matter.

In the end, prediction may be a fun exercise, but likely pointless in the end. I do like sometimes thinking of what they'd do with him or what other stuff would be added. Like, what songs, and which might get remixed, but the thing that interests me most outside of the fighter may be the choice of stage for him. I think someone else mentioned it, but the playhouse would probably be a good one. Important earlyish location which could pretty easily feature cameos (would be awesome if they were stage hazards).

I also considered that if they added assist trophies that they could make Siren into one that just kind of shows up like Rathalos. It flies down in the background and just starts firing at the opponents.

While it is heavily associated with the game, I feel like going with Gormott for the stage would just get non-fans to confuse it with Gaur Plains. I'd love Uraya or Mor Ardain instead.

gormott was only pushed super hard in 2 marketing because smash base recognition

grass area smash bros shulk game new game shulk game also grass area in new game also in smash woah

there's a reason why bionis leg was featured so much in de marketing and also called "gaur plains" when that's like maybe 1/6 the entire grasslands area

Mor Ardain seems like the best choice for a stage from 2.

Distinct from Gaur Plain, and has what's considered the best area music.

Yeah, I hope it doesn't succumb to Donkey Kong syndrome where almost all (only reason I say almost is because 75m exists) DK stages are similar themes. Plus, I don't think Gormott has too much going for it in as far as really stand out geography whereas Gaur Plains had a nice view of the Mechonis (even if it was modified). Yeah, I guess you might could do a nice shot of the Cloud Sea, but you could do that at the Playhouse too with the extra bit of getting to see a bit of the titan depending on the angle. Could even have the titan swimming around to show off other titans.

While the music definitely should be included in the DLC, I'm not sure about Mor Ardain itself. What would the stage be? I'll admit, the Playhouse would be kind of lacking in terms of general layout without something to spice it up such as added platforms or even some nice cameo stage hazards, but I still think it'd be a good choice. It's important. It's early, and it's a singular location that you can pin down. Otherwise, some sort of touring stage would be nice to really show off the world as that's something Gaur Plains didn't really do directly, but it did show off the Mechanis which gives some sense of scope I suppose.

A moving stage where you ride on scaled-up versions of Alba Cavanich's railcars. I think it'd be pretty appropriate considering their existence is already for the purpose of platforming. ...At least in the eyes of the party.

Ultimate is way too oversaturated with early-game green grass stages, so anything but Gormott, please. I'd sooner take Mythra's Smùide Hot Spring bathwater.

Eh, the cars seem so minor. I don't think you ever even have to use them.

But I do agree with not wanting Gormott. I for one got kind of tired of it in the early game...and of course that's the one they brought back for Torna. I get it, it was probably the easiest, but I would have rather seen Mor Ardain back before it was such a wasteland or even Uraya as that was supposedly where Mythra was awakened...not entirely sure why considering the events of Torna.

IMO if they were to choose a Xenoblade stage, they should choose a stage that reflects the wonderful vistas that Xenoblade 2 has, and there's 2 locations that aren't late game that fit the bill for me: Uraya and Leftheria.

Leftheria would be great in the sense that it's the most appropriate for Rex himself. It's why Kongo Falls aka Fonsett Village is used for Rex's Spirit Battle. (And there's no doubt in my mind that Kongo Falls = Fonsett Village as it's also used for Zeke and Fonsett is where Round 3 of his fight takes place.)

So, how many times have the rest of you played through XC2? I got it only fairly recently so I've beat it, and I played a NG+ run with the DLC though I stopped in chapter 10 (or in between. Not entirely sure if I triggered the chapter, but I think I had to to get a specific blade) after I think I hit most of the DLC I really cared to do. I am still missing a few blades. I think one base one, one Torna one, and Elma.

So for those interested, Chuggaconroy (a Let's Player who specialises in Nintendo) recently confirmed that his next project will be the single biggest one in the history of the channel. It should be noted that his longest Let's Play is currently his Xenoblade Chronicles LP, with some even saying it's one of the main reasons for the game's rise in popularity. While a lot of people are speculating his next project will be Xenoblade X, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be Xenoblade 2.

Two fresh runs and a NG+ playthrough.

I started another file recently for ****s and giggles but I'm not sure if I'll continue with it right now since I have other games I'd like to play first.
