Well when Brawl comes out, we're all going to be salivating until we hit 40. Sure we can find out everything on our own but...

If you were to purchase a strategy guide, which publisher would you choose?
I believe Prima is making one, and it makes sense that Nintendo would have the official.
Are their any others?? Brady Games?? Would anyone else be foolish enough to try?? Your thoughts and opinions please. Yes mods i did use the search function and found nothing of the sort.

found this release date funny

Wow, I haven't purchased a strategy guide since Pokemon Silver. I still think GameFAQs walkthroughs should be effective enough for beating the game if you're stuck at any point.

Why buy a strategy guide when we have the internet?
Good point. There's no porn in strategy guides.
Anyways, I only heard Prima was making one. And since I will obsess with Brawl, I will unlock everything, erase, buy a guide, and repeat.

The internet is great and all, but for certain games I really like to have the strategy guide to hold in my hands, and to just sit back and read.

I don't usually buy strategy guides though...I did for Galaxy, as it was the first Mario game in 5 years. I bought the $30 hardcover version, and so far I've only used it to find like, 5 or so stars. LOL get my point?

And for Brawl, I'm def. going to get a guide...most likely the one that comes with a free poster, or a free add in anything for that matter.

Now I'm going to end up spoiling every character in the game for me by purchasing the guide just for a free poster.
Thanks a lot, Director.

Some people prefer to have a strategy guide since it's right there in front of you and you can read it while you play.

I personally won't be getting one but if I did it'd probably be the nintendo officials. I loved their pokemon rby and gsc ones :) they were like a magazine.

Print out the strategy guide from GameFaq's. It should only be around 3-4 pages.

The only time I had to print out strategy guides was for Pokemon Silver, Final Fantasy 10, and Megaman Battle Network series.

No I never bought a official guide because I had sense enough to just use the internet.
The only thing, I repeat, ONLY thing Strategy guides offer that GameFaq's doesn't is pictures.

Ima get a strategy guide. just for the stats and noobish "THEZE TEEMZ R GEWD" stuff.

No, Im going to get the strategy guide to..

A. Help beat the game w/o un-needed Spoilers on Smashboards.
B. Look back years and years after I bought it and say "Wow. this thang r beet up". Like I do with my Melee guide today.
C. Look at the pretty pictures
D. -NOT- use it as a walkthrough for Subspace emmisary. because they alwase reveal whats about to happen next.

ooo but this way it's all shiny and pretty.

I'm not really a strategy guide buyer myself (pokemon rby and gsc, but I didn't have the internet back then) but i'm sure they have other reasons. I guess some people prefer not to look at a plain black and white wall of text.

yea thats true. but i rarly use stragety guides online to guide(spoil) me through the whole game unless I'm honestly completely stuck. In that case I just want to quickly read how to get pass it and thats it. not worth buying an entire guide for 1 part you're stuck on.

If there is one that has really nice art I might buy it, otherwise I'm going to figure it out on my own/use the internets.

ok im just putting this out there--there was a special limited edition Legend of Zelda TP hardcover guide in brown leather binding i bought it mostly basically for the awesome-ness-level

if there was a special edition book with extra info by nintendo with special art and excluisve cover, would you purchase??'

so im not referring to the guide as assistance well not in these boards--the game would provide the basics we need to get where we're headed{{that's right i only used the thread title to net yous guys i here BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!))

so as collection-i know there are some people who don't have copies reserved, others who have one and others who have multiples on reserve, at least one for collection mint purposes ((...that's me: Big Whoop-Wanna fight about it??))??

Gamefaqs is like the Wikipedia of gaming guides...cept it tends to be more reliable.....but Strategy Guides always have nice pictures in them...something to look at when your not playing

so classic materials items have no place in this digital world?? or at least it's not worth it for a game??

just glad to see people's responses, personally i use gamefaqs as well it's free and for fighting games you get up to date opinions and techniques but for me personally sometimes i find fighting guides entertaining for example my friend purchased budokai three, which was unnessary as only what 5 chars max have an extensive array of techniques, everyone else is pure fanservice cashing on the dying franchise, and it doesn't go into any detail regarding the actual fists-and-feet combo system, which is actually suprising fluid

That's $30 you could have spent on Brawl!

all the secret chars will be out way before feburary. More like January 24th. :p

Once Japan gets ahold of the game, it will be all leaked onto the internet, and will be posted everywhere. I'm sure there will be pictures, videos, and what not covering the entire game.

Assuming the guide comes out before the game, and it has actually nice info, I may get it. I love guides, but a lot of the paper ones seem to be going down in quality anymore. I remember seeing a lot of stupid mistakes in the last few I bought (granted, it's been awhile). If it had how to unlock every character and in-depth info on them all, I'd definitely get it.

I'm a bit of a collection freak. Any time I buy a really good game I typically buy the strategy guide because some part of me feels a sense of order that GameFaqs won't supply. A few days ago I pulled out the Melee guide and was kind of amused at how earnest the guide seemed to be at helping you play but was really off base as far as the game is played now (and probably even back then ).

I'm also a sucker for sleek-looking charts, and in print they just look a lot better than online. Probably the Trophy/Sticker/Assist Trophy/etc. lists at the back will get the most use.

Doubt I would even get a guide for Brawl. If I have a question I will be here/google, and that probably won't happen for a long time.

Last strategy guide I got was for Metroid Prime 2 (Shiny cover......), prior to that, I don't even remember.

Internet typically works for me, but if I were to buy one, I typically go with what Nintendo supplies.

If there is an official Nintendo guide, I'll probably pick it up.
If there is an official Nintendo guide that is hard covered/specially bound/etc. I WILL pick it up.

I'd only get it because of how much I'm hyped about this game though--I haven't bought a guide in YEARS. These days I use the internets, and even then I only quickly read what I need to know to get past the part I'm stuck on then go back to playing on my own.

Well, my Melee guide was from Brady Games, that had some "good" Melee strategies at the time. I might keep with tadition and buy that guide, or just get the Official Nintendo Guide (I wanted that one for Melee initially).

P.S. I remember when I found out in Nintendo Power that there would be more secret characters than the ones in the unknown spot, and I was wowed when I saw Dr.Mario, Mewtwo, and Falco revealed.

I like owning strategy guides for certain games, and I'll definitely want one for Brawl. However, I'm picky about my guides, and I'll want one that's about 500 pages to cover all of the content in this game. I'll want it to show EVERYTHING: pictures of every trophy and sticker and descriptions of how to get them, full maps of every SE stage and boss strategies, names and damage outputs for every character attack, pictures and explanations of every final smash, a list of all songs available in the game, names explanations and strategies for all events, full maps and strategies for 5 all target test stages, full bios on each character including debut game/year and how to unlock them, full maps of all stages with explanations of hazards and how to unlock them, pictures of all items with explanations and strategies for using them, pictures and explanations of ALL pokémons and assist trophies... you get the idea :D

If such a guide is not made, I demand that this community pool its efforts to make one >_>

I will buy the strategy guide so I would have something to read at school. And to show my friends who is in the game.

Strategy guides are collector's items for me. They were especially helpful when I was 9-12, because I didn't know how to work the Internet, and I sucked at games. Plus I didn't mind spoilers. Seriously, I couldn't play a Zelda or Final Fantasy without the guide, I always got scared of being stuck.

Nowadays, I'm finding it harder to justify 15-20 bucks for a little booklet with pictures, especially since I can get it all for free on GameFAQs. Not to mention that I'm better at video games, so I don't actually need the guides anymore, and if I -do- get stuck, taking 2 minutes to walk to the computer and checking online is better than paying 15 bucks. I got all 120 stars in Mario Galaxy within a week, without any guide...
