a year end break, or a way too wean hardcore smashers like us off of dojo updates because updates are coming to an end?

it has always been a question of if the updates would continue once the game was released, in japan, or everywhere, or if it would end. Maybe this break is trying to get us used to not having updates, so when jan 24th comes, or when feb 10th comes, we wont miss the updates as much, not that it matters since we have the game. But maybe he is trying to ween us off of the updates?

Discuss, also i noticed they have the icon for the wii disc channel ready, brawl is sooo close!

January 7th is JUST that next Monday, we are missing a single week. It makes sense, I wouldn't really like just a half-week of updates anyways (Jan. 1 is a Tuesday)

Hmm... Maybe so. They do plan these updates 5 weeks in advance. They've probably already come up with the rest of the updates until release or are going to over their break so it won't be such a hassle. Heck, all they have to do is press enter, or better yet let there be a program for posting updates. Simple stuff really. I think taking a break for them will be good. Wow... I just noticed something though... They may be running out of things to tell us.

evilflame, i'm sorry for what i'm about to say, but it's who I am.

ween is actually spelled wean.

but getting back to the topic, I think sakurai (and i'm about to dive into his head here) wants to keep some really cool things secret, so he can cruise the forums on feb. 11 and see what everyone loves about the things he doesn't tell us.

there is alot the could tell us, because almost every update we get answers one question, and asks like 12. I think he is just saving stuff for the release, especially since on jan 24th we get everything we want!

However, what confuses some people is that they've made no special updates for holidays, so really, why should they take a holiday break? They do the updates in advance, after all. Why now of all weeks, when the game is near release and it's become even harder to wait? Why not at least ease our pain by finally ending the character drought before hitting us with this very first update drought?

Sakurai really can be cruel.

Ah, smashboards... here, no DOJO update can -ever- mean just what is written in it... Here, it's always:

Did you read today's update? Is it really <insert information>,

or is it....

¿CONSPIRACY!?

They did, however, have "special" updates for Super Smash Bros. events - most importantly, Sonic when he was released to the press. Also, what would a special holiday update entail? I mean, they can't go 'Santa Claus confirmed for Brawl' or anything like that - they're still updating the place, so every day is relevant information that adds up to a complete information site, not something adjusted to a certain date.

Right, I don't exactly mean that. However, it would have been nice to get significant updates on significant days. Americans got kicked in the teeth on December 3rd, and Christmas was decent, but far from a "megaton".

I really just feel they've made some poor decisions regarding the timing of this hype machine. They released all the characters they planned to release back in October, which is bad. The characters would have been better to be spaced out a bit more. Now right as anticipation should be beggining to build for the release, there will be no updates at all.

Only 14+ updates till release in Japan after all. I have no idea how he could raise the hype of this game back to a fever pitch unless 50%-100% of those updates were characters, which I highly doubt.

Exactly

We can get an update that says: "GENO IS NOT I REPEAT NOT IN THE GAME WHATSOEVER, DONT EVEN TRY TO DEBATE IT, HE IS NOT IN THE GAME AT ALL!!!"

And people will be like, "He typed in all caps, that could mean sarcasm?!"

Oh, I definitely agree. The hype back in, say, September was much bigger than it is now (it's even gone so far that people have gone back to hating Brawl. heh). It's pretty poor planning on Nintendo's side, but I assume that Sakurai didn't know about the delay until very soon before the announcement.

New years is the biggest holiday in Japan, the japenese can take off work days in advance, and days after, u can't blame Sakurai for celebrating a huge holiday in his culture.

I'm saying to check the DOJO!!, the notice box says holiday break. You wanted to know WHY the DOJO!! was taking a break.
no i was saying maybe it isnt really a holiday break, maybe he is just trying to wean us off of the updates for the eventual end of updates after brawl is released, unless he is continueing then after brawl.

Maybe Sakurai and the people that run the different Dojos are just taking a break (like most schools, colleges, workplaces)?

its just a holiday break, they always do this in japan. The next naruto and bleach episodes have been postponed a week to give them a holiday break.

I hadn't read that notice, what a piece of ****, if we don't get a character on Jan. 7, I'm gonna kill someone.
No more character updates untill brawl? here is my theory, the characters on the dojo, starting roster.

The reason i can say this is because when he brought up online he said, "the problem of what to do with hidden characters arises..." WOULD HE REALLY CONSIDER IT A PROBLEM IF HE HIMSELF WAS TELLING YOU THE HIDDEN CHARACTERS?!!!!?!?! No, he wouldn't, lack of character update, maybe it is because the rest of the characters are hidden?! thats what i personally believe, if we see no more characters it could be true...

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Japan have a different calander, and a different new year, I'm pretty sure they have new year at a different time then USA, i know it is in china, but i thought it was like that in japan too.

once it comes out in japan, we basically have it, because no more delays (which it seems already), all the info we want, only 2 more weeks which will fly by.
